LFB Round 16: Perfumerias Avenida loses to Argon Uni Girona in the game between Top 4 teams - Feb 10, 2013

The game between Top Four teams took place in Girona. Third ranked host Argon Uni Girona (10-4) defeated their biggest opponent Perfumerias Avenida (11-3) 69-59. It ended at the same time the eight-game winning streak of Perfumerias Avenida. The game was mostly controlled by Argon Uni Girona. Perfumerias Avenida managed to win third quarter 27-20. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Argon Uni Girona dominated on the defensive end, holding Perfumerias Avenida to just 5 points in fourth quarter. Argon Uni Girona forced 23 Perfumerias Avenida turnovers. They shot the lights out from three sinking 12 long-distance shots on high 52.2 percentage. Worth to mention a great performance of point guard Noemi Jordana (173-80) who helped to win the game recording 25 points and American power forward Jacinta Monroe (193-88, college: Florida St.) who added 9 points and 13 rebounds during the contest. At the losing side American center Le'Coe Willingham (183-81, college: Auburn, agency: Josep and Nicolas) responded with 21 points. Perfumerias Avenida's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Argon Uni Girona maintains third position with 10-4 record having five points less than leader Rivas Ecopolis. Perfumerias Avenida at the other side keeps the second place with three games lost. Argon Uni Girona are looking forward to face Hondarribia-Irun (#10) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Perfumerias Avenida will play against Cadi ICG S. (#4) in Seu D'urgell and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

The winners were led by international point guard Anna Cruz (173-86, agency: Josep and Nicolas) who scored that evening 18 points and 4 steals and Aneika Henry supported her with 15 points and 5 rebounds. Even a double-double of 13 points and 10 rebounds by Latvian power forward Aija Putnina (191-88, agency: Josep and Nicolas) did not help to save the game for Navarra Pamplona. Rivas Ecopolis have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 14-1 record. Navarra Pamplona at the other side keeps the fourth place with seven games lost. They share the position with Cadi ICG S.. Rivas Ecopolis will play against Jopisa Burgos (#7) at home in the next round where they are favorite. Navarra Pamplona will play against Caja Rural in Zamora and hopes to get back on the winning track.
Eighth ranked Gran Canaria (7-8) crushed at home 9th ranked Hondarribia-Irun (5-10) by 16 points 94-78, which is the biggest margin this round on Saturday night. Leticia Romero fired 24 points and 7 assists for the winners. Italee Lucas produced 27 points (made all of her twelve free throws !!!) for lost side. Gran Canaria moved-up to sixth place. Hondarribia-Irun lost third consecutive game. They keep the ninth position with ten games lost. They share it with Conquero. Gran Canaria will meet bottom-ranked Socinsa Bembibre (#11) on the road in the next round where they are favorite. Hondarribia-Irun will play against Argon Uni Girona and hope to secure a win.

In the last two games of round 16 Caja Rural lost to Cadi ICG S. on the opponent's court 79-89. Conquero managed to outperform Bembibre in a home game 68-64.
The most impressive stats of the last round was 30 points and 12 rebounds by Bernice Mosby of Conquero.

The game between closely ranked teams ended with 6th ranked Caja Rural's (6-9) road loss to fifth ranked Cadi ICG S. (7-7) 79-89 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Cadi ICG S.. Caja Rural managed to win second period 27-23. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They made 22-of-29 free shots (75.9 percent) during the game. Senegalese power forward Astou Traore (182-81, agency: Josep and Nicolas) fired 20 points (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) for the winners. American swingman Aja Parham (183-84, college: Boston Coll.) chipped in 17 points. Four Cadi ICG S. players scored in double figures. Cadi ICG S.'s coach Andreu Bou used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. They dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Hondarribia-Irun's 28. They outrebounded Hondarribia-Irun 39-27 including 29 on the defensive glass.
