Latvian U16 selection claimed the opening win at the Baltic Sea Basketball Cup in Tallinn. Dzeiks-Eduards Krumins (186-G-97) netted 18 points to lead Latvia to a tough win over Swedish counterparts. Latvia and Sweden are now tied at 1-1 record.
Latvia confidently opened the game. They grabbed a 20:14 lead after ten minutes. Sweden slowed their opponents down in the second quarter. The Scandinavian team erased the deficit and levelled things up at 32. Sweden pulled ahead in the third term. They grabbed a 5-point lead heading into the fourth frame. But Latvia held their counterparts to 10 points in the next period and sent the game into overtime. Latvia outgunned Sweden 15:5 in the extra frame to seal the winning outcome. Zigmars Raimo (190-PF-97) netted 17 points, while Renars Birkans (180-PG-97) delivered 14 points for the winners. Gustav Ericson (187-PG-97) answered with 10 points for Sweden. Theodore Silveira (192-SF-97), Craig Lecesne (196-PG-97) and Gustav Malmstrom (197-PF-97) had 8 points each in the loss.

Guard Sami Harun (192-G-98) had a very impressive game in the last round for second-ranked KFUM Fryshuset, receiving a Eurobasket.com Basketettan Player of the Week award for round 5 (Second Stage). The 18-year old player was the main contributor (34 points, two rebounds and seven assists) to his team's victory, helping them to beat KFUM Blackeberg (#4, 3-4) 93-82. Defending champion BC Prievidza (SBL) landed 31-year old American (has also Swedish passport) point guard Omar Krayem (186-87kg-86, college: Cal.Baptist). He played in the summer at Globalport in Filipino PBA league. Krayem managed to play in three leagues last year (!!!). First he played at Boras Basket in Swedish Basketligan where in 27 games he averaged impressive 16.0ppg, 4.4rpg, 6.2apg and 1.6spg. Krayem helped them to make it to the semifinals.
