LNA Round 12: SAV Vacallo defeats Geneve Lions in the closest game of the week - Dec 17, 2012

The most exciting game of round 12 in the LNA took place in Geneve. This derby game ended with only one-point home defeat of second-best Geneve Lions (9-3) to fourth ranked SAV Vacallo (9-3) 83-82 in the game for the second place. It ended at the same time the six-game winning streak of Geneve Lions. Geneve Lions were trailing by 11 points at halftime but managed to get 5-point lead after three quarters before a 21-15 charge of SAV Vacallo, which allowed them to win the game. They made 27-of-29 free shots (93.1 percent) during the game, while Geneve Lions only scored nine points from the stripe. 25 personal fouls committed by Geneve Lions helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Worth to mention a great performance of American guard Rickey Gibson (191-G-84, college: Stillman) who helped to win the game recording 24 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists and Serbian forward Ivan Kuburovic (203-81) who added 23 points and 6 rebounds during the contest. The best for the losing side was American guard Tony Brown (193-79, college: Arkansas St.) with 21 points and 4 assists. Geneve Lions' coach Ivan Rudez rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. SAV Vacallo moved-up to second place, which they share with defeated Geneve Lions. SAV Vacallo is looking forward to face Boncourt (#6) at home in the next round. Geneve Lions will play against Monthey (#4) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Very important is a road loss of third ranked Monthey (8-4) against fifth ranked Lugano Tigers (7-5) on Sunday night. Visiting Monthey was defeated by Lugano Tigers in Lugano 75-64. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Monthey. The winners were led by American forward Korvotney Barber (201-87, college: Auburn, agency: Pro One Sports) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 21 points and 14 rebounds and Branko Milisavljevic supported him with 14 points and 11 assists. Even 22 points and 8 rebounds by Bosnian forward Adnan Hodzic (203-88, college: Lipscomb, agency: Pro One Sports) did not help to save the game for Monthey. Defending champion maintains fifth position with 7-5 record. Monthey at the other side dropped to the fourth place with four games lost. Lugano Tigers will play against Neuchatel (#7) on the road in the next round. Monthey will play against Geneve Lions and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

LNA top team - Fribourg (11-1) added another victory to their record. This time they beat ninth ranked SAM Massagno (2-10) 80-75. Americans were the main players on the court. It was a good game for Arizona Reid who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 15 points, 13 rebounds and 4 assists. Fribourg have an impressive ten-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 11-1 record. SAM Massagno at the other side dropped to the bottom place with ten games lost. Fribourg's next round opponent will be Starwings (#8) in Basel and are hoping to win another game. SAM Massagno will play on the road against BBC Nyon and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
The game in Neuchatel was also quite interesting. 6th ranked Boncourt (5-7) played at the court of seventh ranked Neuchatel (4-8). Neuchatel did not have too big problems and got a relatively easy victory 70-53 on Sunday. Worth to mention a great performance of Jules Aw who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 16 points and 11 rebounds. Boncourt's coach Antoine Petitjean tested ten players seeing no chance for a win. Newly promoted Neuchatel maintains seventh position with 4-8 record. Boncourt lost third consecutive game. They keep the sixth place with seven games lost. Neuchatel will face higher ranked Lugano Tigers (#5) at home in the next round and it may be quite challenging game.


Starwings - BBC Nyon 107-82

Bottom-ranked Starwings managed to get the second consecutive victory on Sunday night. This time they outleveled eighth-ranked BBC Nyon in Basel 107-82. It's especially surprising that the victory came too easily and 25-point difference suggests that Starwings is in a good shape to leave the bottom place. The game without a history. Starwings led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. Starwings outrebounded BBC Nyon 39-27 including 27 on the defensive glass. They shot the lights out from three sinking 14 long-distance shots on high 58.3 percentage. Starwings looked well-organized offensively handing out 32 assists comparing to just 13 passes made by BBC Nyon's players. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Starwings made 12 blocks. The best player for the winners was Bahamas forward Jaraun Burrows (203-85, college: IPFW, agency: Warren Sports International) who had a double-double by scoring 21 points, 14 rebounds and 7 assists. American power forward Justin Dobbins (203-87, college: E.Michigan, agency: Pro Partner Sports Management) chipped in 23 points, 6 rebounds and 7 blocks. At the other side the best for losing team was American swingman Marvin Owens (196-86, college: Northwood) who recorded 32 points and his fellow American import forward Justin Rutty (200-89, college: Quinnipiac) added 22 points and 6 rebounds respectively. Five Starwings and four BBC Nyon players scored in double figures. Starwings (3-9) moved-up to eighth place. BBC Nyon lost seventh consecutive game. The game in Neuchatel was also quite interesting. 6th ranked Boncourt (5-7) played at the court of seventh ranked Neuchatel (4-8). Neuchatel did not have too big problems and got a relatively easy victory 70-53 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Neuchatel. Boncourt was better in second period 16-13. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Boncourt was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. Worth to mention a great performance of naturalized Senegalese forward Jules Aw (200-86) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 16 points and 11 rebounds and American guard Ray Reese (196-87, college: Tulsa) who added 11 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists during the contest. Four Neuchatel players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was American swingman Shy Ely (194-87, college: Evansville, agency: Merit Sports) with 18 points and 4 steals and international Nicolas Dos Santos (201-87) scored 4 points and 9 rebounds. Villars Basket (LNB) strengthened their roster with addition of 25-year old power forward Ludovic De Gottrau (194-91). It is actually his comeback to Villars as he has played here before. De Gottrau played recently at Fribourg Olympic (LNA). LNB will be definitely a better match and he can see more playing time. He helped them to win the Supercup. American Chris Jones (188-G-93) put on an extraordinary performance in the last round for Starwings and that's him to receive a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 8. The 23-year old guard had the game-high 24 points adding six rebounds and six assists for Starwings in his team's victory, helping them to beat Lugano Tigers (#10, 3-5) 64-56. Lugano Tigers U23 signs Kendyl Grover - 5 days ago

Lugano Tigers U23 (LNB) signed American forward Kendyl Grover (203). He just graduated from Adams St. College (NCAA2). He played 22 games where he had 11.5ppg, 7.0rpg and 1.0apg last season. As mentioned above Grover is just out of the college and it will be his first season as a pro. He played at the RMAC Tournament Semifinals in 2015.
