Here is the weekly review of the top performing Spanish players, who play currently abroad.


Marc Gasol

   #1. This week's number one is an international center Marc Gasol (216-85, agency: Interperformances, currently plays in NBA). He led Memphis Grizzlies to a victory over the New York Knicks (8-1) 105-95 in the NBA in Friday night's game. Gasol was MVP of the game. He scored 24 points and grabbed 7 rebounds in 38 minutes on the court. The Memphis Grizzlies have quite an impressive 8-2 record this season. It was his team's ninth consecutive victory in a row. But this is still an early stage of the season and everything may happen. It's Gasol's fifth year with the team. Gasol has individually a very good season with high stats. He averages: 15.1ppg, 7.2rpg, 4.6apg, 1.3bpg and FT: 89.5% in the 10 games he played so far. Gasol is currently a member of the Spanish senior national team.

   #2. Second place goes to an international power forward Pau Gasol (213-80, currently plays in NBA). Gasol contributed to a Los Angeles Lakers' victory against the Brooklyn Nets (6-3) 95-90 in the NBA on Tuesday night. He had a double-double by scoring 17 points and getting 11 rebounds. Gasol also added 7 assists in 39 minutes. The Los Angeles Lakers have 6-5 record this season. It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row. But the season is still in it's first stage and everything can happen. Gasol is one of the most experienced players in a team as it's his fifth year in Lakers' roster. He has very impressive stats this season: 14.5ppg, 9.5rpg, 3.5apg, 1.4bpg, 2FGP: 44.8% and FT: 80.6% in the 11 games. Gasol is in the roster of the Spanish senior national team.

   #3. The Spanish player who performed third best last week abroad was an international power forward Serge Ibaka (208-89, currently plays in NBA), who plays in the NBA. He could not help the Oklahoma City Thunder (8-3) in their last game on Wednesday. Despite Ibaka's very good performance the Oklahoma City Thunder was defeated 107-97 on the road by the Memphis Grizzlies. He was the second best scorer with 17 points. Ibaka also added 8 rebounds and 4 blocks. But there are still lots of games to play and it's a long way to go. This season Ibaka has very high stats. He averages: 14.6ppg, 6.6rpg, 3.5bpg, 2FGP: 59.6%(65-109), 3FGP: 12.5% and FT: 90.3%(28-31). Ibaka has a dual citizenship: Congolese and Spanish. Ex-C.B. L'Hospitalet player is also a member of the Spanish senior national team.

   #4. Point guard Jose Manuel Calderon (192-81, currently plays in NBA) was the major contributor in a 2-point Toronto Raptors' victory against the Indiana Pacers (5-7) 74-72 in the NBA on Tuesday night. Calderon recorded a triple-double by scoring 13 points, grabbing 10 rebounds and passing 10 assists. The Toronto Raptors have not so impressive 3-8 record this season. Calderon has been at the team for eight years. He is currently fifth on the list of best passers. This season Calderon has very high stats. He averages: 11.1ppg, 2.4rpg and 8.5apg. Calderon is also Spanish national team player.

Former international center Albert Miralles (208-82, also represented by Interperformances, currently plays in Germany) managed to help ALBA Berlin to win against the 15th-ranked Deutsche Bank Skyliners (3-6) crushing them 91-65 in the German BBL on Sunday night. He scored 5 points and grabbed 5 rebounds. ALBA Berlin (5-2) is placed sixth in the BBL. It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row. Miralles' overall stats this season are: 8.0ppg and 4.1rpg. He used to play for the Spanish national team seven years ago.

   #6. Guard Daniel Munoz (183-87, currently plays college basketball in the States), who plays in the NCAA was not able to help the American in their last game. Despite Munoz's very good performance the American lost 53-67 at home to the University of San Francisco. He scored 16 points and added 4 assists in 40 minutes. Munoz plays fourth season for the team. This year Munoz's overall stats are: 8.0ppg and 4.1rpg in the seven games. He is a former U17 international player as he played for the Spanish team nine years ago.

