Sancho Lyttle's double-double lands her Player of the Week award among Spaniards playing currently abroad - Nov 14, 2012

We bring you last week's top performances from Spaniards who are playing abroad and who all have had prior experience of national team duties at youth or senior level.


Sancho Lyttle
Sancho Lyttle
   #1. This week's number one is an international center Sancho Lyttle (192-83, college: Houston, currently plays in Turkey). She was the major contributor in Galatasaray's victory against the league outsider Edremit (0-4) crushing them 100-42 in the Turkish TKBL in Sunday night's game. Lyttle had a double-double by scoring 17 points and getting 11 rebounds. She also added and 6 steals in 26 minutes on the court. Galatasaray M.P. Istanbul (5-0) is placed first in the TKBL. So far her team won all five games in the Regular Season. But this is still an early stage of the season and everything may happen. It's Lyttle's first year with the team. Lyttle is currently first on the list of most steals with 3.3spg. She also averaged so far 12.3ppg, 6.8rpg, 1.8apg, 2FGP: 63.6%(21-33) and FT: 87.5% in the four games she played so far. Lyttle has a dual citizenship: Vincentian and Spanish. Ex-EBE Promociones P.D.V. Santa Eulalia player is currently a member of the Spanish senior national team.

Silvia Dominguez

   #2. Second place goes to an international point guard Silvia Dominguez (167-87, currently plays in Russia). Dominguez contributed to an easy victory against the eighth-ranked Spartak Noginsk (1-3) crushing them 91-45 in the Russian PBL on Sunday night. She recorded 10 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists in 25 minutes. UMMC Ekaterinburg (4-0) is placed second in the PBL. So far her team won all four games in the Regular Season. But the season is still in it's first stage and everything can happen. It's Dominguez's first year with the team. Dominguez belongs to league's best passers and is ranked #2 with 4.5apg. This year her other stats are: 8.5ppg, 4.0rpg in the four games. Dominguez played for the Spanish national team in 2011.

   #3. The Spanish player who performed third best last week abroad was an international guard Cristina Ouvina (174-90, currently plays in Euroleague), who plays in Poland. She could not help Wisla Can-Pak (0-3) in their last game. Despite Ouvina's good performance the seventh-placed Wisla Can-Pak was edged 77-74 on the road by the higher-ranked (#5) IMOS Brno in the group A of Euroleague. She was the second best scorer with 10 points. Ouvina also added 8 boards, passed 4 assists and added 4 steals in 35 minutes. So far Wisla Can-Pak lost all three games in the Regular Season. But there are still lots of games to play and it's a long way to go. Ouvina is ranked seventh on the list of the best passers in the league and also on the list of most steals (first place). This year her overall stats are: 8.0ppg, 5.7rpg, 5.3apg, 4.0spg, 2FGP: 52.4% in the three games. Ouvina is also a member of the Spanish senior national team.

   #4. An experienced guard Laia Palau (176-79, currently plays in Euroleague) was not able to help CCC Polkowice (1-3) in their game against Galatasaray (4-0) in the Euroleague. She scored 5 points, had 8 rebounds and dished 8 assists. CCC Polkowice (#5) was edged 50-48 at home by the leading Galatasaray in the group C of Euroleague. Palau is currently first on the list of best passers. This season she averages: 6.5ppg, 6.3rpg and 7.3apg. Palau is also Spanish national team player.

Amaya Valdemoro

   #5. International forward Amaya Valdemoro (183-76, agency: Josep and Nicolas, currently plays in Turkey) led Tarsus Bld to a victory over the closely-ranked Mersin (1-3) 80-73 in a derby game in the Turkish TKBL last Sunday. Valdemoro was MVP of the game. She recorded 20 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists. Tarsus Belediyesi (2-2) is placed eighth in the TKBL. It's Valdemoro's first season with the team. Valdemoro is ranked sixth on the list of the top scorers in the league and also on the list of most steals (fourth place). She has individually a very good season with high stats. Valdemoro averages: 17.3ppg, 3.3rpg, 1.7apg and 2.7spg. She plays currently for the Spanish national team.

