LNA Round 7: Change at the top of the standings - Nov 19, 2012

The fans could enjoy quite many interesting games in the last round. The round ended with change at the leadership position, favorites losing the games, games ending by tiny margin and even winless team recording their first victory.

LNA round 7 caused change at the leadership position. Second defeat of league's leader SAV Vacallo (5-2) against fifth ranked Monthey (5-2) 63-56 was the most important game of the last round. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of SAV Vacallo. It was a key game for the second position in the league. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But SAV Vacallo won fourth quarter 19-16. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Worth to mention a great performance of Serbian-Bosnian guard Feliks Kojadinovic (197-79) who helped to win the game recording 11 points, 5 rebounds, 7 assists and 4 steals. International Jonathan Dubas (202-91) contributed with 13 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Serbian forward Ivan Kuburovic (203-81) answered with 16 points and 8 rebounds for SAV Vacallo. Monthey have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Geneve Lions and SAV Vacallo. SAV Vacallo will play next round against SAM Massagno trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Monthey will try to continue on its current victory against seventh ranked Neuchatel at home.
The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Fribourg as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Fribourg defeated 6th ranked Boncourt at home 76-68. It was a great evening for American-Jamaican forward Ronald Yates (201-83, college: St.Peter's) who led his team to a victory scoring 20 points. Edwin Draughan helped adding 16 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. At the losing side American swingman Shy Ely (194-87, college: Evansville, agency: Merit Sports) responded with 17 points and 5 rebounds. Fribourg (6-1) have an impressive series of five victories in a row. As mentioned above they took over a top position. Boncourt lost third consecutive game. They keep the sixth place with four games lost. They share the position with Neuchatel. Boncourt will play next round against Starwings trying to get back on the winning streak. Fribourg will try to continue on its current victory against fifth ranked Lugano Tigers on the road.
A very close game took place in Geneve between Geneve Lions and Lugano Tigers. Third ranked Geneve Lions (5-2) got a very close home victory over 4th placed Lugano Tigers (4-3). Geneve Lions managed to escape with a 3-point win 76-73 on Saturday evening. It was a key game for the second position in the league. It was an exceptional evening for Andrej Stimac who led the winners and scored 13 points and 6 rebounds. Geneve Lions' coach Ivan Rudez used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Dusan Mladjan came up with 27 points and 4 assists (made all of his eight free throws) for Lugano Tigers in the defeat. Geneve Lions moved-up to second place, which they share with Monthey and SAV Vacallo. Defending champion Lugano Tigers dropped to the fifth position with three games lost. Geneve Lions will meet at home BBC Nyon (#8) in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Lugano Tigers will play against the league's leader Fribourg and hope to secure a win.
Starwings' fans can finally celebrate the first win of their team after six consecutive loses. The victory is especially important as it came on the road game in Massagno, where they outplayed SAM Massagno (1-6) 100-77. It was the only win of guest team this round and in all other games host teams recorded victories. Starwings left bottom position moving up to ninth place, which they share with defeated SAM Massagno. It was SAM Massagno's third loss in a row. Starwings' next round opponent will be higher ranked Boncourt (#6) on the road and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
The game in Neuchatel was also quite interesting. 7th ranked BBC Nyon (2-5) played at the court of eighth ranked Neuchatel (3-4). Neuchatel defeated BBC Nyon 67-57 on Saturday. Neuchatel - BBC Nyon 67-57

The game in Neuchatel was also quite interesting. 7th ranked BBC Nyon (2-5) played at the court of eighth ranked Neuchatel (3-4). Neuchatel defeated BBC Nyon 67-57 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Neuchatel. BBC Nyon was better in third quarter 23-12. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Neuchatel won last quarter 19-10. It was a very good performance for American guard Ray Reese (196-87, college: Tulsa) who helped to win the game recording 17 points and 7 rebounds. Naturalized Senegalese power forward Pape Badji (206-92) contributed with 8 points and 13 rebounds for the winners. Four Neuchatel players scored in double figures. Neuchatel's coach Arnaud Ricoux allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. American forward Justin Rutty (200-89, college: Quinnipiac) answered with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 19 rebounds and Canadian forward Jean-Richard Volcy (203-82, college: N.Michigan) added 19 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for BBC Nyon. Neuchatel moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Boncourt. BBC Nyon at the other side dropped to the eighth position with five games lost. Neuchatel will face higher ranked Monthey (#4) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. BBC Nyon will play against the league's second-placed Geneve Lions (#2).

The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Fribourg as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Fribourg defeated 6th ranked Boncourt at home 76-68. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 25-11. But Boncourt won second period 19-16. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Fribourg dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Boncourt's 32. It was a great evening for American-Jamaican forward Ronald Yates (201-83, college: St.Peter's) who led his team to a victory scoring 20 points. American swingman Edwin Draughan (196-82, college: Yale) helped adding 16 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. A very close game took place in Geneve between Geneve Lions and Lugano Tigers. Third ranked Geneve Lions (5-2) got a very close home victory over 4th placed Lugano Tigers (4-3). Geneve Lions managed to escape with a 3-point win 76-73 on Saturday evening. It was a key game for the second position in the league. The hosts trailed by 6 points after three quarters before their 21-12 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Geneve Lions made 17-of-22 free shots (77.3 percent) during the game. It was an exceptional evening for Croatian power forward Andrej Stimac (204-79) who led the winners and scored 13 points and 6 rebounds. American power forward Juwann James (198-87, college: JMU, agency: Pro Partner Sports Management) accounted for 14 points for the winning side.