   #7. Former U20 international guard Francisco Robles (195-81, currently plays in United Kingdom), who plays in the British EBL D1 (second division) was not able to secure a victory for one of league's weakest teams Bristol Acadamy Flyers (4-1) in their last game. Despite Robles' good performance Bristol Acadamy Flyers lost 74-81 in Reading to the second-ranked Rockets. He scored 13 points and grabbed 4 rebounds in 23 minutes. They ended the series of four consecutive victories. Robles has relatively good stats this year: 11.0ppg, 2.5rpg and 1.5apg in the two games. He used to play for the Spanish U20 national team twelve years ago.

   #8. Point guard Salvador Camps (178-79, currently plays in Ireland) couldn't help Moycullen (2-5) in their game against UCC Demons (8-0) in the Irish Superleague. Camps scored 7 points and added 5 passes. Moycullen was crushed 96-66 in Cork by the leading UCC Demons. Camps' total stats this season are: 9.0ppg, 2.8rpg, 6.8apg and 2.3spg. He used to play for the Spanish national team back in 2001.


The list of other players, who all have Spanish passport but never been selected to any of Spanish national teams:

   #1. Luis Scola (206-F/C-80, currently plays in NBA), who plays in the NBA could not help the Phoenix Suns (4-7) in their last game on Wednesday. Despite his very good performance the Phoenix Suns were defeated in an overtime 112-106 at home by the Chicago Bulls. Scola recorded a double-double by scoring 24 points and getting 14 rebounds. But the season just started, so everything may happen. It's Scola's first year with the team. He has individually a very good season with high stats. Scola averages: 14.5ppg, 8.1rpg, 1.8apg and 1.1spg. He has a dual citizenship: Argentinian and Spanish.

   #2. Tiago Splitter (211-C/F-85, agency: Interperformances, currently plays in NBA) contributed to a 2-point San Antonio Spurs' victory against the Los Angeles Lakers (6-5) 84-82 in the NBA last Tuesday. He scored 9 points and grabbed 9 rebounds in 29 minutes. The San Antonio Spurs have a solid 8-3 record this season. This year Splitter's overall stats are: 6.7ppg and 3.5rpg in the 11 games he played so far. He is another player who holds two passports: Brazilian and Spanish.

   #3. Gustavo Barrera (194-G-85, currently plays in Uruguay), who plays in the Uruguayan LUB was not able to help Hebraica (13-6) in their last game. Despite his very good performance the fifth-placed Hebraica lost 85-93 in a derby game to the lower-ranked (#8) Montevideo BC in the Capital group. Barrera had a double-double by scoring 20 points and making 10 passes in 38 minutes. Barrera is currently first on the league's list of best passers and also on the list of most steals (first place). He has very reliable stats this year: 11.9ppg, 4.2rpg, 7.2apg and 2.1spg in the 18 games. Barrera has both Spanish and Uruguayan nationalities.

   #4. Arnette Hallman (199-F-88, currently plays in Portugal) led Academica to a victory over the league outsider Alges (0-4) 78-61 in the Portuguese LPB last Saturday. He was the best player in that game. Hallman recorded a double-double by scoring 22 points and getting 16 rebounds. He also added 3 assists and 3 steals. Associacao Academica de Coimbra (3-1) is placed fourth in the LPB. Hallman is currently ninth on the list of top scorers and also on the list of best rebounders (third place). This season he has very high stats. Hallman averages: 15.5ppg, 12.8rpg, 2.8apg and 1.8spg. He is a naturalized American. Hallman used to play for Estudiantes de Lugo in Spanish league.

   #5. Esteban Batista (208-C/F-83, agency: Duran International, currently plays in Turkey) managed to help Anadolu Efes Istanbul in a victory against the tenth-ranked Turk Telekom (2-4) crushing them 96-57 in the Turkish TBL on Monday night. He scored 5 points and grabbed 5 rebounds in 11 minutes. Anadolu Efes Istanbul (5-1) is placed second in the TBL. It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row. It's Batista's first season with the team. This year Batista's overall stats are: 3.3ppg and 3.7rpg in the three games. He also holds two passports: Uruguayan and Spanish.

