The Regular Season in LF2 is slowly approaching the end. But there may be still some important changes in the final standings in the last 3 rounds. The round was rather attractive and full of interesting results. The round ended with derby games and favorites losing the games.

The game between third ranked Leganes (17-6) and sixth ranked Rivas Promete (13-10) was the most important one in the last round on Saturday night. Leganes was defeated by Rivas Promete in Leganes 76-62. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Leganes. The game was mostly controlled by Rivas Promete. Leganes managed to win third quarter 21-13. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The best player for the winners was Lithuanian power forward Dovile Miliauskaite (187-89, college: Towson) who had a double-double by scoring 20 points and 18 rebounds. Forward Marta Blanes (184-77) chipped in 10 points and 8 rebounds. Guard Marta Perez (177-94) produced 22 points for the hosts. Leganes' coach rotated ten players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Rivas Promete maintains sixth place in Group B with 13-10 record, which they share with Antiguo Boscos and Adareva. Leganes at the other side dropped to the fourth position with six games lost. Rivas Promete is looking forward to face Antiguo Boscos (#8) in Zaragoza in the next round. Leganes will play on the road against the league's leader C.Adelantados (#1) in San Cristobal and is hoping to win this game.
Leader Aros Leon delivered the twentieth victory. This time they crushed 7th ranked Barcelona (11-12) 76-47. Power forward Itsaso Conde (185-96) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 25 points and 11 rebounds. Patricia Benet contributed with 10 points for the winners. Aros Leon's coach felt very confident using entire bench and allowed the starting five to rest. Miriam Ferreri (-93) answered with 14 points and 7 rebounds for Barcelona. Aros Leon maintains first place in Group A with 20-3 record. Barcelona lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the seventh position with 12 games lost. Aros Leon will play against Ponce Valladolid (#14) on the road in the next round which should be another easy win for them. Barcelona's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Barcelona Segle XXI.
Leader C.Adelantados recorded the nineteenth victory on Saturday night. This time they crushed 10th ranked Batalyaws (7-16) 74-46. It was a great evening for Veronica Matoso who led her team to a victory scoring 15 points. Maria Cruz responded with 12 points. C.Adelantados have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain first place in Group B with 19-6 record. Newly promoted Batalyaws keeps the tenth position with 16 games lost. C.Adelantados will meet at home Leganes (#4) in the next round. Batalyaws will play against Valencia (#13) and hope to secure a win.
We should mention about the upset which took place in Barcelona, where higher ranked Arxil Pontevedra (13-10) lost to tenth ranked Segle XXI (10-13) in a road game 67-77. It was an exceptional evening for Silvia Serrat who led the winners and scored 19 points. Segle XXI's coach allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Segle XXI moved-up to eighth place in Group A, which they share with RC Celta. Arxil Pontevedra at the other side keeps the fifth position with ten games lost. Segle XXI's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Barcelona to the arena Barcelona.
Another exciting game was a derby match between two local teams from Madrid: ASEFA Estudiantes (#4) and Olimpico 64 (#14). ASEFA Estudiantes (18-5) crushed visiting Olimpico 64 (3-20) by 22 points 61-39. The best player for the winners was Linda Rubene who had a double-double by scoring 16 points and 11 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. ASEFA Estudiantes have an impressive series of eleven victories in a row. They moved-up to second place in Group B, which they share with Alcobendas. Olimpico 64 lost third consecutive game. They keep the fourteenth position with 20 games lost. ASEFA Estudiantes will face Promete (#9) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Olimpico 64 will play against Adareva (#7) and hope to win that game.

Other games of round 23 were quite predictable and ended without any surprises. Here they are:
In Group A Ensino was defeated by Sant Adria in Sant Adria de Besos 79-63. Azkoitia beat ADBA at home 74-66. RC Celta lost to Cortegada on the opponent's court 68-72. GDKO Bizkaia outscored Valladolid in a home game 72-51. Oviedo recorded a loss to Joventut LC on the road 81-69.
In Group B Alcobendas crushed Promete on its own court 87-58. IF Air Europa was smashed by Antiguo Boscos in Zaragoza 89-66. Picken Claret lost to Distrito Olimpico at home 60-68. Valencia unfortunately lost to Adareva on the opponent's court 70-79.
The best stats of 23th round was 24 points and 4 assists by Paula Palomares of Alcobendas.

Group A
Segle XXI - Arxil Pontev. 77-67

We should mention about the upset which took place in Barcelona, where higher ranked Arxil Pontevedra (13-10) lost to tenth ranked Segle XXI (10-13) in a road game 67-77. It looked good early as Arxil Pontevedra took a 3-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Segle XXI had a 21-8 second period charge getting the lead and Arxil Pontevedra was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 67-77. They outrebounded Arxil Pontevedra 39-26 including 27 on the defensive glass. It was an exceptional evening for guard Silvia Serrat (183-99) who led the winners and scored 19 points. Carolina Mateo accounted for 15 points and 5 rebounds for the winning side. Segle XXI's coach allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Mali center Minata Keita (190-89) came up with a double-double by scoring 27 points and 10 rebounds and Arantxa Mallou (181-91) added 15 points and 6 rebounds respectively for Arxil Pontevedra in the defeat. Sant Adria - Ensino 79-63

There was no surprise in Sant Adria de Besos where 9th ranked Maquinaria Ensino (9-14) was defeated by second ranked Sant Adria (18-5) 79-63 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Sant Adria. Maquinaria Ensino was better in second period 21-19. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Sant Adria dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Maquinaria Ensino's 26. Sant Adria forced 21 Maquinaria Ensino turnovers. The best player for the winners was Laura Pena who scored 11 points and 6 rebounds. Center Olga Ruano (191-88) chipped in 12 points and 5 rebounds. Four Sant Adria players scored in double figures. Sant Adria's coach used entire bench and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Guard Alba Prieto (180-99) produced 23 points and guard Tamara Montero (168-94) added 13 points respectively for the guests. Sant Adria have an impressive series of six victories in a row. They maintain second place in Group A with 18-5 record having just two points less than leader Aros Leon. Loser Maquinaria Ensino dropped to the tenth position with 14 games lost. Sant Adria will face ADBA (#13) in Aviles in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Maquinaria Ensino will play at home against Oviedo and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 17-10. But ADBA won second period 25-19. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Azkoitia won last quarter 19-12. They made 20-of-23 free shots (87.0 percent) during the game. Azkoitia outrebounded ADBA 41-30 including 32 on the defensive glass. The best player for the winners was American guard Chloe Wells (173-92, college: Duke) who scored 27 points, 5 rebounds, 6 assists and 6 steals (was perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line !!!). Her fellow American import forward Laura Johnson (182-91, college: Sioux Falls) chipped in a double-double by scoring 16 points and 14 rebounds. Azkoitia's coach used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Sara Sanchez (173-93) produced 18 points and French forward Rudiane Eduardo (185-93, college: UTEP) added 13 points and 9 rebounds respectively for the guests. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Azkoitia moved-up to eleventh place in Group A. Loser ADBA keeps the thirteenth position with 16 games lost. Azkoitia will face higher ranked Arxil Pontevedra (#6) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. ADBA will play against the league's second-placed Sant Adria (#2) and will have a slim chance for a victory.

However just four-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Swingman Salome Garcia (175-92) chipped in 16 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Four Cortegada players scored in double figures.
