Bottom-ranked Melilla Baloncesto managed to get a fourth victory, breaking the series of two consecutive loses on Friday night. This time they outleveled seventh-ranked CB Clavijo 91-70. It's especially surprising that the victory came too easily and 21-point difference suggests that Melilla Baloncesto is in a good shape to leave the bottom place. The hosts trailed by 1 point after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 4-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 91-70. Melilla Baloncesto outrebounded CB Clavijo 38-22 including a 29-17 advantage in defensive rebounds. Melilla Baloncesto looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists comparing to just 13 passes made by CB Clavijo's players. The best player for the winners was the former international forward Francisco Sanchez (201-79) who scored 24 points. point guard Jose Antonio Marco (180-89) chipped in 10 points and 13 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was Lithuanian center Deividas Busma (212-87, college: Idaho St., agency: Two Points) who recorded 16 points and 7 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Melilla Baloncesto maintains fourteenth place with 4-11 record. CB Clavijo at the other side dropped to the eighth position with nine games lost. They share it with 4 other teams. Melilla Baloncesto is looking forward to face higher ranked FCB Regal II (#12) in Barcelona in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. CB Clavijo will play at home against Ourense (#13) and is hoping to win this game.
Leader Ford Burgos delivered the thirteenth victory. This time they beat 8th ranked Lobe Huesca (6-9) 79-70. It was a good game for American forward Lucas Sikma (203-89, college: Portland) who led his team to a victory with 15 points and 6 rebounds (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field). Daniel Lopez contributed with 11 points and 5 assists for the winners. point guard Eric Sanchez (181-82, agency: Dynamics Global Management) answered with 17 points and 5 rebounds for Lobe Huesca. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Ford Burgos (13-2) have an impressive series of eleven victories in a row. Ford Burgos maintains first place, which they share with Andorra. Lobe Huesca at the other side keeps the eighth position with nine games lost. They share it with 4 other teams. Ford Burgos will play against Leche Rio Breogan (#6) in Lugo in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Lobe Huesca will play at home against Lleida Basquet and hopes to get back on the winning track.
The game in Lugo was also quite interesting. Second ranked River Andorra (13-2) played at the court of 5th ranked Leche Rio Breogan (7-8). River Andorra defeated Leche Rio Breogan 77-66 on Saturday. It was a great evening for Dmitry Flis who led his team to a victory scoring 17 points. The best for the losing side was Anthony Winchester with 24 points and 6 rebounds. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. River Andorra keeps a position of league leader, which they share with A.Ford Burgos. Loser Leche Rio Breogan keeps the fifth place with eight games lost. They share the position with Forca Lleida and Planasa NV. River Andorra will meet at home Meridiano Alicante (#3) in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Leche Rio Breogan will play against the league's leader Ford Burgos and hope to secure a win.
The game in Coruna was also worth to mention about. Fourth ranked Palencia Baloncesto (9-6) played at the court of 8th ranked Leyma Basquet (6-9). Palencia Baloncesto managed to secure a 6-point victory 69-63. It was an exceptional evening for Urko Otegui who led the winners and scored 21 points and 4 steals. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Palencia Baloncesto maintains fourth place with 9-6 record. Leyma Basquet lost their fourth game in a row. Newly promoted team keeps the eighth position with nine games lost. Palencia Baloncesto's next round opponent will be Planasa NV (#7) in Pamplona. Leyma Basquet will play on the road against Caceres Basket.
The game with biggest result difference took place in Lleida. Local Lleida Basquet (7-8) outscored higher ranked Planasa NV (7-8) 90-61 on Friday night.
