LEB Gold Round 9 of Regular Season - Dec 2, 2012

The biggest surprise of round 9 in LEB Gold was guest Leche Rio Breogan's (6-3) road victory over Leyma Basquet (#6) 71-69 on Saturday evening. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Leyma Basquet won fourth quarter 26-23. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Leche Rio Breogan made 16-of-20 free shots (80.0 percent) during the game. The best player for the winners was American guard Anthony Winchester (193-83, college: W.Kentucky) who scored 15 points. Center Manuel Gomez (203-78) chipped in 15 points. At the other side the best for losing team was Ivorian-American forward Jonathan Kale (203-85, college: Providence) who recorded a double-double by scoring 20 points and 11 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Leche Rio Breogan have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to third place, which they share with Lucentum and Palencia. Leyma Basquet lost fourth consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the sixth position with four games lost. They share it with FCB Regal II and Clavijo. Leche Rio Breogan is looking forward to face Planasa NV (#10) in Pamplona in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Leyma Basquet will play on the road against Meridiano Alicante (#3) and is hoping to prove to their supporters that they can break losing series.
Another exciting game was between fourth ranked Ford Burgos and 3rd placed Palencia Baloncesto where Ford Burgos (7-2) crushed Palencia Baloncesto (6-3) on the road with 31-point difference 93-62. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Palencia Baloncesto. It was a good game for power forward Josep Ortega (201-84) who led his team to a victory with 13 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals. Lucas Sikma contributed with 9 points and 14 rebounds for the winners. Power forward Urko Otegui (203-81) answered with 13 points and 5 rebounds for Palencia Baloncesto. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Ford Burgos have an impressive series of five victories in a row. Ford Burgos moved-up to second place. Palencia Baloncesto at the other side keeps the third position with three games lost. They share it with Breogan and Lucentum. Ford Burgos will play against Caceres Basket (#11) at home in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Palencia Baloncesto will play against Lobe Huesca (#12) and hopes to get back on the winning track.
Tenth-ranked Caceres Basket (3-6) made lots of trouble for first ranked River Andorra (8-1) on Friday. The visitors from Andorra managed to secure only two-point victory 71-69. However their fans expected much easier game. Marc Blanch stepped up and scored 18 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. The best for the losing side was Josh Duinker with a double-double by scoring 10 points and 10 rebounds. Caceres Basket's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Newly promoted River Andorra maintains first place with 8-1 record. Loser Caceres Basket dropped to the ninth position with six games lost. They share it with 3 other teams. River Andorra will meet at home CB Clavijo (#7) in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Caceres Basket will play against the league's second-placed Ford Burgos and hope to secure a win.
Very important is a road loss of second ranked Meridiano Alicante (6-3) against fourteenth ranked Ourense (2-7) on Friday night. Visiting Meridiano Alicante was defeated by Ourense in a tough game in Ourense 72-76. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Meridiano Alicante. Mateo Kedzo nailed 21 points for the winning side. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Ourense moved-up to thirteenth place. Meridiano Alicante at the other side dropped to the third position with three games lost. Ourense's next round opponent will be bottom-ranked Melilla Baloncesto (#14) on the road. Meridiano Alicante will play against Leyma Basquet (#6) in Coruna and be promoted back to the ACB just one year after relegation.
The game in Logrono supposed to be also quite interesting. 7th ranked FCB Regal II (5-4) played at the court of eighth ranked CB Clavijo (5-4). CB Clavijo did not have too big problems and got a relatively easy victory 94-74 on Friday. The best player for the winners was Alberto Ruiz de Galarreta who scored 21 points and 6 rebounds.
