The biggest surprise of round 9 in LEB Gold was guest Leche Rio Breogan's (6-3) road victory over Leyma Basquet (#6) 71-69 on Saturday evening. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Leyma Basquet won fourth quarter 26-23. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Leche Rio Breogan made 16-of-20 free shots (80.0 percent) during the game. The best player for the winners was American guard Anthony Winchester (193-83, college: W.Kentucky) who scored 15 points. Center Manuel Gomez (203-78) chipped in 15 points. At the other side the best for losing team was Ivorian-American forward Jonathan Kale (203-85, college: Providence) who recorded a double-double by scoring 20 points and 11 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Leche Rio Breogan have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to third place, which they share with Lucentum and Palencia. Leyma Basquet lost fourth consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the sixth position with four games lost. They share it with FCB Regal II and Clavijo. Leche Rio Breogan is looking forward to face Planasa NV (#10) in Pamplona in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Leyma Basquet will play on the road against Meridiano Alicante (#3) and is hoping to prove to their supporters that they can break losing series.
Another exciting game was between fourth ranked Ford Burgos and 3rd placed Palencia Baloncesto where Ford Burgos (7-2) crushed Palencia Baloncesto (6-3) on the road with 31-point difference 93-62. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Palencia Baloncesto. It was a good game for power forward Josep Ortega (201-84) who led his team to a victory with 13 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals. Lucas Sikma contributed with 9 points and 14 rebounds for the winners. Power forward Urko Otegui (203-81) answered with 13 points and 5 rebounds for Palencia Baloncesto. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Ford Burgos have an impressive series of five victories in a row. Ford Burgos moved-up to second place. Palencia Baloncesto at the other side keeps the third position with three games lost. They share it with Breogan and Lucentum. Ford Burgos will play against Caceres Basket (#11) at home in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Palencia Baloncesto will play against Lobe Huesca (#12) and hopes to get back on the winning track.
Tenth-ranked Caceres Basket (3-6) made lots of trouble for first ranked River Andorra (8-1) on Friday. The visitors from Andorra managed to secure only two-point victory 71-69. However their fans expected much easier game. Marc Blanch stepped up and scored 18 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. The best for the losing side was Josh Duinker with a double-double by scoring 10 points and 10 rebounds. Caceres Basket's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Newly promoted River Andorra maintains first place with 8-1 record. Loser Caceres Basket dropped to the ninth position with six games lost. They share it with 3 other teams. River Andorra will meet at home CB Clavijo (#7) in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Caceres Basket will play against the league's second-placed Ford Burgos and hope to secure a win.
Very important is a road loss of second ranked Meridiano Alicante (6-3) against fourteenth ranked Ourense (2-7) on Friday night. Visiting Meridiano Alicante was defeated by Ourense in a tough game in Ourense 72-76. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Meridiano Alicante. Mateo Kedzo nailed 21 points for the winning side. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Ourense moved-up to thirteenth place. Meridiano Alicante at the other side dropped to the third position with three games lost. Ourense's next round opponent will be bottom-ranked Melilla Baloncesto (#14) on the road. Meridiano Alicante will play against Leyma Basquet (#6) in Coruna and be promoted back to the ACB just one year after relegation.

CB Clavijo will face league's leader River Andorra on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.

In the last two games of round 9 bottom-ranked Melilla was defeated by Forca Lleida in a road game 87-70. Planasa NV was beaten by Lobe Huesca at home 59-68.
The best stats of 9th round was 25 points and 11 rebounds by Dominic Calegari of Forca Lleida.


