Both U18 and U16 National Teams claimed the second spots at the Baltic Sea Basketball Cup in Estonia.
Swedish U16 team won two out of three games played. They opened the campaign with a comfortable 79:60 win over Estonia. Jonathan Person (190-G-93) and Marcus Eriksson scored 22 points apiece to lead Sweden.
Latvia outscored Sweden on the second day of the tournament. Swedish team led by 6 points at halftime but wasted the lead and fell short 61:63 at the end.

Marcus Eriksson netted 12 points for the Scandinavian team. But Swedish U16 team finished the tourney on a high note as they edged Finland 65:53. Jonathan Person stepped up with 22 points and 13 boards for the winners. Swedish U18 team also registered two victories in Tallinn. They tipped off the action with a 74:71 victory over Estonia. Christopher Czerapovich netted 22 points and collected 10 rebounds, while Andreas Person (188-G-91) added 18 points in the win. The winning attitude continued in the second round as Sweden bruised Latvia 68:62. Andreas Person notched 14 points and Daniel Persson (198-G-91) managed 13 points in the winning case. But Sweden failed to triumph at the tourney as they were narrowly defeated by Finland in the final game 71:75. Christopher Czerapovich tallied 16 points and 11 rebounds in defeat.

Some teams got a xmas present this year. Boras that has gone out and signed a new coach in Lars Ekstrom (agency: Edge Sports) from Finland. Anders Jonsson will stay on as an assistan coach and work closly with Lars Ekstrom . Ekstrom has had early success in Finland where he was voted coach of the year in the Finish league 2004 and 2007. He is coming in with the intention to get Boras to the playoffs this season.

Another addition was made to the Sundsvall Dragons who has had it rough this season. Last years finals, has been struggling but moved from last place with two wins right before the xmas break. To continue the trend of winning they have brought in versitaile forward Liam Rush (203-F/G-82) from Australien. Rush is from Australia but has an Irish passport. He is being brought in to play mainly at the 2-3 position as he is known for his outside shot. Coach Peter Okvist is thinking he will be able to give them some help as well at the 4 position in the Swedish League.

Pekka Salminen is still going strong in Stockholm (Solna Vikings, # 1 right now) and Lars Ekstrom (agency: Edge Sports) will start his international coaching career in Boras beginning of January 2009. Boras Basket with record 5-12 (# 10) has informed, that Anders Jonsson will step aside and help Ekstrom as an assistant coach in the future.