   #6. Point guard Nuria Martinez (175-84, currently plays in Turkey) contributed to an easy victory against one of league's weakest teams Besiktas (0-4) crushing them 90-70 in the Turkish TKBL on Saturday night. Martinez recorded 8 points, 3 assists and 3 steals in 26 minutes. Pankup TED Kayseri Kolejspor (4-0) is placed second in the TKBL. So far her team won all four games in the Regular Season. This year Martinez's total stats are: 8.5ppg, 2.8rpg, 2.8apg and 1.8spg in the four games. She is a former international player as she played for the Spanish senior team two years ago.

   #7. International guard Elisa Aguilar (172-76, also represented by Josep and Nicolas, college: G.Washington, currently plays in Russia) was not able to secure a victory for Spartak Vidnoye (2-2) in their game against Nadezhda Orenburg (3-1) in the Russian PBL. Aguilar recorded 6 points and grabbed 4 rebounds. Spartak Vidnoye was defeated 87-75 in Orenburg by the higher-ranked Nadezhda (#4). Aguilar has averaged so far 7.8ppg, 2.0rpg, 1.3apg and 1.5spg. She is also Spanish national team player.

   #8. Guard Gabriela Ocete (170-88, currently plays in France) contributed to an easy victory against one of league's weakest teams Arras (2-6) crushing them 68-47 in the French LFB on Saturday night. She scored 7 points. Tarbes Gespe Bigorre (2-6) is placed tenth in the LFB. They ended the series of three consecutive loses. Ocete has averaged so far 6.6ppg, 1.5rpg, 2.3apg and 1.6spg. She used to play for the Spanish U20 national team back in 2008.

   #9. International forward Tamara Abalde (190-89, another player represented by Josep and Nicolas, currently plays in Eurocup) couldn't help Basket Landes (1-2) in their game against VS Praha (1-3) in the Eurocup. Abalde scored 8 points in 19 minutes. Basket Landes (#3) was edged 71-69 in Praha by the lower-ranked (#4) VS Praha in the group G of Eurocup. There are only three games left until the end of the Eurocup Regular Season. So now every game will be critical. Abalde has averaged so far 5.0ppg and 3.3rpg in the three games. She is also in the roster of the Spanish national team.

   #10. Forward Anna Montanana (186-80, college: G.Washington, currently plays in Turkey) couldn't help Istanbul Universitesi (2-2) in their game against Fenerbahce (4-0) in the Turkish TKBL. Montanana recorded only 4 points, 4 rebounds and 5 assists. Istanbul Universitesi was badly defeated 84-66 in a derby game by the leading Fenerbahce. Montanana has averaged so far 8.3ppg, 5.0rpg and 2.5apg. She is an international player who is currently on the senior Spanish National Team roster.

   #11. Former U20 international center Celia Menendez (188-90, currently plays in Belgium) managed to help Spirou Monceau Charleroi in a 3-point victoryagainst the closely-ranked Castors Braine 53-50 in the Belgian Division I on Sunday night. Menendez recorded only 4 points and grabbed 6 rebounds in 22 minutes. Menendez has relatively good stats this year: 10.3ppg, 5.5rpg and 1.2spg in the six games. She used to play for the Spanish U20 national team two years ago.


The list of other players, who all have Spanish passport but never been selected to any of Spanish national teams:

   #1. Maya Moore (183-SG-89, college: Connecticut, currently plays in China) led Shanxi to a victory over the fifth-ranked Qujing Yunnan (3-3) 93-88 in the Chinese WCBA last Saturday. She was MVP of the game. Moore recorded a double-double by scoring 60 points and getting 13 rebounds. She also added 6 blocks and 5 steals; quite an impressive performance considering it's only Moore's second season in pro basketball. Shanxi Xing Rui Flame (4-2) is placed first in the WCBA. It was her team's fifth consecutive victory in a row. But the season just started, so everything may happen. Moore has individually a very good year with high stats. She averages: 48.5ppg, 15.0rpg, 3.5apg, 4.0bpg and 4.5spg.

