Jeffery Taylor selected the top Swedish players playing abroad in last week's games - Dec 23, 2012

  follow us on Facebook Twitter

We bring you last week's top performances from Swedish players who are playing abroad and who all have had prior experience of national team duties at youth or senior level.

Jeffery Taylor
Jeffery Taylor
#1. This week's number one is former U20 international forward Jeffery Taylor (200-89, college: Vanderbilt, currently plays in NBA), who plays in the NBA. Taylor could not help the Charlotte Bobcats (7-20) in their last game on Wednesday. Despite his good performance the Charlotte Bobcats were badly defeated 121-104 on the road by the Phoenix Suns. Taylor scored 10 points and grabbed 4 rebounds. But this is still an early stage of the season and everything may happen. It's Taylor's first year with the team. This season he averages: 6.8ppg, 2.6rpg, 2FGP: 42.1%, 3FGP: 30.6% and FT: 81.1%. Taylor is a naturalized American. He played for the Swedish U20 national team four years ago. Strangely Taylor has never played in Sweden.

Thomas Massamba
Thomas Massamba
#2. Second place goes to an international point guard Thomas Massamba (185-85, currently plays in Bulgaria). He contributed to an easy victory against the league outsider U20 (0-10) crushing them 96-63 in a derby game in the Bulgarian NBL on Saturday night. Massamba scored 8 points, had 6 boards, passed 10 assists and added 5 steals in 29 minutes. Lukoil Academik Sofia (9-1) is placed first in the NBL. Massamba is ranked seventh on the list of the best passers in the league with 4.2apg. This year his other stats are: 4.9ppg, 3.2rpg, 2FGP: 57.9%(11-19), 3FGP: 30.8% and FT: 78.9% in the 10 games he played so far. Massamba is in the roster of the Swedish senior national team.

Chris Czerapowicz
Chris Czerapowicz
#3. The Swedish player who performed third best last week abroad was U20 international guard Chris Czerapowicz (201-91, currently plays college basketball in the States). Czerapowicz led Davidson to an easy victory against the Univ. of N.Carolina-Wilmington 77-61 in the NCAA last Saturday. He recorded 14 points and grabbed 5 rebounds in 28 minutes. The Davidson College has 2-0 conference record this season. This year Czerapowicz's overall stats are: 5.6ppg, 3.0rpg, 2FGP: 52.4% in the nine games. He played for the Swedish U20 national team one years ago.

Jonas Jerebko
Jonas Jerebko
#4. Power forward Jonas Jerebko (206-87, currently plays in NBA) managed to help Detroit Pistons to win against the Washington Wizards (3-22) crushing them 100-68 in the NBA on Friday night. Jerebko recorded only 3 points and grabbed 4 rebounds. The Detroit Pistons have rather weak 9-21 record this season. Jerebko has been at the team for four years. His total stats this year are: 5.6ppg and 3.0rpg. Jerebko is a naturalized American. He is also Swedish national team player. Apparently Jerebko has never played in Sweden.

Joakim Kjellbom
Joakim Kjellbom
#5. An experienced international center Joakim Kjellbom (213-79, college: N.Arizona, currently plays in Georgia) led Armia to an easy victory against the sixth-ranked Dinamo Tbilisi (6-4) 100-81 in a derby game in the Georgian Superleague in Saturday night's game. He scored 12 points, had 5 rebounds and made 3 blocks in a mere 16 minutes. BC Armia Tbilisi (8-2) is placed first in the Superleague. It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row. The Regular Season already ended. Kjellbom is ranked third on the list of the best blockers in the league with 1.3bpg. He also averaged so far 8.9ppg and 5.3rpg in the 10 games. Kjellbom plays currently for the Swedish national team.

Kenny Grant
Kenny Grant
#6. Guard Kenny Grant (188-82, college: Davidson, currently plays in France) contributed to an easy victory against the closely-ranked STB Le Havre (5-7) 98-81 in the French ProA last Saturday. He scored 10 points. Sluc Nancy Basket Pro (5-7) is placed tenth in the ProA. Grant's total stats this season are: 2.9ppg and 1.1apg. He is an international player who is currently on the senior Swedish National Team roster.

Sebastian Norman
Sebastian Norman
#7. U20 international forward Sebastian Norman (206-92, currently studies in the States) was not able to help the Lamar in their game against the University of Texas-Pan American (0-0) in the NCAA. He cannot count Saturday's game as one of the best ones. Norman recorded only 3 points in 6 minutes on the court. The Lamar lost 70-75 in Edinburg, TX to the University of Texas-Pan American. Norman has individually a very good year with high stats. He averages: 21.7ppg, 4.7rpg, 1.3apg and 1.3spg in the 12 games. Norman is also Swedish U20 national team player.

The list of other players, who all have Swedish passport but never been selected to any of Swedish national teams:

#1. Maciej Lampe (211-F/C-85, currently plays in Spain) led Caja Laboral to a victory over the 11th-ranked Blancos de Rueda (6-7) crushing them 93-71 in the Spanish ACB in Wednesday night's game. He was MVP of the game. Lampe recorded 19 points and grabbed 7 rebounds in 22 minutes. Caja Laboral Vitoria (10-3) is placed second in the ACB. It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row. Lampe has relatively good stats this year: 11.4ppg and 5.0rpg in the 13 games he played so far. He has a dual citizenship: Polish and Swedish.

#2. Experienced Aleksandar Damjanovic (206-C/F-73, currently plays in Cyprus) contributed to an easy victory against the closely-ranked Apollon (4-5) 94-78 in the Cypriot Division A in Friday night's game. He scored 16 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. Keravnos Strovolou (5-2) is placed second in the Division A. Damjanovic's overall stats this season are: 5.6ppg and 3.0rpg. He is another player who holds two passports: Swedish and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

#3. Challe Barton (190-G, currently plays college basketball in the States) managed to help Oregon State University in a victory against the Chicago State University 87-77 in the NCAA on Sunday night. Barton scored 5 points and added 6 passes in 27 minutes. The Oregon State University has conference record this season. This year Barton's total stats are: 2.9ppg and 1.1apg in the 12 games.

#4. Elias Westerlund (197-F-88, currently plays in Norway) was the major contributor in an Asker Aliens' victory against the closely-ranked Gimle BBK (7-12) 86-77 in the Norwegian BLNO in Saturday night's game. He scored 17 points and grabbed 7 rebounds. Asker Aliens BC (6-9) is placed second from the bottom (#6) in the BLNO. Westerlund belongs to league's top scorers and is ranked #3. He has individually a very good season with high stats. Westerlund averages: 21.7ppg, 4.7rpg, 1.3apg and 1.3spg.

Basketligan Round 4 of Regular Season - 19 hours ago

Basketligan Regular Season is still in too early stage and there may be still significant changes in the standings. The most interesting game of round 4 was a home defeat of 6th ranked Nassjo (2-2) to fifth ranked Sodertalje Kings (3-1) 73-67. It was a key game for the top position in the league. The guests started the game with a very strong first quarter 25-16. But Nassjo won third quarter 15-7. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Worth to mention...   [read more]
