Here is the weekly review of the top performing Spanish players, who play currently abroad.


Alba Torrens

   #1. This week's number one is former international forward Alba Torrens (188-89, currently plays in Turkey). She led Galatasaray to an easy victory against the league outsider Edremit (1-16) crushing them 88-33 in the Turkish TKBL in Saturday night's game. Torrens scored 13 points, made 5 passes and 3 steals in 23 minutes on the court. Galatasaray M.P. Istanbul (14-3) is placed second in the TKBL. Torrens has relatively good stats this year: 13.8ppg, 4.5rpg, 3.3apg, 2.0spg, 2FGP: 47.2%, 3FGP: 38.5% and FT: 85.7% in the four games she played so far. She played for the Spanish senior national team two years ago.

Sancho Lyttle

   #2. Second place goes to an international center Sancho Lyttle (192-83, college: Houston, currently plays in Euroleague) is a teammate of previously mentioned Alba Torrens. But that was another game of her team in Euroleague which we would like to mention. Lyttle, who plays in Turkey. She could not help Galatasaray (9-3) in their last game on Wednesday. Despite Lyttle's good performance the second-placed Galatasaray was badly defeated 61-45 on the road by the leading UMMC Ekaterinburg in the group C of Euroleague. She was the top scorer with 12 points. Lyttle also added 6 rebounds and made 2 blocks. It's Lyttle's first season with the team. This year she has relatively solid stats: 11.3ppg, 7.5rpg, 1.2apg, 2.3spg, 2FGP: 44.4%, 3FGP: 22.2% and FT: 59.4%. Lyttle has a dual citizenship: Vincentian and Spanish. Ex-EBE Promociones P.D.V. Santa Eulalia player is in the roster of the Spanish senior national team.

Laia Palau

   #3. The Spanish player who performed third best last week abroad was an experienced international guard Laia Palau (176-79, currently plays in Poland). She was the major contributor in a CCC Polkowice's victory against the closely-ranked Artego Bydgoszcz (15-2) 68-57 in the Polish PLKK on Tuesday night. Palau scored 12 points and added 8 passes in 36 minutes. It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. CCC Polkowice (16-1) is placed first in the PLKK. It was her team's eighth consecutive victory in a row. They will play only one more game in the Regular Season. And that game will be critical. Palau belongs to league's best passers and is ranked #2 with 5.7apg. This year her other stats are: 6.6ppg, 3.4rpg, 2.2spg, 2FGP: 48.4%, 3FGP: 37.8% and FT: 63.0% in the 18 games. Palau is also a member of the Spanish senior national team.

Nuria Martinez

   #4. Point guard Nuria Martinez (175-84, currently plays in Eurocup) led her Turkish team Kayseri to an easy victory against the third-ranked MBK Ruzomberok (2-2) 79-60 in the Eurocup in Thursday night's game. She recorded 11 points and grabbed 4 rebounds (made all of her six free throws). Pankup TED Kayseri Kolejspor (3-1) is placed first in group E. It was her team's third consecutive victory in a row. This season Martinez averages: 7.8ppg, 4.7rpg, 3.3apg and 1.9spg. She used to play for the Spanish national team back in 2010.

   #5. Former U20 international guard Gabriela Ocete (170-88, currently plays in France) contributed to an easy victory against the ninth-ranked Toulouse (8-11) crushing them 70-49 in the French LFB in Saturday night's game. She recorded 8 points and added 4 assists in 33 minutes. Tarbes Gespe Bigorre (11-8) is placed fourth in the LFB. It was her team's fourth consecutive victory in a row. This year Ocete's overall stats are: 6.6ppg, 2.1rpg, 3.2apg and 1.3spg in the 19 games. She used to play for the Spanish U20 national team five years ago.

Silvia Dominguez

   #6. Point guard Silvia Dominguez (166-87, currently plays in Euroleague) faced previously mentioned Sancho Lyttle in the Euroleague last game. Dominguez managed to help UMMC Ekaterinburg to win against the closely-ranked Galatasaray (9-3) 61-45. She scored only 3 points. The Regular Season already ended in the Euroleague. Dominguez is currently seventh on the league's list of best passers. Her total stats this season are: 4.4ppg, 2.1rpg and 4.8apg. Dominguez is a former international player as she played for the Spanish senior team two years ago.

   #7. International guard Cristina Ouvina (174-90, currently plays in Euroleague) was not able to help Wisla Can-Pak (6-6) in their game against Tarsus Bld (4-8) in the Euroleague. She cannot count Wednesday's game as one of the best ones. Ouvina scored only 2 points, made 6 passes and 3 steals. Wisla Can-Pak (#3) was edged 72-70 in Mersin by the lower-ranked Tarsus Bld (#6) in the group A of Euroleague. Her team will play only one more game in the Euroleague Regular Season. Ouvina is ranked sixth on the list of the best passers in the league and also on the list of most steals (fourth place). Her total stats this season are: 6.1ppg, 3.5rpg, 4.8apg and 2.4spg. Ouvina is also Spanish national team player.

