American power forward Hakeem Rollins (202-F/C-83, agency: Dream Team Management) put on an extraordinary performance in the last round for SAV Vacallo, receiving a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 8. The 29-year old player had a double-double of 16 points and 10 rebounds, while his team outclassed SAM Massagno (#9, 1-7) with 26-point margin 90-64. SAV Vacallo maintains the 3rd position in Swiss LNA. They would have been even better if they did not have these two lost games earlier in Regular Season. SAV Vacallo will need more victories to improve their 6-2 record. Rollins turned to be SAV Vacallo's top player in his first season with the team.
The second best player in last round's games was 23-year old American Justin Rutty (200-F-89) of BBC Nyon. Rutty had a very good evening with a double-double of 24 points and 11 rebounds. Bad luck as BBC Nyon lost that game 66-86 to the higher-ranked Geneve Lions (#2, 6-2). BBC Nyon is still second from the bottom in the standings. 6 lost games are too many comparing to just two victories BBC Nyon managed to get this year. Rutty is a newcomer at BBC Nyon, but is already one of team's top players. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 21.8ppg (#2). He also registered 12.4 boards per game.
Third on the list of top players last round was Bahamas forward Jaraun Burrows (203-F-85, agency: Warren Sports International) of Starwings (#10). Burrows scored 21 points and grabbed ten rebounds. Despite Burrows' great performance Starwings lost 75-86 to the higher-ranked Boncourt (#6, 4-4). But his team cannot count on just a single player as he also needs help of the other teammates. Starwings can only dream about fighting for top spots in the league. They have extremely bad season and 1-7 record places them at the very bottom of the standings. Too bad for Burrows he does not play for a better team. But maybe if he did, his season stats would not be that high. Burrows has individually a great season in Switzerland. After only 5 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 17.0ppg (9th best) and rebounds with 9.4rpg (3rd best).
Other top performing players last week: 4. Korvotney Barber (201-F-87) of Lugano Tigers - 18 points, 14 rebounds and 4 assists 5. Brandon Jenkins (190-G-85) of Starwings - 21 points, 3 rebounds and 7 assists 6. Christian DiGiuliomaria (209-C/F-79) of Lugano Tigers - 20 points and 3 rebounds 7. Ivan Kuburovic (203-F-81) of SAV Vacallo - 22 points, 5 rebounds and 2 assists 8. Andrej Stimac (204-F/C-79) of Geneve Lions - 18 points, 8 rebounds and 3 assists 9. Shy Ely (194-G/F-87) of Boncourt - 17 points, 2 rebounds and 6 assists 10. Edwin Draughan (196-G/F-82) of Fribourg - 26 points, 7 rebounds and 3 assists
The Player of the week is choosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc. The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy. The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3*(REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4*(2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3*(2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3*(3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
