LFB Round 17: Perfumerias Avenida beats Cadi ICG S. in the most crucial game of the week - Feb 16, 2013

An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Salamanca. Second ranked Perfumerias Avenida faced 4th placed Cadi ICG S.. Host Perfumerias Avenida (12-3) smashed guests from Seu D'urgell (7-8) 74-52. The game without a history. Perfumerias Avenida led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. Perfumerias Avenida outrebounded Cadi ICG S. 50-30 including 16 on the offensive glass. The best player for the winners was international point guard Marta Xargay Casademont (181-90, agency: Josep and Nicolas) who scored 17 points and 6 rebounds. International center Lucila Pascua (195-83) chipped in 16 points and 9 rebounds. Senegalese power forward Astou Traore (182-81, agency: Josep and Nicolas) produced 12 points for the guests. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Perfumerias Avenida maintains second place with 12-3 record having four points less than leader Rivas Ecopolis. Cadi ICG S. at the other side dropped to the fifth position with eight games lost. Perfumerias Avenida are looking forward to face Navarra Pamplona (#4) on the road in the next round. Cadi ICG S. will play against Argon Uni Girona and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Bottom-ranked Socinsa Bembibre managed to get a third victory. This time newly promoted Socinsa Bembibre won against sixth-ranked Gran Canaria 66-62. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Gran Canaria. American center LaNedra Brown (188-81, college: Seton Hall) orchestrated the victory by scoring 17 points and 5 rebounds. Cristina Lopez contributed with 14 points and 4 assists for the winners. International power forward Vanessa Ble (190-91) answered with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 11 rebounds for Gran Canaria. Newly promoted Socinsa Bembibre maintains eleventh place with 3-13 record. Gran Canaria at the other side keeps the sixth position with nine games lost. Socinsa Bembibre will play against higher ranked Hondarribia-Irun (#10) at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Gran Canaria will have a break next round.
Leader Rivas Ecopolis delivered the fifteenth victory on Saturday night. This time they crushed 7th ranked Jopisa Burgos (6-9) 86-51. Queralt Casas stepped up and scored 18 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 steals (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) for the winners. Rivas Ecopolis' coach Miguel Mendez felt very confident using 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Rachel Allison responded with 19 points and 9 rebounds. Rivas Ecopolis have a solid series of four victories in a row. They maintain first place with 15-1 record. Loser Jopisa Burgos keeps the seventh position with nine games lost. Rivas Ecopolis will meet Conquero (#9) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Jopisa Burgos will play against Caja Rural in Zamora and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
The game in Zamora was also worth to mention about. Fifth ranked Navarra Pamplona (8-7) played at the court of 8th ranked Caja Rural (6-10). Navarra Pamplona defeated Caja Rural 73-63. Laura Herrera nailed 20 points and 7 rebounds for the winning side. Navarra Pamplona moved-up to fourth place. Caja Rural lost sixth consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the eighth position with ten games lost. Navarra Pamplona's next round opponent will be league's second-placed Perfumerias Avenida in Salamanca and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Caja Rural will play on the road against Jopisa Burgos (#7) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

In the last game of round 17 Uni Girona defeated Hondar.-Irun in a road game 49-42.


Bembibre - Gran Canaria 66-62

Bottom-ranked Socinsa Bembibre managed to get a third victory. This time newly promoted Socinsa Bembibre won against sixth-ranked Gran Canaria 66-62. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Gran Canaria. Gran Canaria was ahead by 7 points after three quarters before a 22-11 charge of Socinsa Bembibre, which allowed them to win the game. American center LaNedra Brown (188-81, college: Seton Hall) orchestrated the victory by scoring 17 points and 5 rebounds. point guard Cristina Lopez (170-80) contributed with 14 points and 4 assists for the winners. International power forward Vanessa Ble (190-91) answered with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 11 rebounds and forward Maria Mongomo (178-95) added 10 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Gran Canaria. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Newly promoted Socinsa Bembibre maintains eleventh place with 3-13 record. Gran Canaria at the other side keeps the sixth position with nine games lost. Socinsa Bembibre will play against higher ranked Hondarribia-Irun (#10) at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Gran Canaria will have a break next round.

They dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Jopisa Burgos' 28. They outrebounded Jopisa Burgos 39-26 including a 27-14 advantage in defensive rebounds. Swingman Queralt Casas (178-92) stepped up and scored 18 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 steals (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) for the winners and Ukrainian forward Olexandra Kurasova (186-86) chipped in 21 points and 5 rebounds.
