Alba Torrens selected the top Spaniard playing abroad in last week's games - Feb 6, 2013

We bring you last week's top performances from Spaniards who are playing abroad and who all have had prior experience of national team duties at youth or senior level.


Alba Torrens

   #1. This week's number one is former international forward Alba Torrens (188-89, currently plays in Turkey), who plays in the Turkish TKBL. She could not help one of league's weakest teams Galatasaray (13-3) in their last game. Despite Torrens' very good performance Galatasaray lost 68-72 on the road to the second-ranked Kayseri. She was the top scorer with 19 points. Torrens also added 8 rebounds in 35 minutes on the court. It was Galatasaray's first loss after four consecutive victories. Torrens has relatively good stats this year: 14.0ppg, 5.3rpg, 2.7apg, 1.7spg, 2FGP: 41.4% and FT: 85.7% in the three games she played so far. She played for the Spanish senior national team two years ago.

Sancho Lyttle

   #2. Second place goes to an international center Sancho Lyttle (192-83, college: Houston, currently plays in Euroleague) is a teammate of previously mentioned Alba Torrens. But that was another game of her team in Euroleague which we would like to mention. Lyttle, who plays in Turkey. She was not able to help Galatasaray (9-3) in their last game on Wednesday. Despite Lyttle's good performance the second-placed Galatasaray was badly defeated 61-45 in Ekaterinburg by the leading UMMC in the group C of Euroleague. She was the top scorer with 12 points. Lyttle also added 6 rebounds and made 2 blocks. It's Lyttle's first season with the team. This year she has relatively solid stats: 11.3ppg, 7.5rpg, 1.2apg, 2.3spg, 2FGP: 44.4%, 3FGP: 22.2% and FT: 59.4%. Lyttle has a dual citizenship: Vincentian and Spanish. Ex-EBE Promociones P.D.V. Santa Eulalia player is in the roster of the Spanish senior national team.

Laia Palau

   #3. The Spanish player who performed third best last week abroad was an experienced international guard Laia Palau (176-79, currently plays in Poland). She was the major contributor in a CCC Polkowice's victory against the closely-ranked Artego Bydgoszcz (14-2) 68-57 in the Polish PLKK on Tuesday night. Palau scored 12 points and added 8 passes in 36 minutes. It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. CCC Polkowice (15-1) is placed first in the PLKK. It was her team's seventh consecutive victory in a row. There are only two games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be critical. Palau belongs to league's best passers and is ranked #2 with 5.8apg. This year her other stats are: 6.9ppg, 3.4rpg, 2.2spg, 2FGP: 49.2%, 3FGP: 38.9% in the 17 games. Palau is also a member of the Spanish senior national team.

   #4. Guard Cristina Ouvina (174-90, currently plays in Euroleague) contributed to a Wisla Can-Pak's victory against the closely-ranked Rivas Ecopolis (6-5) 74-66 in the Euroleague on Wednesday night. She recorded 10 points and added 3 assists. TS Wisla Can-Pack Krakow (6-6) is placed fourth in group A. The Regular Season already ended in the Euroleague. Ouvina belongs to league's best passers (ranked #5) and also on the list of most steals (fourth place). This season she averages: 6.1ppg, 3.5rpg, 4.8apg and 2.4spg. Ouvina is also Spanish national team player.

   #5. Former international point guard Nuria Martinez (175-84, currently plays in Turkey) faced previously mentioned Alba Torrens in the Turkish TKBL last game. Martinez led Kayseri to a victory against the closely-ranked Galatasaray (14-3) 72-68. She recorded 11 points in a mere 19 minutes. This year Martinez's overall stats are: 7.5ppg, 2.4rpg, 1.9apg and 1.1spg in the 16 games. She used to play for the Spanish national team three years ago.

Silvia Dominguez

   #6. Point guard Silvia Dominguez (167-87, currently plays in Euroleague) faced previously mentioned Sancho Lyttle in the Euroleague last game. Dominguez managed to help UMMC Ekaterinburg to win against the closely-ranked Galatasaray (9-3) 61-45. She scored only 3 points. The Regular Season already ended in the Euroleague. Dominguez is ranked sixth on the list of the best passers in the league. Her total stats this season are: 4.4ppg, 2.1rpg and 4.8apg. Dominguez is a former international player as she played for the Spanish senior team two years ago.

Gabriela Ocete

   #7. Former U20 international guard Gabriela Ocete (170-88, currently plays in France) helped Tarbes win their game against the league outsider Union Hainaut (4-14) 64-60 in the French LFB last Saturday. She scored only 3 points and grabbed 5 rebounds in 30 minutes. Tarbes Gespe Bigorre (10-8) is placed fifth in the LFB. It was her team's third consecutive victory in a row. This year Ocete's total stats are: 6.5ppg, 2.2rpg, 3.2apg and 1.3spg in the 18 games. She used to play for the Spanish U20 national team five years ago.

   #8. Center Celia Menendez (188-90, currently plays in Belgium), who plays in the Belgian Division I was not able to secure a victory for R.Spirou Monceau (5-11) in their last game on Saturday. Despite Menendez's good performance R.Spirou Monceau was defeated 76-67 in Boom by the leading BBC Kangoeroes-. She was the second best scorer with 13 points. Menendez also added 9 rebounds. Menendez has reliable stats this season: 10.8ppg, 4.9rpg and 1.3spg. She used to play for the Spanish U20 national team back in 2010.


