Undefeated leader Real Madrid delivered the fourteenth consecutive win on Sunday night. This time they beat 18th ranked Lagun Aro GBC (2-12) 85-71 in San Sebastian. The game was mostly controlled by Real Madrid. Lagun Aro GBC managed to win third quarter 21-20. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Real Madrid made 17-of-22 free shots (77.3 percent) during the game. They also forced 21 Lagun Aro GBC turnovers. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Real Madrid made 9 blocks. 24 personal fouls committed by Lagun Aro GBC helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was international Sergio Llull (192-87) who scored 24 points. Naturalized Montenegrin power forward Nikola Mirotic (207-91) chipped in 13 points and 5 rebounds. American guard Jermaine Taylor (193-86, college: Cent.Florida) produced 16 points for the hosts. Lagun Aro GBC's coach Alfonso Alonso rotated ten players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Undefeated Real Madrid (14-0) have an impressive 14-game winning streak. They maintain first position with a perfect record of 14 victories in a row. Lagun Aro GBC at the other side stay at the bottom place with 12 games lost. They share the position with Assignia M.. Real Madrid are looking forward to face Regal FC Barcelona (#8) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Lagun Aro GBC will play against Blusens Monbus (#11) in Santoago de Comp and is hoping to prove to their fans that the loss was just an accident.
Seventeenth-ranked Assignia Manresa (2-12) made lots of trouble for fifth ranked Valencia Basket (10-4). The visitors from Valencia managed to secure only one-point victory 87-86. However their fans expected much easier game. American forward Justin Doellman (206-85, college: Xavier) saved the victory by scoring 24 points and 7 rebounds. Rafael Martinez contributed with 19 points for the winners. Hungarian Adam Hanga (200-89, agency: TSS Management) replied with 23 points and 4 steals for Assignia Manresa. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Valencia Basket moved-up to third place, which they share with G.Canaria 2014 and Gescrap BB. Assignia Manresa at the other side keeps the seventeenth position with 12 games lost. They share it with Lagun Aro GBC. Valencia Basket will play against Unicaja Malaga (#7) at home in the next round. Assignia Manresa will play against CB Canarias (#14) in Tenerife and hopes to get back on the winning track.
A very close game took place in Murcia between UCAM Murcia and CAI Zaragoza. Thirteenth ranked UCAM Murcia (6-8) got a very close home victory over higher ranked CAI Zaragoza (8-6). UCAM Murcia managed to escape with a 2-point win 77-75 on Sunday evening. Jose Angel Antelo scored 18 points and 8 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners. Henk Norel responded with 18 points and 7 rebounds. UCAM Murcia moved-up to twelfth place, which they share with Blancos de R. Loser CAI Zaragoza keeps the sixth position with six games lost. They share it with Unicaja. UCAM Murcia will meet at home higher ranked Asefa Estudiantes (#10) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. CAI Zaragoza will play against Gescrap BB (#4) and will have a slim chance for a victory.
A very interesting game took place in Malaga. It ended with only two-point defeat on the road of 8th ranked Regal FC Barcelona (7-7) to ninth ranked Unicaja Malaga (8-6) 71-69 on Sunday evening. Marcus Williams notched 15 points and 4 assists to lead the effort. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Unicaja Malaga moved-up to sixth place, which they share with CAI Zaragoza. Regal FC Barcelona lost third consecutive game. Defending champion keeps the eighth position with seven games lost. Unicaja Malaga's next round opponent will be higher ranked Valencia Basket (#3) on the road and it may be quite challenging game. Regal FC Barcelona will play against the league's leader Real Madrid (#1).
The game with biggest result difference took place in Badalona. Local FIATC Joventut (7-7) outscored higher ranked Asefa Estudiantes (7-7) 96-75 on Sunday night. The best player for the winners was Corey Fisher who scored 22 points and 4 assists (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. FIATC Joventut moved-up to eighth place, which they share with 3 other teams including defeated Asefa Estudiantes.
