First games of the Basketligan Quarterfinals are completed yesterday. Home teams had no mercy for the guests taking 1-0 lead in the series. The format is best-of-five and second games will start today. They will be completed on March 27.



Sodertalje - Solna 86-82 (1-0)
The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Solna Vikings won third quarter 20-19. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. 24 personal fouls committed by Solna Vikings helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Worth to mention a great performance of American point guard Johnell Smith (185-80, college: New Orleans, agency: Global Sports Plaza) who helped to win the game recording 26 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists. His fellow American import center Kenneth Simms (203-86, college: Cumberland, agency: JEMsports) contributed with a double-double by scoring 27 points, 12 rebounds and 5 blocks for the winners. American swingman Jonte Flowers (196-85, college: Winona St., agency: Warren Sports International) answered with 21 points and 5 rebounds and the former international forward Lesli Myrthil (200-77, college: Wagner) added 13 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists in the effort for Solna Vikings. Four Solna Vikings players scored in double figures. Solna Vikings' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help.

The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But LF Basket won third quarter 21-18. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Icelandic power forward Hlynur Baeringsson (200-82) nailed 16 points and 6 rebounds for the winning side and Icelandic guard Jakob Sigurdarson (192-82, college: Birm.Southern) accounted for 19 points. American-German center Urule Igbavboa (205-87, college: Valparaiso) came up with 18 points and 8 rebounds and international guard Andreas Person (190-91) added 14 points respectively for LF Basket in the defeat. Five Sundsvall Dragons and four LF Basket players scored in double figures.

The hosts trailed by 12 points after first quarter, but they stormed back and won the game by 17 points. Boras Basket dominated on the defensive end, holding Uppsala Basket to just 4 points in fourth quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Uppsala Basket's 28 and made 20-of-23 free shots (87.0 percent) during the game. Boras Basket forced 20 Uppsala Basket turnovers. American-Israeli guard Jason Thomas (191-82, college: American, agency: Gross Zeev ISA) nailed a double-double by scoring 19 points and 12 rebounds for the winning side and the former international center Michael Palm (208-79, college: W.Washington, agency: R.H.Consultancy) accounted for 14 points and 7 rebounds. Five Boras Basket players scored in double figures. Australian point guard Rhys Carter (190-84) came up with 16 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists and American power forward Delvon Johnson (206-89, college: Arkansas, agency: Priority Sports) added 6 points and 17 rebounds respectively for Uppsala Basket in the defeat. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games.

They outrebounded 08 Stockholm 38-26 including 26 on the defensive glass. American-British forward Oladapo Ayuba (198-86, college: UMKC) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 13 points and 15 rebounds for the winners and international guard Anton Saks (200-89) chipped in 21 points. Norrkoping Dolphins' coach Paul Burke allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. At the losing side the former international center Johan Akesson (210-84, agency: Warren Sports International) responded with 12 points and 7 rebounds and guard Nils Hedstrom (190-83) scored 14 points.
