Fribourg clinched LNA title. They overcame Helios for the second straight home victory and claimed 3-1 victory in the championship series. Celeste Trahan (184-C-85, agency: LBM Management, college: Elizabeth City) came up with another pivotal performance as she tallied 41 points and 18 rebounds for the winners. Fribourg got in charge in the first frame. They recorded a 20:17 lead after ten minutes. The hosts maintained the pressure in the second stanza. They ensured a 39:30 halftime advantage. The teams traded baskets throughout the third term. Fribourg were able to keep a 9-point lead as they entered the final period. Helios tried hard in the final period to change things around but scored just 15 points and came up short at the end. Angelina Williams (183-F-83, college: Illinois) provided 15 points and 11 rebounds for Fribourg. Jalinka Michaux (175-F-87) and Maria Villarroel (174-G-78, agency: LBM Management, college: Oklahoma) answered with 21 points each for Helios. Djenebou Sissoko had 12 points and 15 rebounds in the loss.

Maria Villarroel leads Sdent Helios to Swiss Cup title - Mar 21, 2011

Sdent Helios clinched the second trophy this season. After claiming the League Cup title they repeated the success in the Swiss Cup. Maria Villarroel (174-G-78, agency: LBM Management, college: Oklahoma) scored 35 points to lead Helios past Fribourg in the Final at Halle St. Leonard.
Fribourg got to the better start. Led by Celeste Trahan (184-C-85, agency: LBM Management, college: Elizabeth City) they established a 26:20 lead after ten minutes. But the second term turned things around. Helios outgunned their opponents 21:12 and posted a 41:38 halftime lead. Helios continued to dominate after the halftime break. They entered the final period up by 9 points and never looked back en route to the victory in the fourth stanza. Djenebou Sissoko (190-F/C-82, college: Union (TN)) provided 15 points for Helios. Sarah Kershaw (180-F/C-85) finished with 11 points in the victory. Celeste Trahan answered with 34 points for Fribourg. Lisa Mazzocchi (170-G/F-90) and Lara Thalmann (172-G-88) accounted for 11 points each in defeat.

Helios celebrate League Cup trophy - Feb 7, 2011

Helios clinched the League Cup title. They outgunned Riva Basket in the Final yesterday. Maria Villarroel (174-G-78, agency: LBM Management, college: Oklahoma) came up with impressive 36 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists to lead Helios to the triumph.
Helios did not waste too much time as they surged ahead right from the start. The team unloaded 30 points in the first period to earn a comfortable 13-point lead at the break. Riva Basket however reacted adequately as they stopped the bleeding and started to claw their way back into the contest. Led by Traci Edwards (188-F/C-87, agency: LBM Management, college: Wisc.-Milwaukee) Riva cut the deficit at 11-point mark at the interval. Helios stepped on the gas once again after the main break. They enlarged the margin to enjoy an 18-point buffer with one quarter remaining. Helios did not slow down in the fourth frame and rallied to the victory at the end. Djenebou Sissoko (190-F/C-82, college: Union (TN)) provided 26 points and 13 rebounds for Helios. Caroline Turin (173-F-87) finished with 8 points, 7 assists and 4 rebounds in the win. Traci Edwards answered with 30 points and 12 rebounds for Riva Basket. Brittany Wilkins (191-F/C-83, agency: LBM Management, college: Iowa St.) had 15 points in the losing case.
