We bring you last week's top performances from Spaniards who are playing abroad and who all have had prior experience of national team duties at youth or senior level.

   #1. This week's number one is an international power forward Serge Ibaka (208-89, currently plays in NBA). Ibaka was the major contributor in an Oklahoma City Thunder's victory against the Houston Rockets (9-8) crushing them 120-98 in the NBA last Wednesday. He scored 23 points, grabbed 9 rebounds and made 6 blocks. The Oklahoma City Thunder has a very good 15-4 record this season. It was his team's sixth consecutive victory in a row. But the season just started, so everything may happen. Ibaka has individually a very good year with high stats. He averages: 14.5ppg, 7.5rpg, 3.3bpg, 2FGP: 61.7%(113-183), 3FGP: 25.0% and FT: 87.0%. Ibaka has a dual citizenship: Congolese and Spanish. Ex-C.B. L'Hospitalet player is currently a member of the Spanish senior national team.

Marc Gasol

   #2. Second place goes to an international center Marc Gasol (216-85, agency: Interperformances, currently plays in NBA), who plays in the NBA. He could not help the Memphis Grizzlies (13-3) in their last game. Despite Gasol's very good performance the Memphis Grizzlies lost in an overtime 95-99 on the road to the San Antonio Spurs. He was the top scorer with 20 points. Gasol also added 8 rebounds and dished 3 assists in 37 minutes. But the season is still in it's first stage and everything can happen. It's Gasol's fifth year with the team. He has very impressive stats this season: 15.8ppg, 7.3rpg, 4.4apg, 1.4bpg, 2FGP: 51.4% and FT: 89.7% in the 16 games he played so far. Gasol is in the roster of the Spanish senior national team.

Jose Manuel Calderon

   #3. The Spanish player who performed third best last week abroad was an international point guard Jose Manuel Calderon (192-81, currently plays in NBA). He led Toronto Raptors to a victory against the Phoenix Suns (7-12) 101-97 in the NBA last Friday. Calderon recorded 13 points and added 9 assists in 24 minutes. The Toronto Raptors have not so impressive 4-14 record this season. Calderon is one of the most experienced players in a team as it's his eighth year in Raptors' roster. He is ranked seventh on the list of the best passers in the league with 7.3apg. This year Calderon also averages: 10.2ppg, 1.9rpg, 2FGP: 37.8%, 3FGP: 49.3%(34-69) and FT: 95.2%(20-21) in the 18 games. He is also a member of the Spanish senior national team.

   #4. Power forward Pau Gasol (213-80, currently plays in NBA), who plays in the NBA was not able to help the Los Angeles Lakers (8-10) in their last game on Tuesday. Despite Gasol's good performance the Los Angeles Lakers were edged 79-77 in Indianapolis by the Indiana Pacers. He recorded 10 points, 9 rebounds and 3 assists (made all of his six free throws). Gasol has been at the team for five years. This season Gasol has very high stats. He averages: 12.6ppg, 8.8rpg, 3.5apg and 1.2bpg. Gasol is also Spanish national team player.

Former international center Albert Miralles (208-82, also represented by Interperformances, currently plays in Germany) managed to help ALBA Berlin in a victory against the 11th-ranked Bayern Muenchen (5-6) 82-70 in the German BBL in Sunday night's game. Miralles scored only 4 points in 17 minutes. ALBA Berlin (7-2) is placed third in the BBL. It was his team's fifth consecutive victory in a row. This year Miralles' overall stats are: 6.9ppg and 3.7rpg in the nine games. He used to play for the Spanish national team seven years ago.

   #6. Point guard Miguel Ortega (188-91, currently plays in Denmark), who plays in the Danish Ligaen was not able to secure a victory for Randers (3-10) in their last game. Despite his very good performance Randers lost 94-98 on the opponent's court to the leading Svendborg. Ortega recorded 19 points and added 8 passes (made all of his five free throws) in 39 minutes. It was Randers' fourth consecutive loss in a row. It's Ortega's first season with the team. Ortega belongs to league's best passers and is ranked #2 with 6.2apg. This year his other stats are: 14.6ppg, 4.2rpg and 1.9spg in the 13 games. Ortega is a former U18 international player as he played for the Spanish team three years ago.

   #7. Former U17 international guard Daniel Munoz (183-87, currently plays college basketball in the States), who plays in the NCAA couldn't help the American in their last game on Wednesday. Despite his good performance the American was badly defeated 74-55 in Philadelphia, PA by the Saint Joseph's University. Munoz scored 10 points, grabbed 4 rebounds and dished 7 assists. Munoz plays fourth season for the team. He has relatively good stats this year: 14.6ppg, 4.2rpg and 1.9spg. Munoz used to play for the Spanish U17 national team nine years ago.

   #8. Guard Francisco Robles (195-81, currently plays in United Kingdom) couldn't help Bristol Acadamy Flyers (5-3) in their game against Tees Valley Mohawks (6-1) in the British EBL D1 (second division). Despite his good performance last Saturday He recorded 10 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Robles belongs to league's best passers and is ranked #7. His total stats this season are: 8.6ppg, 2.0rpg and 3.4apg. Robles used to play for the Spanish U20 national team back in 2000.