Celia Menendez

   #8. Center Celia Menendez (188-90, currently plays in Belgium), who plays in the Belgian Division I was not able to secure a victory for R.Spirou Monceau (5-12) in their last game on Sunday. Despite her good performance R.Spirou Monceau was edged 74-73 in Ieper by the one of league's weakest teams Blue Cats (#11). Menendez scored 12 points and grabbed 9 rebounds. Menendez has reliable stats this season: 10.9ppg, 5.2rpg and 1.4spg. She used to play for the Spanish U20 national team back in 2010.


The list of other players, who all have Spanish passport but never been selected to any of Spanish national teams:

   #1. Natasha Lacy (178-PG-85, agency: Merit Sports, college: UTEP, currently plays in Euroleague), who plays in Hungary could not help Good Angels (9-3) to beat CSM Targoviste (4-8). Lacy scored 6 points and added 3 passes in 28 minutes. Good Angels lost 64-72 on the road to the lower-ranked (#5) CSM Targoviste in the group B of Euroleague. It was Good Angels' first loss after six consecutive victories. Her team will play only one more game in the Euroleague Regular Season. And that game will be critical. This year Lacy's overall stats are: 8.3ppg, 5.3rpg, 3.4apg and 1.7spg in the nine games she played so far.

   #2. Helena Boada (174-G-87, agency: Regeneracom Sports, currently plays in Slovenia), who plays in the Slovenian SKL was not able to help Domzale (4-10) in their last game on Saturday. Despite her very good performance Domzale was badly defeated 77-58 on the opponent's court by the league outsider Grosuplje (#9). Boada was the top scorer with 29 points. She also added 4 assists and 5 steals. There are only two games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game is very crucial. Boada is currently first on the league's list of top scorers and also on the list of best passers (third place). She has individually a very good season with high stats. Boada averages: 25.5ppg, 6.4rpg, 3.9apg and 4.4spg.

   #3. Jessica Adair (193-C-86, agency: LBM Management, college: G.Washington, currently plays in Australia), who plays in the Australian WNBL was not able to secure a victory for Townsville Fire (12-10) in their last game. Despite her good performance Townsville Fire lost 63-71 in Dandenong to the second-ranked Rangers. Adair was the top scorer with 10 points. She also added 8 rebounds in 32 minutes. There are only two games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be important. Adair has reliable stats this year: 10.7ppg, 6.6rpg and 1.4spg in the 14 games.

   #4. Laura Garcia (176-G-81, currently plays in France) contributed to an Union Hainaut's victory against one of league's weakest teams Arras (5-14) 72-64 in the French LFB last Sunday. She recorded 6 points in 34 minutes. Union Saint-Amand Porte du Hainaut (5-14) is located at the very bottom in the LFB. This year Garcia's total stats are: 9.9ppg, 4.0rpg, 1.6apg and 1.4spg in the 19 games.

   #5. Sandra Ygueravide (172-PG-84, agency: Josep and Nicolas, currently plays in Turkey) couldn't help Edremit (1-16) in their game against Galatasaray (14-3) in the Turkish TKBL, despite her very good performance in Saturday night's game. Ygueravide was the top scorer with 14 points in 24 minutes. But the bottom-ranked Edremit was crushed 88-33 in Istanbul by the much higher-ranked (#3) Galatasaray. It was Edremit's 12th consecutive loss in a row. Ygueravide's stats this year are: 12.0ppg in the four games.

   #6. Lorena Infantes (171-PG-81, also represented by Regeneracom Sports, currently plays in Turkey) couldn't help Canik Bld in their game against Ceyhan Bld in the Turkish TKBL. She scored 5 points, grabbed 5 rebounds and dished 4 assists. Her team was defeated 80-74. Infantes' total stats this season are: 9.5ppg, 4.5rpg and 3.5apg.

Podkowa inks at Ferrol at the beginning of her pro career - May 26, 2016

Universitario de Ferrol (LFB) added to their roster American swingman Megan Podkowa (188). Podkowa just graduated from De Paul (NCAA). In 29 games she recorded 13.0ppg, 7.7rpg, 3.0apg, 1.2spg and 1.3bpg last season. She helped them to win the regular season and make it to the semifinals. A very spectacular season in her career as she was selected All-Big East Scholar-Athlete of the Year and voted to CoSIDA NCAA Division I Academic All-District 5 1st Team and voted to All-Big East 2nd Team.    [read more]

Ana-Marija Begic agreed terms with Cadi La Seu - May 26, 2016

Cadi La Seu D'urgell (LFB) inked 22-year old Croatian ex-international center Ana-Marija Begic (190-94, agency: Regeneracom Sports). She played most recently at Campus Promete (LFB). In 23 games she recorded 5.3ppg, 4.0rpg and 1.2apg last season. The previous (14-15) season Begic played at ZKK Medvescak (A1) in Croatian league. Girona inks Sofia Silva - May 26, 2016

Spar Citylift Girona (LFB) signed 26-year old Portuguese ex-international center Sofia Silva (187-90). She played last season at Zamarat (LFB). In 19 games she had 11.9ppg, 8.5rpg and 1.3apg. The previous (14-15) season Silva played at CAB Madeira (Liga Feminina) in Portuguese league. In 5 games she recorded 11.0ppg, 8.6rpg and 1.0bpg in 2014-15 season.
