The game between third ranked Lan Mobel ISB (5-3) and ninth ranked Cafes Aitona (3-5) was the most important one in the last round on Sunday night. Lan Mobel ISB was defeated by Cafes Aitona in Azpeitia 56-66. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Lan Mobel ISB. The guests trailed by 3 points after three quarters before their 24-11 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Cafes Aitona forced 27 Lan Mobel ISB turnovers. It was a good game for guard Carlos Martinez (192-G-78, agency: Dynamics Global Management) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 11 rebounds. Forward Jon Aramburu (204-92, agency: Duran International) contributed with 9 points and 15 rebounds for the winners. Guard Joseba Ibargutxi (190-82) answered with 18 points for Lan Mobel ISB. Lan Mobel ISB's coach Iurgi Caminos rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Newly promoted Cafes Aitona maintains ninth place with 3-5 record. Lan Mobel ISB at the other side keeps the third position with three games lost. They share it with Oviedo CB. Cafes Aitona are looking forward to face Castello (#10) in Castellon in the next round. Lan Mobel ISB will play on the road against La Palma (#11) and is hoping to win this game.
The game in S'Arenal was also worth to mention about. 6th ranked Aurteneche M. (4-4) played at the court of eighth ranked Palma (4-5). Palma managed to secure a 7-point victory 86-79. Forward Ivan Matemalas (193-80) stepped up and scored 25 points (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line) for the winners and Robert Joseph chipped in 12 points. The best for the losing side was Bahamas guard Dynile Forbes (188-86, college: La-Monroe) with 21 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Newly promoted Palma maintains eighth place with 4-5 record. Aurteneche M. at the other side keeps the sixth position with four games lost. They share it with Avila. Palma will play against higher ranked Fontedoso Carrefour (#7) in Avila in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Aurteneche M. will play at home against Oviedo CB and hopes to get back on the winning track.
The game in Prat was also quite interesting. 6th ranked Fontedoso Carrefour (4-4) played at the court of seventh ranked Prat Juventud (5-4). Prat Juventud managed to secure a 8-point victory 69-61 on Saturday. Alejandro Barrera nailed 10 points for the winning side. Riley Luettgerodt came up with 23 points for Fontedoso Carrefour in the defeat. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Prat Juventud have a solid series of four victories in a row. They moved-up to fifth place. Fontedoso Carrefour lost third consecutive game. They keep the sixth position with four games lost. They share it with Aurteneche M.. Prat Juventud will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Fontedoso Carrefour will play against Palma (#8) in S'Arenal and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
A very interesting game took place in Castellon. It ended with only one-point home defeat of 10th ranked Castello (2-6) to third ranked CB Guadalajara (6-2) 94-93 on Saturday evening. Guest team only slightly avoided a big embarassment. The best player for the winners was Jose Balmon who had a double-double by scoring 28 points and 11 rebounds. CB Guadalajara keeps a position of league leader, which they share with Clinicas Rincon. Castello lost third consecutive game. Castello at the other side, also newcomer in the league, keeps the tenth place with six games lost. CB Guadalajara's next round opponent will be league's leader Clinicas Rincon in Malaga and it will be for sure the game of the week. Castello will play on the road against Cafes Aitona (#9) in San Sebastian and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
The game between fifth ranked Oviedo CB (5-3) and 11th ranked La Palma (1-7) in Oviedo on Saturday ended with biggest points difference. Oviedo CB beat guests from La Palma 92-81. It was a good game for Will Hanley who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 27 points and 15 rebounds. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Oviedo CB moved-up to third place, which they share with Lan Mobel ISB. Loser La Palma stay at the bottom position with seven games lost. Oviedo CB will face Aurteneche M. (#6) in Vitoria-Gasteiz in the next round.
