ACB Round 10 of Regular Season - Dec 2, 2012

There was no lack of excitement in the last round games. The round ended with extra overtimes and favorites losing the games.

The most shocking disappointment of round 10 in the ACB was a home defeat of their biggest opponent G.Canaria 2014 (7-3) to third ranked Valencia Basket (8-2) 79-65. It ended the five-game winning streak of G.Canaria 2014. It was a key game for the second position in the league. The game was mostly controlled by Valencia Basket. G.Canaria 2014 managed to win third quarter 13-11. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. American forward Justin Doellman (206-85, college: Xavier) scored 23 points to lead the charge for the winners and guard Rodrigo San Miguel (190-85) chipped in 14 points and 4 assists during the contest. At the losing side Slovenian power forward Uros Slokar (210-83) responded with 12 points and 5 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Valencia Basket have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Gescrap BB. G.Canaria 2014 at the other side dropped to the fourth position with three games lost. They share it with Caja Laboral. Valencia Basket is looking forward to face Blancos de Rueda (#10) in Valladolid in the next round and are hoping to win another game. G.Canaria 2014 will play on the road against Lagun Aro GBC (#18) in San Sebastian and is hoping to win this game.
Bottom-ranked Baloncesto Fuenlabrada managed to get a second victory, breaking the four-game losing streak. This time they edged eleventh-ranked Blancos de Rueda in Valladolid 104-102. Dominican-American guard James Feldeine (193-88, college: Quinnipiac) notched 31 points and 4 assists to lead the effort and Joaquim Colom supported him with 15 points. Even 26 points and 6 rebounds by forward Nacho Martin (205-83) did not help to save the game for Blancos de Rueda. Blancos de Rueda's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Baloncesto Fuenlabrada (2-8) moved-up to fourteenth place, which they share with CB Canarias. Blancos de Rueda at the other side dropped to the tenth position with five games lost. They share it with FIATC Joventut and Blusens M.. Baloncesto Fuenlabrada will play against CB Canarias (#14) in Tenerife in the next round. Blancos de Rueda will play at home against Valencia Basket (#3) having rather not much hope for a victory.
ACB top team - Real Madrid (10-0) managed to deliver another win on Sunday. This time they beat fifth ranked CAI Zaragoza (6-4) 94-79. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of CAI Zaragoza. Jaycee Carroll fired 18 points (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) for the winners. Henk Norel produced a double-double by scoring 20 points and 10 rebounds for lost side. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Undefeated Real Madrid have an impressive ten-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 10-0 record. Loser CAI Zaragoza dropped to the sixth place with four games lost. They share the position with 3 other teams. Real Madrid's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Madrid to the arena Asefa Estudiantes.
Seventeenth-ranked Lagun Aro GBC (1-9) gave a tough game to sixth ranked Caja Laboral (7-3) in San Sebastian. The visitors from Vitoria managed to secure only two-point victory 71-69. However their fans expected much easier game. Worth to mention a great performance of Andres Nocioni who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 21 points and 14 rebounds. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. Caja Laboral moved-up to fourth place, which they share with G.Canaria 2014. Lagun Aro GBC lost fourth consecutive game. They dropped to the bottom position with nine games lost. Caja Laboral's next round opponent will be UCAM Murcia (#13) on the road and are hoping to win another game. Lagun Aro GBC will play against G.Canaria 2014 (#5) in Las Palmas.
Ninth ranked Unicaja Malaga (6-4) crushed at home 13th ranked UCAM Murcia (4-6) by 27 points 85-58, which is the biggest margin this round on Sunday night. Luka Zoric scored 14 points and 7 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) to lead the charge for the winners. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Unicaja Malaga moved-up to sixth place, which they share with 3 other teams. Loser UCAM Murcia keeps the thirteenth position with six games lost. Unicaja Malaga will face Blusens Monbus (#11) in Santoago de Comp in the next round where they are favorite. UCAM Murcia will play at home against Caja Laboral in Vitoria.

There were no shocking results in the other games in round 10: Cajasol lost to FCB Regal on the opponent's court 64-78. FIATC Joventut managed to outperform CB Canarias in a home game 92-81. Assignia M. was rolled over Gescrap BB on the road 83-63. Asefa Estudian. crushed Blusens M. on its own court 89-66.
The most impressive stats of the last round was 39 points (!!!) and 6 rebounds by Carl English of Asefa Estudian..
