LNA Round 25: Monthey beats Fribourg in the most crucial game of the week - Mar 20, 2012

There are only two more rounds left in the Regular Season in LNA.

An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Fribourg. Second ranked Monthey faced 4th placed Fribourg. Guests from Monthey (17-5) defeated host Fribourg (15-7) 82-71. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Fribourg. The game was mostly controlled by Monthey. Fribourg managed to win fourth quarter 21-10. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. American swingman Ian Boylan (197-83, college: CS Northridge) fired a double-double by scoring 14 points and 11 rebounds for the winners. His fellow American import center Sean Finn (212-82, college: Dayton) chipped in 15 points and 9 rebounds. Monthey's coach Petar Aleksic used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American guard Kenny Thomas (191-87, college: Radford) produced 18 points (made all of his eight free throws) for lost side. Monthey have an impressive series of seven victories in a row. They maintain second place with 17-5 record having just two points less than leader Lugano Tigers. Fribourg at the other side keeps the fourth position with seven games lost. Monthey are looking forward to face league's leader Lugano Tigers on the road in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Fribourg will play against SAM Massagno and is hoping to prove to their supporters that the loss was just an accident.
Leader Lugano Tigers delivered the nineteenth victory. This time they crushed 6th ranked Starwings (9-14) 111-57 in Basel. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Starwings. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international guard Dusan Mladjan (199-86, agency: Interperformances) who helped to win the game recording 25 points and 9 rebounds. Zarko Rakocevic contributed with 23 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Bahamas forward Jaraun Burrows (203-85, college: IPFW, agency: Warren Sports International) answered with 14 points for Starwings. Starwings' coach Danijel Eric gave up on the game allowing to play twelve players seeing no chance for a win. Defending champion maintains first place with 19-3 record. Starwings at the other side keep the sixth position with 14 games lost. Lugano Tigers will play against league's second-placed Monthey at home in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Starwings will play against SAV Vacallo (#5) in Chiasso and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Babacar Toure stepped up with a double-double by scoring 25 points, 14 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 steals (on 11-of-14 shooting from the field) for the winners. At the losing side Travele Jones responded with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 11 rebounds. SAM Massagno's coach Milutin Nikolic already knew that his team would not have a big chance, so allowed to play eleven players seeing no chance for a win. Geneve Lions maintains third place with 17-6 record having just one points less than leader Lugano Tigers. SAM Massagno lost their third game in a row. They keep the eighth position with 19 games lost. Geneve Lions will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. SAM Massagno will play against Fribourg (#4) and hope to secure a win.

In the last game of round 25 Boncourt was defeated by SAV Vacallo in Chiasso 72-65.

They dominated down low during the game scoring 72 of its points in the paint compared to Starwings' 36. Lugano Tigers forced 19 Starwings turnovers and outrebounded them 48-25 including a 20-9 advantage in offensive rebounds. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international guard Dusan Mladjan (199-86, agency: Interperformances) who helped to win the game recording 25 points and 9 rebounds. Montenegrin forward Zarko Rakocevic (204-84) contributed with 23 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Four Lugano Tigers players scored in double figures. The game in Massagno supposed to be also quite interesting. Third ranked Geneve Lions (17-6) played at the court of 8th ranked SAM Massagno (3-19). Geneve Lions smashed SAM Massagno 100-54 on Sunday. The game without a history. Geneve Lions led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated on the defensive end, holding SAM Massagno to just 7 points in third quarter. Geneve Lions dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to SAM Massagno's 28. Geneve Lions forced 19 SAM Massagno turnovers and outrebounded them 40-27 including 27 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 32 assists comparing to just 7 passes made by SAM Massagno's players. There was no surprise in Chiasso where 7th ranked Boncourt (6-16) was defeated by fifth ranked SAV Vacallo (12-10) 72-65 on Saturday. Boncourt was trailing by 6 points at halftime but managed to get 1-point lead after three quarters before a 25-17 charge of SAV Vacallo, which allowed them to win the game. SAV Vacallo outrebounded Boncourt 45-28 including 30 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. American guard Rickey Gibson (191-84, college: Stillman) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 11 points, 11 rebounds, 9 assists and 4 steals for the winners and Lithuanian forward Rokas Uzas (202-88) chipped in 21 points and 5 rebounds. Four SAV Vacallo players scored in double figures. At the losing side Serbian-Bosnian center Nemanja Calasan (203-85, college: Purdue) responded with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 10 rebounds and Ivorian forward Ismael N'Diaye (197-82, college: FIU) scored 14 points and 9 rebounds.