   #2. Laura Garcia (176-G-81, currently plays in Eurocup) contributed to an easy victory against the third-ranked Young Cats (1-2) crushing them 86-42 in the Eurocup in Thursday night's game. She recorded a double-double by scoring 12 points and getting 13 rebounds. Garcia also added 8 assists. Union Saint-Amand Porte du Hainaut (3-0) is placed first in group B. So far her team won all three games in the Regular Season. There are only three games left until the end of the Eurocup Regular Season. So now every game will be critical. Garcia has relatively good stats this season: 10.7ppg, 5.7rpg and 3.3apg.

   #3. Lorena Infantes (171-PG-81, agency: Regeneracom Sports, currently plays in Italy) contributed to an easy victory against one of league's weakest teams CA Romagna (1-4) 64-46 in the Italian A1 in Sunday night's game. She scored 12 points and grabbed 4 rebounds in 35 minutes. Ceprini Costruzioni Orvieto (3-1) is placed third in the A1. Infantes is ranked third on the list of the best passers in the league with 3.0apg. She also averaged so far 11.0ppg, 4.0rpg and 2.3spg in the four games she played so far.

   #4. Helena Boada (174-G-87, also represented by Regeneracom Sports, currently plays in Slovenia), who plays in the Slovenian SKL could not help Domzale (0-4) in their last game. Despite Boada's very good performance Domzale was badly defeated 88-68 at home by the higher-ranked (#4) Ilrija. She was the top scorer with 31 points. Boada also added 7 boards, passed 8 assists and added 3 steals in 31 minutes. So far Domzale lost all four games in the Regular Season. Boada has very impressive stats this year: 22.3ppg, 6.0rpg, 3.3apg and 2.3spg in the three games.

   #5. Experienced Valentina Aragonese (173-F-79, agency: Josep and Nicolas, currently plays in Italy) was not able to help Ancona (3-2) in their game against Napoli S.Dike (5-2) in the Italian A2 (12th division). Aragonese recorded 8 points and had 3 steals. Ancona (#4) was defeated 63-57 on their home court in Ancona by the lower-ranked Napoli S.Dike (#4) in the South group. Aragonese has averaged so far 8.9ppg, 2.7rpg, 1.3apg and 1.6spg. She has a dual citizenship: Chilean and Spanish.

Quesos el Pastor Zamarat (LFB) signed 26-year old Serbian forward Jelena Jovanovic (184-90). She played last season at Buducnost in Montenegrin 1A ZCKL. In two MZRKL games she had 3.0ppg, 2.5rpg, 1.0apg and 1.0spg. Jovanovic also played that season for Neftochimic in Bulgarian NBL where in 14 games she recorded 13.9ppg, 6.3rpg, 2.6apg and 1.5spg. Araski and Gernika will clash at the Torneo Javi Durango Final. They claimed victories in respective semifinal games on Friday. Araski prevailed against Gipuzkoa 71:58. Margaret Roundtree (183-PF-88, college: Gardner-Webb) delivered 22 points to pace the winners. Gipuzkoa enjoyed a 35:33 halftime lead. Olimpico 64 Colegio Santa Gema adds Orejon to their roster - 1 day ago

Olimpico 64 Colegio Santa Gema (LF2) added to their roster 32-year old swingman Natalia Orejon (172-84) from Fundal Alcobendas. Orejon has played there for the last nine years. But in 28 LF2 games she recorded just 1.9ppg, 1.8rpg and 1.3apg last season. She helped them to win the regular season and make it to the final. Orejon is a very experienced player.