Forca Lleida - Melilla 87-70

There was no surprise when 14th ranked Melilla Baloncesto (1-8) was defeated on the road by twelfth ranked Lleida Basquet (3-6) 87-70 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Lleida Basquet. Melilla Baloncesto was better in second period 26-18. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Lleida Basquet won last quarter 32-16. Lleida Basquet looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. The best player for the winners was American-Italian power forward Dominic Calegari (208-87, college: Cal-Davis) who had a double-double by scoring 25 points and 11 rebounds. Forward Miguel Feliu (200-85) chipped in a double-double by scoring 11 points, 10 rebounds and 7 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was guard Jesus Castro (191-83) who recorded 19 points and the former international forward Francisco Sanchez (201-79) added 14 points respectively. Four Melilla Baloncesto players scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Lleida Basquet moved-up to ninth place, which they share with 3 other teams. Melilla Baloncesto lost their eighth game in a row. Loser Melilla Baloncesto stay at the bottom position with eight games lost. Lleida Basquet will face higher ranked FCB Regal II (#8) in Barcelona in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Melilla Baloncesto will play at home against Ourense (#13) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

The game in Logrono supposed to be also quite interesting. 7th ranked FCB Regal II (5-4) played at the court of eighth ranked CB Clavijo (5-4). CB Clavijo did not have too big problems and got a relatively easy victory 94-74 on Friday. The hosts trailed by 1 point after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 6-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 94-74. CB Clavijo shot the lights out from three sinking 15 long-distance shots on high 68.2 percentage. FCB Regal II was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was guard Alberto Ruiz de Galarreta (198-83) who scored 21 points and 6 rebounds. point guard Mikel Uriz (182-89) chipped in 14 points. Four CB Clavijo players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was Swedish swingman Marcus Eriksson (196-93) who recorded 19 points and power forward Ivan Garcia (207-86) added 8 points and 6 rebounds respectively. However their fans expected much easier game. The guests trailed by 3 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 5-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 71-69. River Andorra forced 21 Caceres Basket turnovers. Strangely Caceres Basket outrebounded River Andorra 42-23 including a 29-17 advantage in defensive rebounds. Forward Marc Blanch (194-82) stepped up and scored 18 points and 5 rebounds for the winners and point guard Daniel Perez (188-90) chipped in 9 points and 9 assists. The best for the losing side was Australian-Dutch power forward Josh Duinker (210-89, college: Richmond) with a double-double by scoring 10 points and 10 rebounds and Nigerian-Canadian forward Olu Ashaolu (200-88, college: Oregon) scored 11 points and 6 rebounds. There was a small surprise in Pamplona where twelfth ranked Lobe Huesca (3-6) defeated 9th ranked Planasa NV (3-6) 68-59 on Friday. Planasa NV trailed by 11 points after 3 quarters before a 14-12 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 59-68 at the end of the game. Lobe Huesca forced 19 Planasa NV turnovers and outrebounded them 39-24 including 26 on the defensive glass. The best player for the winners was Ivorian swingman Charles Abouo (195-89, college: BYU) who scored 18 points and 6 rebounds. American forward Jamar Samuels (200-89, college: Kansas St.) chipped in 9 points and 11 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was guard Inaki Narros (194-81) who recorded 17 points and point guard Inaki Sanz (190-84) added 9 points and 5 rebounds respectively. Planasa NV's coach Angel Jareno let to play ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Lobe Huesca moved-up to ninth place, which they share with 3 other teams including defeated Planasa NV. Planasa NV lost their fourth game in a row. Lobe Huesca will face higher ranked Palencia Baloncesto (#4) at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.

Very important is a road loss of second ranked Meridiano Alicante (6-3) against fourteenth ranked Ourense (2-7) on Friday night. Visiting Meridiano Alicante was defeated by Ourense in a tough game in Ourense 72-76. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Meridiano Alicante. The hosts were already 12 points ahead after 3 quarters before a 30-22 Meridiano Alicante's run in the last quarter cut the lead to 76-72 at the end of the game. Ourense forced 19 Meridiano Alicante turnovers. Croatian power forward Mateo Kedzo (206-84) nailed 21 points for the winning side and American guard Nick Barbour (190-89, college: High Point) accounted for 20 points. Four Ourense players scored in double figures. Guard Roma Bas (192-83) came up with 20 points and point guard Pedro Rivero (186-79) added 18 points respectively for Meridiano Alicante in the defeat. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Ourense moved-up to thirteenth place. Meridiano Alicante at the other side dropped to the third position with three games lost.
