An interesting game for Real Madrid (23-1) which played road game in Vitoria against second-best Caja Laboral (19-5). First ranked Real Madrid managed to get a 8-point victory 100-92. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Caja Laboral. The guests trailed by 4 points after three quarters before their 31-19 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Real Madrid made 24-of-27 free shots (88.9 percent) during the game. 24 personal fouls committed by Caja Laboral helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was a good game for American-Azerbaijani guard Jaycee Carroll (188-83, agency: Priority Sports) who led his team to a victory with 25 points. International Rudy Fernandez (198-85) contributed with 21 points and 4 assists (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line) for the winners. Real Madrid's coach Pablo Laso used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Serbian power forward Nemanja Bjelica (209-88, agency: Interperformances) replied with 19 points and 5 rebounds for Caja Laboral. Real Madrid have an impressive nine-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 23-1 record. Caja Laboral at the other side keeps the second place with five games lost. Real Madrid are looking forward to face CB Canarias (#13) in Tenerife in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Caja Laboral will play on the road against FIATC Joventut (#8) in Badalona and is hoping to prove to their fans that the loss was just an accident.
The game in Zaragoza was also worth to mention about. One of their biggest challengers G.Canaria 2014 (14-10) played at the court of seventh ranked CAI Zaragoza (14-10). CAI Zaragoza defeated G.Canaria 2014 69-53. Worth to mention a great performance of power forward Pablo Aguilar (203-89) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 12 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists and Henk Norel who added 14 points and 6 rebounds during the contest. The best for the losing side was American-Azerbaijani power forward Spencer Nelson (202-80, college: Utah St.) with 14 points and 6 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. CAI Zaragoza moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Valencia and G.Canaria 2014. CAI Zaragoza will play against higher ranked Regal FC Barcelona (#3) on the road in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. G.Canaria 2014 will play against Cajasol in Sevilla and hopes to get back on the winning track.
A very close game took place in Murcia between FIATC Joventut and UCAM Murcia. Ninth ranked FIATC Joventut (12-12) got a very close victory on the road over 12th ranked UCAM Murcia (10-14). FIATC Joventut managed to escape with a 1-point win 80-79 on Sunday evening. The winners were led by Jordi Trias who scored that evening 8 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists. FIATC Joventut's coach Salvador Maldonado allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. Even 22 points by Berni Rodriguez did not help to save the game for UCAM Murcia. FIATC Joventut moved-up to eighth place, which they share with 3 other teams. UCAM Murcia lost third consecutive game. They keep the twelfth position with 14 games lost. FIATC Joventut will meet at home league's second-placed Caja Laboral in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. UCAM Murcia will play against Lagun Aro GBC (#17) in San Sebastian and hope to secure a win.
The game between 18th ranked Assignia Manresa (4-20) and eleventh ranked Unicaja Malaga (12-12) in Manresa ended with biggest points difference. Guests from Malaga beat Assignia Manresa 80-63. The best player for the winners was Earl Calloway who scored 13 points and 6 rebounds. Both coaches tested many bench players saving starting five for next games. Unicaja Malaga have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to eighth place, which they share with 3 other teams. Assignia Manresa lost fifth consecutive game. They stay dead last with 20 lost games. Unicaja Malaga's next round opponent will be Baloncesto Fuenlabrada (#16) in Madrid and are hoping to win another game. Assignia Manresa will play on the road against Blancos de Rueda in Valladolid.
