Very exciting round. It does not happen too often that three games need overtime in just one round. The round was rather attractive and full of interesting results. The round ended with defeat of the leader, favorites losing the games and games ending by tiny margin.

Top ranked Cortegada (12-3) recorded its third loss in Vilagarcia Arousa on Saturday night. Hosts were defeated by tenth ranked ADBA (5-10) 66-51. The game was mostly controlled by ADBA. Cortegada managed to win second period 14-12. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The best player for the winners was Cameroonian forward Amina Njonkou (185-88, college: Arizona) who had a double-double by scoring 14 points, 18 rebounds and 4 assists. Forward Anna Boleda (181-81) chipped in 12 points and 7 rebounds. Guard Maria Ylenia Manzanares (175-83) produced a double-double by scoring 16 points, 11 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals for the hosts. ADBA moved-up to ninth place in Group A, which they share with Valladolid. Cortegada at the other side still keeps top position with three games lost. They share it with Al-Qazeres. ADBA is looking forward to face higher ranked Maquinaria Ensino (#5) in Lugo in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Cortegada will play on the road against Aros Leon (#4) and is hoping to win this game.
Important game to mention about took place in Madrid. Seventh ranked ASEFA Estudiantes (8-9) saved a 2-point victory at home edging 5th ranked Orion-GDKO (10-7) 81-79 on Saturday evening. Center Mariana Gonzalez (187-88) orchestrated the victory by scoring 16 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists. Elena De Alfredo contributed with 17 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. ASEFA Estudiantes' coach Diego Rubio allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. point guard Ainara Ramasco (169-89) answered with 16 points, 5 assists and 5 steals (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) for Orion-GDKO. ASEFA Estudiantes moved-up to sixth place in Group B, which they share with Gernika. Orion-GDKO at the other side keeps the fifth position with seven games lost. ASEFA Estudiantes will play against Segle XXI (#8) in Barcelona in the next round. Orion-GDKO will play on the road against Leganes and hopes to get back on the winning track.
A very close game took place in Caceres between Al-Qazeres and Aros Leon. Third ranked Al-Qazeres (12-3) got a very close home victory over 4th placed Aros Leon (9-6). Al-Qazeres managed to escape with a 3-point win 63-60 on Saturday evening. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Aros Leon. Ndidi Madu stepped up with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 16 rebounds for the winners. Natalia Lopez responded with 22 points and 5 rebounds. Al-Qazeres have an impressive series of eight victories in a row. They used an opportunity after Cortegada lost their game and moved up joining them at the top position in Group A. Loser Aros Leon keeps the fourth place with six games lost. They share the position with Ensino. Al-Qazeres will meet Universidad de Valladolid (#9) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Aros Leon will play against the league's leader Cortegada (#1) in Vilagarcia Arousa and hope to secure a win.

Oviedo's next round opponent will be Real Celta Vigo (#8) at home. Universitario de Ferrol will play against Arxil Pontevedra (#11).
Very important is a road loss of third ranked Fundal Alcobendas (11-6) against ninth ranked Segle XXI (6-11) on Saturday night. Visiting Fundal Alcobendas was edged by Segle XXI in a tough game in Barcelona 51-54. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Fundal Alcobendas. The best player for the winners was Angela Salvadores who scored 25 points and 4 assists. Segle XXI's coach Ramon Jordana used an eleven-player rotation in such tough game. Segle XXI moved-up to eighth place in Group B, which they share with Las Gaunas and Leganes. Loser Fundal Alcobendas keeps the third position with six games lost. Segle XXI will face higher ranked ASEFA Estudiantes (#7) in Madrid in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Fundal Alcobendas will play at home against Real Canoe (#4) in Madrid and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Other games of round 17 were very predictable and ended without any surprises. Here they are:
In Group A Ourense P. was defeated by Arxil Pontev. in Pontevedra 52-47. Real C.Vigo was beaten by Ensino at home 80-85.
In Group B Leganes won against Las Gaunas on the opponent's court 63-49. Real Canoe managed to outperform Gernika in a home game 63-51. Las Rozas managed to beat Tenerife on the road 66-64. Casablanca crushed Pais Vasco on its own court 79-60.
The best stats of 17th round was 31 points and 11 rebounds by Mireia Navarrete of Ensino.


Group A
Oviedo - Ferrol 72-67

Very important is a road loss of second ranked Universitario de Ferrol (12-4) against sixth ranked Oviedo (8-8) on Saturday night. Visiting Universitario de Ferrol was defeated by Oviedo in a tough game in Oviedo 67-72. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Universitario de Ferrol. The hosts were tied after three quarters but managed to speed up in last quarter eventually winning the game. Oviedo forced 25 Universitario de Ferrol turnovers. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. Sara Fernandez Alvarez (-87) nailed 9 points and 10 rebounds for the winning side and Ines Orselli (-93) accounted for 13 points. American forward Kate Mills (185-86, college: Massachusetts) came up with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 11 rebounds and forward Raquel Asensio (178-83) added 13 points and 6 rebounds respectively for Universitario de Ferrol in the defeat. Four Universitario de Ferrol players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. The victory was the third consecutive win for Oviedo. They maintain sixth place in Group A with 8-8 record. Universitario de Ferrol at the other side dropped to the third position with four games lost. There was an upset when higher ranked Pabellon Ourense (6-10) was defeated on the road by eleventh ranked Arxil Pontevedra (1-15) 52-47 on Saturday. The hosts trailed by 5 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 6-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 52-47. The best player for the winners was Russian center Olga Fedorova (189-78) who scored 20 points and 9 rebounds. Natalia Soage (-80) chipped in 6 points and 7 rebounds. Arxil Pontevedra's coach Mayte Mendez used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Swingman Maria Bolonio (180-85) produced a double-double by scoring 13 points, 13 rebounds and 5 assists and guard Arantxa Mallou (181-91) added 15 points and 7 rebounds respectively for the guests. The hosts trailed by 8 points after three quarters before their 21-10 charge, which allowed them to win the game. They outrebounded Aros Leon 58-31 including a 27-5 advantage in offensive rebounds. Real C.Vigo - Ensino 80-85

No shocking result in a game when fifth ranked Maquinaria Ensino (9-6) defeated on the road 8th ranked Real Celta Vigo (6-10) 85-80 on Saturday. Real Celta Vigo trailed by 14 points after 3 quarters before a 28-19 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 80-85 at the end of the game. They outrebounded Real Celta Vigo 31-16 including 23 on the defensive glass. Real Celta Vigo was plagued by 33 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was the former international forward Mireia Navarrete (184-80) who had a double-double by scoring 31 points and 11 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field). Forward Nerea Mendez (180-87) chipped in 20 points and 7 rebounds (perfect from the field making all seven shots !!!). Guard Noelia Oliva (175-88) produced 27 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists and Cristina Loureiro (-94) added 15 points respectively for the hosts. Gernika was better in second period 21-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Gernika to just 6 points in first and third quarters. They outrebounded Gernika 49-27 including a 32-17 advantage in defensive rebounds. Las Rozas made 24-of-30 free shots (80.0 percent) during the game. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 22 assists. Center Mariana Gonzalez (187-88) orchestrated the victory by scoring 16 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists. Guard Elena De Alfredo (170-94) contributed with 17 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Five ASEFA Estudiantes players scored in double figures. ASEFA Estudiantes' coach Diego Rubio allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. point guard Ainara Ramasco (169-89) answered with 16 points, 5 assists and 5 steals (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) and Portuguese guard Carla Freitas (170-80) added 17 points in the effort for Orion-GDKO.
