The most surprising game was a loss of top-ranked Ford Burgos (13-3) at the home court on Friday night. Hosts were defeated by sixth ranked Leche Rio Breogan (8-8) 85-77. It ended at the same time the 11-game winning streak of Ford Burgos. The guests were tied at the half but managed to speed up in last two quarters eventually winning the game. Worth to mention a great performance of Senegalese center Michel Diouf (208-89) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 14 points and 13 rebounds. Nigerian-Dominican point guard Sean Ogirri (188-86, college: Wyoming) contributed with 22 points for the winners. Power forward Josep Ortega (201-84) replied with 16 points and 5 rebounds for Ford Burgos. Ford Burgos' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Leche Rio Breogan moved-up to fifth place. Ford Burgos at the other side dropped to the second position with three games lost. Leche Rio Breogan are looking forward to face Lobe Huesca (#9) at home in the next round. Ford Burgos will play against Meridiano Alicante (#3) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
An interesting game for River Andorra (14-2) which hosted in Andorra 3rd ranked Meridiano Alicante (10-6). First ranked River Andorra managed to get a 4-point victory 84-80. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Meridiano Alicante. Worth to mention a great performance of American forward Justin Safford (204-87, college: Missouri) who helped to win the game recording 18 points and Marc Blanch who added 18 points during the contest. At the losing side the former international center Jesus Fernandez (204-75) responded with 26 points. Meridiano Alicante's coach tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. River Andorra have a solid three-game winning streak. Newly promoted River Andorra maintains first position with 14-2 record. Meridiano Alicante at the other side keeps the third place with six games lost. They share the position with Palencia. River Andorra will play against bottom-ranked Melilla Baloncesto (#14) on the road in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Meridiano Alicante will play against the league's second-placed Ford Burgos (#2) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Lobe Huesca managed to escape with a 1-point win 74-73 in the fight for the sixth place. The winners were led by Charles Abouo who scored that evening 20 points and 7 rebounds. Even 17 points by Sergi Pino did not help to save the game for Lleida Basquet. Lleida Basquet's coach let to play ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Lobe Huesca moved-up to sixth place, which they share with 5 other teams including defeated Lleida Basquet. Lobe Huesca will meet higher ranked Leche Rio Breogan (#5) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Lleida Basquet will play against Palencia Baloncesto and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Leyma Basquet lost fifth consecutive game. Newly promoted team dropped to the twelfth position with ten games lost. Caceres Basket's next round opponent will be Planasa NV (#10) in Pamplona. Leyma Basquet will play at home against CB Clavijo in Logrono.

Other games in round 16 were not that significant. Bottom-ranked Melilla was beaten by FCB Regal II on the road 83-78. Palencia won against Planasa NV on its own court 86-80. Ourense unfortunately lost to Clavijo in Logrono 71-75.
The most impressive performance of 16th round was 24 points and 12 rebounds by Ondrej Starosta of Planasa NV.


FCB Regal II - Melilla 83-78

No shocking result in a game when eleventh ranked FCB Regal II (7-9) beat bottom-ranked Melilla Baloncesto (4-12) in Barcelona 83-78. The hosts were already 13 points ahead at halftime and as many as 17 after three quarters before a 36-24 last quarter charge of Melilla Baloncesto cut the lead to 83-78 at the end of the game. Croatian swingman Mario Hezonja (202-95) fired 22 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. point guard Josep Perez (184-94) chipped in 10 points and 7 assists. Latvian center Andrejs Selakovs (207-88, agency: Players Group) produced 11 points and 9 rebounds and German power forward Kiril Wachsmann (203-83, college: Iona, agency: Edge Sports) added 10 points and 6 rebounds respectively for lost side. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. FCB Regal II moved-up to sixth place, which they share with 5 other teams. Melilla Baloncesto at the other side stay at the bottom position with 12 games lost. FCB Regal II's next round opponent will be Ourense (#13) on the road and are hoping to win another game. Melilla Baloncesto will play against the league's leader River Andorra.
