The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Real Canoe as it allowed them to take a leadership position in Group B. Real Canoe smashed 9th ranked Las Rozas in Madrid 78-54. The hosts trailed by 3 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 2-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 78-54. Real Canoe dominated on the defensive end, holding Las Rozas to just 6 points in third quarter. They outrebounded Las Rozas 41-26 including a 33-22 advantage in defensive rebounds. Forward Sheila Mangada (183-F-85) orchestrated the victory by scoring 14 points and 8 rebounds. Center Monica Garrido (185-82, agency: Josep and Nicolas) contributed with 10 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Carlota Egusquiza answered with 7 points and 7 rebounds for Las Rozas. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. As mentioned above they are at the top of the standings, which they share with 3 other teams. Las Rozas lost third consecutive game. They keep the ninth place with four games lost. They share the position with Tenerife and Gernika. Las Rozas will play next round against Tenerife trying to get back on the winning streak. Real Canoe will try to continue on its current victory against eleventh ranked Gernika on the road.
Undefeated Maquinaria Ensino (3-1) recorded its first loss in Vilagarcia Arousa. Visitors were defeated by leader Cortegada (4-0) 64-55. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Maquinaria Ensino. Guard Maria Ylenia Manzanares (175-83) stepped up and scored 14 points, 8 rebounds, 9 assists and 4 steals for the winners and Montserrat Gilabert chipped in 19 points. Cortegada's coach Jose Vazquez used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The former international forward Mireia Navarrete (184-80) responded with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 11 rebounds. Cortegada have a solid series of four victories in a row. They maintain second place in Group A with 4-0 record having just one point less than leader Real Canoe. Maquinaria Ensino at the other side keeps the third position with one game lost. Cortegada will play against ADBA (#8) in Aviles in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Maquinaria Ensino will play at home against Real Celta Vigo (#10) and hopes to get back on the winning track.
A very close game took place in Logrono between Orion-GDKO and Las Gaunas. Fourth ranked Orion-GDKO (4-1) got a very close victory on the road over 7th ranked Las Gaunas (2-3). Orion-GDKO managed to escape with a 1-point win 57-56 on Saturday evening. Margaret Roundtree nailed 17 points and 8 rebounds for the winning side. Licet Castillo came up with 18 points and 7 rebounds for Las Gaunas in the defeat. Orion-GDKO have a solid series of three victories in a row. They keep a position of Group B leader, which they share with 3 other teams. Loser Las Gaunas dropped to the eighth place with three games lost. Orion-GDKO will meet at home ASEFA Estudiantes (#5) in the next round. Las Gaunas will play against Leganes and hope to secure a win.
LF2 top team - Universitario de Ferrol (5-0) managed to deliver another win. This time they beat tenth ranked Real Celta Vigo (1-4) 62-48. The best player for the winners was Tajay Ashmeade who scored 9 points and 14 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Undefeated Universitario de Ferrol have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They maintain first place in Group A with 5-0 record. Real Celta Vigo lost fourth consecutive game. They dropped to the ninth position with four games lost. Universitario de Ferrol's next round opponent will be Oviedo (#5). Real Celta Vigo will play against Maquinaria Ensino (#3) in Lugo.
LF2 top team - Pais Vasco (4-1) had no problems winning another game on Saturday. This time they crushed tenth ranked Tenerife (1-4) 73-48. Stephanie Madden orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 24 points and 14 rebounds. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Pais Vasco. They maintain first place in Group B with 4-1 record, which they share with 3 other teams. Loser Tenerife dropped to the ninth position with four games lost. Pais Vasco will face Casablanca (#3) in Zaragoza in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Tenerife will play on the road against Las Rozas (#9) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

There were no big surprises in other games of round 5:
In Group A Valladolid beat Arxil Pontev. on the road 48-35. Oviedo destroyed Ourense P. on its own court 81-60. ADBA unfortunately lost to Al-Qazeres in a road game 63-79.
In Group B Casablanca rolled over Leganes at home 78-56. Alcobendas was defeated by Asefa Estud. on the opponent's court 62-54. Segle XXI beat Gernika in a home game 62-56.


Group A
Cortegada - Ensino 64-55

Very expected game when 9th ranked Pabellon Ourense (1-4) was smashed on the road by fifth ranked Oviedo (3-2) 81-60 on Saturday. The game without a history. Oviedo led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. Lara Fernandez (-87) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 15 points, 10 rebounds and 8 assists. Carolina Hernando (-85) contributed with 13 points and 6 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) for the winners. Swingman Maria Bolonio (180-85) answered with 25 points and 6 rebounds and power forward Alba Vargas (184-88) added 11 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Pabellon Ourense. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Oviedo moved-up to fourth place in Group A, which they share with Valladolid. Loser Pabellon Ourense keeps the ninth position with four games lost. Oviedo will face league's leader Universitario de Ferrol on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Not a big story in a game when bottom-ranked Leganes (0-5) was outscored by fourth ranked Casablanca (4-1) in Zaragoza 78-56 on Sunday. The game without a history. Casablanca led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They made 18-of-22 free shots (81.8 percent) during the game. Casablanca forced 20 Leganes turnovers and outrebounded them 36-24 including a 28-15 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a great shooting night for Casablanca especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 57.1 percentage. Power forward Isabel Perez (188-90) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 11 points and 11 rebounds. Roundtree is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Cuban guard Licet Castillo (175-73) came up with 18 points and 7 rebounds and guard Naiara Galilea (166-84) added 14 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists respectively for Las Gaunas in the defeat. There was a small surprise when eighth ranked ASEFA Estudiantes (3-2) defeated 5th ranked Fundal Alcobendas (3-2) in Madrid 62-54 on Saturday. ASEFA Estudiantes moved-up to fifth place in Group B, which they share with Alcobendas and Segle XXI. ASEFA Estudiantes will face higher ranked Orion-GDKO (#4) in Galdakao in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Fundal Alcobendas will play at home against Segle XXI in Barcelona and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Segle XXI - Gernika 62-56

There was no surprise when 11th ranked Gernika (1-4) lost to seventh ranked Segle XXI (3-2) in Barcelona 56-62 on Saturday. However just six-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Gernika was tied after three quarters but could not keep up in the last quarter eventually losing the game. They outrebounded Gernika 43-29 including 16 on the offensive glass.