The list of other players, who all have Spanish passport but never been selected to any of Spanish national teams:

   #1. Natasha Lacy (178-PG-85, agency: Merit Sports, college: UTEP, currently plays in Euroleague) contributed to a 3-point Good Angels' victory against the closely-ranked Fenerbahce (9-3) 66-63 in the Euroleague in Wednesday night's game. She recorded 8 points and grabbed 4 rebounds. It was the game of the round between two top 2 ranked teams in group B. Good Angels Kosice (9-3) is placed first. It was her team's sixth consecutive victory in a row. The Regular Season already ended in the Euroleague. This season Lacy averages: 8.3ppg, 5.3rpg, 3.4apg and 1.7spg.

   #2. Jessica Adair (193-C-86, agency: LBM Management, college: G.Washington, currently plays in Australia) led Townsville Fire to a victory over one of league's weakest teams Sydney Uni Flames (6-15) 98-91 in the Australian WNBL last Saturday. She was MVP of the game. Adair had a double-double by scoring 22 points and getting 13 rebounds in 35 minutes. Townsville Fire (12-9) is placed fourth in the WNBL. There are only three games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be critical. Adair has reliable stats this year: 10.8ppg, 6.5rpg and 1.5spg in the 13 games she played so far.

   #3. Helena Boada (174-G-87, agency: Regeneracom Sports, currently plays in Slovenia), who plays in the Slovenian SKL could not help Domzale (4-9) in their last game on Wednesday. Despite Boada's very good performance Domzale was edged 81-80 on the road by the higher-ranked Ilrija (#4). She was the top scorer with 34 points. Boada also added 6 boards, dished 3 assists and stole 5 balls. There are only three games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game is very crucial. Boada is currently first on the league's list of top scorers and also on the list of best passers (second place). She has individually a very good season with high stats. Boada averages: 25.1ppg, 6.7rpg, 3.9apg and 4.3spg.

   #4. Laura Garcia (176-G-81, currently plays in France), who plays in the French LFB was not able to help Union Hainaut (4-14) in their last game. Despite her good performance the bottom-ranked Union Hainaut lost 60-64 on the opponent's court to the much higher-ranked (#5) Tarbes. Garcia scored 11 points and grabbed 7 rebounds in 31 minutes. Garcia has reliable stats this year: 10.2ppg, 4.1rpg, 1.6apg and 1.4spg in the 18 games.

   #5. Lorena Infantes (171-PG-81, also represented by Regeneracom Sports, currently plays in Turkey) was not able to secure a victory for Canik Bld (6-10) in their game against Tarsus Bld (11-5) in the Turkish TKBL. Despite her very good performance on Sunday night Infantes recorded 14 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists. It was his first game for Canik Bld this season.

   #6. Experienced Valentina Aragonese (173-F-79, agency: Players Group, currently plays in Italy) was the main contributor in Ancona's victory against the tenth-ranked Viterbo 57-55 in the Italian A2 (12th division) in Thursday night's game. Aragonese was MVP of the game. She scored 14 points and grabbed 4 rebounds in 28 minutes. Aragonese has reliable stats this year: 10.6ppg, 3.4rpg, 1.7apg and 1.9spg in the 18 games. She has a dual citizenship: Chilean and Spanish.

   #7. Sandra Ygueravide (172-PG-84, agency: Josep and Nicolas, currently plays in Turkey) couldn't help Edremit in their game against Istanbul Universitesi in the Turkish TKBL, despite her very good performance on Sunday night. Ygueravide recorded 13 points in 26 minutes. But her team lost 68-83. Ygueravide's stats this year are: 11.3ppg in the three games.

Herrera re-signs at Campus Promete - 2 hours ago
Campus Promete Logrono (LFB) confirmed in their roster 28-year old international power forward Laura Herrera (190-89, agency: ProDep Management). She played there last season. In 26 LFB games she had 7.2ppg, 6.1rpg and 1.9apg. The previous (15-16) season Herrera played at Socinsa Bembibre where in 26 games she recorded 7.0ppg, 4.3rpg and 1.2apg. Spain U20 wins Torneo de Bourg-en-Bresse - 2 hours ago
Spain U20 won Torneo de Bourg-en-Bresse in France. The team finished on top with a 2-1 record despite the loss to Serbia U20 59-62. In Day 1 Spain U20 overcame Portugal U20 89-56 as Angela ALVAREZ posted 15 points to lead all the winners. Last night Spain U20 triumphed at the tournament after a 74-49 win over the hosts. Angela ALVAREZ stepped up with 19 points and Paula Ginzo(187-F-98) added 13.   [read more]

Nascimento re-signs at Al-Qazeres - 3 hours ago
CB Al-Qazeres Extremadura (LFB) confirmed in their roster 31-year old Portuguese ex-international guard Carla Nascimento (171-86). She has played there for the last two seasons. In 13 LFB games she had 4.2ppg, 4.0rpg, 1.8apg and 1.0spg last season. Nascimento won Spanish LF2 championship title for three years in a row (between 2014 and 2016).