   #9. Former international point guard Salvador Camps (178-79, currently plays in Ireland) couldn't help Moycullen (3-6) in their game against UL Eagles (10-1) in the Irish Superleague, despite his very good performance on Saturday night. He had a double-double by scoring 14 points and making 10 passes. Camps also added 4 rebounds in 35 minutes. But Moycullen was badly defeated 88-72 in Limerick by the leading UL Eagles. Camps is currently second on the list of best passers and also on the list of most steals (first place). He has very reliable stats this year: 10.5ppg, 3.3rpg, 7.8apg and 2.8spg in the six games. Camps used to play for the Spanish national team eleven years ago.


The list of other players, who all have Spanish passport but never been selected to any of Spanish national teams:

   #1. Tiago Splitter (211-C/F-85, agency: Interperformances, currently plays in NBA), who plays in the NBA could not help the San Antonio Spurs (14-4) in their last game. Despite his very good performance the San Antonio Spurs lost 100-105 on the road to the Miami Heat. Splitter was the second best scorer with 18 points. He also added 9 rebounds in 30 minutes. But this is still an early stage of the season and everything may happen. Splitter has relatively good stats this year: 8.6ppg, 4.5rpg and 1.2apg in the 18 games he played so far. He has a dual citizenship: Brazilian and Spanish.

   #2. Luis Scola (206-F/C-80, currently plays in NBA), who plays in the NBA was not able to help the Phoenix Suns (7-12) in their last game on Tuesday. Despite his very good performance the Phoenix Suns were defeated in an overtime 108-98 in Memphis by the Grizzlies. Scola was the second best scorer with 16 points. He also added 8 rebounds. But there are still lots of games to play and it's a long way to go. Scola has individually a very good season with high stats. He averages: 12.7ppg, 6.8rpg and 1.6apg. Scola is another player who holds two passports: Argentinian and Spanish.

   #3. Caio Silveira (211-C-87, also represented by Interperformances, currently plays in Liga SudAmericana) led his Brazilian team Flamengo to a 1-point victory against the leader Penarol 79-78 in the Liga Sudamericana in Tuesday night's game. He scored 18 points in a mere 15 minutes. It was his first game for Flamengo this season. It was the game of the round between two top 2 ranked teams in group G. His team is placed second. Silveira is currently sixth on the league's list of top scorers with 18 points. He has both Spanish and Brazilian nationalities.

   #4. Sergi Coll (204-F/C-82, currently plays in Portugal) led Ovarense to a victory over the seventh-ranked Fisica (2-4) 59-48 in the Portuguese LPB last Saturday. Coll was MVP of the game. He recorded a double-double by scoring 24 points and getting 10 rebounds. Coll also added 3 assists. Ovarense Dolce Vita (6-1) is placed second in the LPB. It was his team's fifth consecutive victory in a row. Coll has relatively good stats this season: 14.1ppg, 6.4rpg, 2.0apg and 1.3spg.

   #5. Gustavo Barrera (194-G-85, currently plays in Uruguay), who plays in the Uruguayan LUB was not able to secure a victory for Hebraica (15-9) in their last game. Despite his very good performance the fifth-placed Hebraica was edged 73-71 at home by the lower-ranked (#10) Sayago in the Capital group. Barrera had a double-double by scoring 15 points and making 10 passes. He also added 4 rebounds in 37 minutes. There are only three games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be critical. Barrera is ranked first on the list of the best passers in the league and also on the list of most steals (third place). He has very reliable stats this year: 12.3ppg, 3.9rpg, 7.5apg and 2.0spg in the 23 games. Barrera also holds two passports: Spanish and Uruguayan.

   #6. Experienced Carlos Cherry (184-PG-79, agency: Global Sports Plaza, currently plays in France) was the main contributor in a Quimper UJAP's victory against the 14th-ranked Vendee Challans 94-85 in the French NM1 (third division) in Tuesday night's game. He was MVP of the game. Cherry recorded a double-double by scoring 34 points and making 11 passes. Cherry is currently fourth on the league's list of best passers. He has very reliable stats this season: 13.7ppg, 3.4rpg, 5.6apg and 1.5spg.

   #7. Arnette Hallman (199-F-88, currently plays in Portugal) was the major contributor in Academica's victory against the league outsider Lusitania 66-55 in the Portuguese LPB last Saturday. Hallman had a double-double by scoring 14 points and getting 17 rebounds. He also added and 3 steals in 40 minutes. Hallman is currently first on the league's list of best rebounders with 13.0rpg. This year he also averages: 15.3ppg, 3.0apg and 2.0spg in the six games. Hallman is a naturalized American. He used to play for Estudiantes de Lugo in Spanish league.

   #8. Omar Quintero (183-PG-81, college: S.Nazarene, currently plays in Mexico) contributed to a 1-point Huracanes' victory against one of league's weakest teams Gansos 93-92 in the Mexican LNBP (second division) on Saturday night. Quintero recorded 19 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists. Quintero is ranked sixth on the list of the best passers in the league. This season he has very high stats. Quintero averages: 15.1ppg, 3.8rpg and 4.7apg. He has Spanish and Mexican nationalities.

   #9. Jose Manuel Coego (204-C/F-78, currently plays in Portugal) contributed to a CAB Madeira's victory against the closely-ranked Vitoria SC 92-85 in the Portuguese LPB last Saturday. Coego recorded 11 points and grabbed 8 rebounds. Coego's total stats this season are: 7.8ppg and 5.0rpg.
