Round 17 in LEB Silver means a new league leader. The biggest surprise took place in S'Arenal where host Palma (7-9) beat league's leader CB Guadalajara (10-5) 86-72 on Saturday evening. The game was mostly controlled by Palma. CB Guadalajara managed to win second period 19-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding CB Guadalajara to just 7 points in first quarter. They outrebounded CB Guadalajara 39-25 including a 28-17 advantage in defensive rebounds. 24 personal fouls committed by CB Guadalajara helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was forward Ivan Matemalas (193-80) who scored 21 points. Guard Israel Pampin (192-79) chipped in 15 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Center Jose Balmon (204-81) produced a double-double by scoring 19 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists for the guests. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Palma have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to seventh place. CB Guadalajara at the other side, also newcomer in the league, dropped to the second position with five games lost. They were replaced at the leadership position by Oviedo CB. CB Guadalajara will play next round against league's leader Oviedo CB trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Palma will try to continue on its current victory against ninth ranked Cafes Aitona in San Sebastian.
The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Oviedo CB as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Oviedo CB edged 10th ranked Castello at home 81-79. American-Irish swingman Will Hanley (200-90, college: Bowdoin, agency: Duran International) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 17 points, 16 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 steals. Victor Perez contributed with 18 points for the winners. Center Victor Hidalgo (204-86) answered with 19 points and 7 rebounds (was perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line !!!) for Castello. As mentioned above they took over a top position. Castello lost third consecutive game. Newly promoted team dropped to the ninth place with ten games lost. They share the position with Cafes Aitona. Castello will play next round against strong Lan Mobel ISB trying to get back on the winning streak. Oviedo CB will try to continue on its current victory against second ranked CB Guadalajara on the road.
The game in Avila was also quite interesting. Sixth ranked Aurteneche M. (9-7) played at the court of 7th ranked Fontedoso Carrefour (6-10). Aurteneche M. managed to secure a 8-point victory 73-65 on Saturday. Ander Arruti stepped up and scored 12 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. Riley Luettgerodt responded with 26 points and 5 rebounds. Aurteneche M. have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Clinicas Rincon. Loser Fontedoso Carrefour dropped to the eighth position with ten games lost. Aurteneche M. will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Fontedoso Carrefour will play against Clinicas Rincon (#5) in Malaga and hope to secure a win.
The game with biggest result difference took place in Malaga. Local Clinicas Rincon (9-7) was outscored by fifth ranked Lan Mobel ISB (9-6) 77-57. Antonio Pantin nailed a double-double by scoring 14 points and 16 rebounds for the winning side. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Lan Mobel ISB moved-up to fourth place. Clinicas Rincon lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the fifth position with seven games lost. Lan Mobel ISB's next round opponent will be Castello (#10) in Castellon which should be theoretically another easy game. Clinicas Rincon will play on the road against Fontedoso Carrefour (#8) in Avila and be promoted back to the LEB Gold just one year after relegation.

In the last game of round 17 Cafes Aitona was defeated by Prat Juventud in a road game 74-67.

Avila - Aurteneche M. 65-73

The game in Avila was also quite interesting. Sixth ranked Aurteneche M. (9-7) played at the court of 7th ranked Fontedoso Carrefour (6-10). Aurteneche M. managed to secure a 8-point victory 73-65 on Saturday. Fontedoso Carrefour was tied after three quarters but could not keep up in the last quarter eventually losing the game. Aurteneche M. dominated down low during the game scoring 46 of its points in the paint compared to Fontedoso Carrefour's 24. Guard Ander Arruti (189-90) stepped up and scored 12 points and 6 rebounds for the winners and Cuban forward Georvys Elias (199-81) chipped in 7 points and 11 rebounds. American swingman Riley Luettgerodt (196-85, college: Hawaii, agency: I.D.S. Law) responded with 26 points and 5 rebounds and center Antoni Vicens (202-90) scored 10 points and 9 rebounds.
