McDermott
The most surprising game was the first loss of undefeated River Andorra (7-1) at the home court on Friday night. Hosts were defeated by fifth ranked Palencia Baloncesto (6-2) 87-81. It ended at the same time the seven-game winning streak of River Andorra. It may be a crucial game in the contest for the top position in the league. The guests trailed by 3 points at the halftime before their 18-7 charge in the third quarter, which allowed them to win the game. Palencia Baloncesto dominated on the defensive end, holding River Andorra to just 7 points in third quarter. Palencia Baloncesto made 18-of-23 free shots (78.3 percent) during the game. 24 personal fouls committed by River Andorra helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Worth to mention a great performance of American-Jamaican forward Geoff McDermott (203-F-87, agency: Interperformances, college: Providence) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 15 points and 11 rebounds and power forward Urko Otegui (203-81) who added 20 points and 6 rebounds during the contest. point guard Daniel Perez (188-90) responded with 19 points, 7 rebounds and 9 assists. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Palencia Baloncesto moved-up to second place, which they share with A.Ford Burgos and Lucentum. Newly promoted River Andorra still keeps top position with one game lost. Palencia Baloncesto is looking forward to face Ford Burgos (#4) at home in the next round. River Andorra will play against Caceres Basket and is hoping to win this game.
Very important is a road loss of third ranked Leyma Basquet (5-3) against twelfth ranked Lobe Huesca (2-6) on Friday night. Visiting Leyma Basquet was defeated by Lobe Huesca in Huesca 81-65. The winners were led by point guard Adrian Fuentes (183-87) who scored that evening 25 points and 4 assists (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field) and Charles Abouo supported him with 14 points and 6 rebounds. Even 16 points and 5 rebounds (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line) by forward Asier Zengotitabengoa (200-88) did not help to save the game for Leyma Basquet. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Lobe Huesca moved-up to eleventh place, which they share with Forca Lleida. Leyma Basquet lost third consecutive game. Newly promoted team dropped to the fifth position with three games lost. They share it with Breogan and FCB Regal II. Lobe Huesca will play against higher ranked Planasa NV (#9) in Pamplona in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Leyma Basquet will play at home against Leche Rio Breogan (#6) in Lugo and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Fourteenth-ranked Ourense (1-7) gave a tough game to sixth ranked Leche Rio Breogan (5-3) in Lugo on Saturday. Leche Rio Breogan managed to secure only one-point victory 78-77. However their fans expected much easier game. The best player for the winners was Michel Diouf who had a double-double by scoring 16 points and 10 rebounds (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field). Nick Barbour produced 20 points and 6 steals for the guests. Ourense's coach Rafael Sanz rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Leche Rio Breogan moved-up to fifth place, which they share with FCB Regal II and Coruna. Newly promoted Ourense stay at the bottom position with seven games lost. They share it with Melilla. Leche Rio Breogan will meet Leyma Basquet (#5) in the next round. Ourense will play against the league's second-placed Meridiano Alicante (#2).
Third ranked Ford Burgos (6-2) crushed at home 8th ranked Planasa NV (3-5) by 30 points 91-61, which is the biggest margin this round. Lucas Sikma orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 13 points and 12 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Ford Burgos have a solid four-game winning streak. Ford Burgos moved-up to second place, which they share with Lucentum and Palencia. Planasa NV lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the ninth position with five games lost. Ford Burgos' next round opponent will be Palencia Baloncesto (#3) on the road, which may be the game of the day. Planasa NV will play against Lobe Huesca (#12).

There were no shocking results in the other games in round 8: Melilla lost to Lucentum on the opponent's court 64-77. FCB Regal II managed to outperform Caceres in a home game 92-83. Forca Lleida was rolled over Clavijo on the road 95-73.

Lucentum - Melilla 77-64

Very expected game when 13th ranked Melilla Baloncesto (1-7) was defeated on the road by fourth ranked Meridiano Alicante (6-2) 77-64. The hosts were tied after three quarters but managed to speed up in last quarter eventually winning the game. The former international center Jesus Fernandez (204-75) orchestrated the victory by scoring 20 points and 5 rebounds. point guard Albert Sabat (187-85) contributed with 12 points and 9 assists for the winners. Four Meridiano Alicante players scored in double figures. The former international forward Francisco Sanchez (201-79) replied with 16 points and 5 rebounds and German power forward Kiril Wachsmann (203-83, college: Iona, agency: Edge Sports) added 12 points and 7 rebounds in the effort for Melilla Baloncesto. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Meridiano Alicante have an impressive five-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place, which they share with A.Ford Burgos and Palencia. Melilla Baloncesto lost seventh consecutive game. Melilla Baloncesto at the other side keeps the thirteenth position with seven games lost. Meridiano Alicante's next round opponent will be bottom-ranked Ourense (#14) on the road which should be an easy win for them. Melilla Baloncesto will play against Lleida Basquet and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