   #6. Sergi Coll (204-F/C-82, currently plays in Portugal) contributed to an easy victory against the ninth-ranked Sampaense 85-68 in the Portuguese LPB in Saturday night's game. Coll scored 17 points and grabbed 7 rebounds. He has relatively good stats this season: 12.2ppg, 5.6rpg, 1.8apg and 1.4spg.

   #7. Omar Quintero (183-PG-81, college: S.Nazarene, currently plays in Mexico), who plays in the Mexican LNBP (second division) was not able to secure a victory for Huracanes (11-11) in their last game. Despite Quintero's very good performance Huracanes lost 88-92 on the road to the higher-ranked (#7) Fuerza Regia. He was the second best scorer with 17 points. Quintero also added 4 rebounds and dished 4 assists in 35 minutes. Quintero belongs to league's best passers and is ranked #6 with 4.6apg. This year he also averages: 14.9ppg and 3.7rpg in the 19 games. Quintero holds both Spanish and Mexican passports.

   #8. Lluis Jacas (198-F-90, currently plays in Sweden), who plays in the Swedish Basketettan (second division) couldn't help Eskilstuna (4-5) in their last game on Sunday. Despite Jacas' very good performance the seventh-placed Eskilstuna was defeated 67-58 in Malmo by the lower-ranked Malbas (#8) in the South group. He was the second best scorer with 20 points. Jacas also added 6 boards, dished 4 assists and stole 3 balls. This season he has very high stats. Jacas averages: 17.3ppg, 6.7rpg, 2.1apg and 1.8spg.

   #9. Experienced Rodrigo Riera (184-G-72, currently plays in Uruguay) couldn't help Cordon in their game against Union Atletica in the Uruguayan LUB. He scored 8 points, had 4 rebounds and dished 7 assists (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line) in 40 minutes. His team lost 76-90. This year Riera's total stats are: 6.9ppg, 2.5rpg and 2.3apg in the 15 games. He has Spanish and Uruguayan nationalities.

   #10. Carlos Cherry (184-PG-79, agency: Global Sports Plaza, currently plays in France) couldn't help Quimper UJAP in their game against Cognac in the French NM1 (third division). Cherry scored 8 points, had 4 boards, passed 7 assists and added 3 steals. His team was defeated 79-64. He has relatively good stats this season: 10.6ppg, 3.4rpg, 4.7apg and 1.4spg.

Movistar Estudiantes (Liga Endesa) signed experienced 34-year old American forward Dylan Page (204-104kg-82, college: Wisc.-Milwaukee). He played this summer at Capitanes de Arecibo in Puerto Rican BSN league, but left. In three Liga Americas games he had 7.0ppg, 3.0rpg and 1.0apg. Carrefour El Bulevar de Avila (LEB Silver) agreed terms with 23-year old point guard Carlos Noguerol (186-93) from Marin Ence PeixeGalego. In 9 LEB Silver games he had 5.7ppg, 2.8rpg, 2.0apg and 1.3spg last season. Noguerol also played that season for C.B. Chantada Galicia Vento where in 10 LEB Silver games he recorded 14.2ppg, 5.4rpg, 3.2apg and 2.9spg. He won LEB Silver in 2016. Gipuzkoa keeps Oroz for another season - 6 hours ago

RETAbet Gipuzkoa BC San Sebastian (LEB Gold) re-signed 20-year old guard Xavi Oroz (192-96). He played there last season. Liga Endesa was a little too high level for him, where in 6 games he averaged just 1.0ppg. LEB Gold will be definitely a better match and he can see more playing time. Oroz represented Spain at the European Championships U20 in Helsinki (Finland) this year. His team won Gold and his stats at that event were 6 games: 0.7ppg, 1.8rpg.
