Thabo Sefolosha selected the top Swiss players playing abroad in last week's games - Dec 23, 2012

We bring you last week's top performances from Swiss players who are playing abroad and who all have had prior experience of national team duties at youth or senior level.


Thabo Sefolosha
Thabo Sefolosha
   #1. This week's number one is an international guard Thabo Sefolosha (199-84, agency: ACMT, currently plays in NBA). He contributed to an Oklahoma City Thunder's victory against the Atlanta Hawks (16-9) 100-92 in the NBA in Wednesday night's game. Sefolosha scored 9 points, grabbed 7 rebounds and made 2 blocks in 30 minutes on the court. The Oklahoma City Thunder has a very good 21-5 record this season. It was his team's 12th consecutive victory in a row. But this is still an early stage of the season and everything may happen. Sefolosha has relatively good stats this year: 7.2ppg, 4.4rpg, 1.5apg, 2FGP: 49.3%, 3FGP: 41.3% and FT: 86.4% in the 26 games he played so far. He played for the Swiss senior national team one years ago.

Clint N'Dumba-Capela
   #2. Second place goes to U18 international forward Clint N'Dumba-Capela (204-94, currently plays in France). N'Dumba-Capela managed to help ES Chalon-Sur-Saone to win against the 11th-ranked Limoges CSP Elite (3-10) 83-77 in the French ProA last Saturday. He scored only 4 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. ES Chalon-Sur-Saone (8-4) is placed first in the ProA. This season N'Dumba-Capela averages: 2.2ppg, 2.2rpg, 2FGP: 62.5% and FT: 12.5%. He played for the Swiss U18 national team in 2011.

David Ramseier

   #3. The Swiss player who performed third best last week abroad was an international power forward David Ramseier (203-87, currently plays in France), who plays in the French ProA. Ramseier could not help Boulazac Basket (4-8) in their last game. Despite his good performance Boulazac Basket lost 80-92 on the road to the much higher-ranked (#3) Gravelines-Dunkerque. Ramseier was the second best scorer with 12 points in a mere 19 minutes. This year Ramseier's overall stats are: 6.6ppg, 3.0rpg, 2FGP: 55.6%(20-36) and FT: 42.9% in the seven games. He has a dual citizenship: Swiss and French. Ex-Chorale de Roanne Basket (ProA) U20 team -Geneva Devils player is also a member of the Swiss senior national team.

Christophe Varidel
Christophe Varidel
   #4. Guard Christophe Varidel (188-89, currently plays college basketball in the States) led Florida Gulf Coast to an easy victory against the Southeastern University (2-0) crushing them 86-60 in the NCAA last Tuesday. He recorded 11 points in 21 minutes. The Florida Gulf Coast University has conference record this season. This year Varidel's total stats are: 6.6ppg and 3.0rpg in the seven games. He used to play for the Swiss national team back in 2010.


One more player who has never been selected to any of national teams, but has Swiss passport:

   #1. Michael Kessens (206-F-91, currently plays college basketball in the States), who plays in the NCAA could not help the Longwood to beat the Canisius College (2-0). Kessens scored 9 points and grabbed 7 rebounds. But the Longwood was crushed 82-54 on the road by the Canisius College. Kessens' total stats this season are: 6.6ppg and 3.0rpg.

Etrusca Basket San Miniato (Serie B) strengthened their roster with addition of 21-year old naturalized Swiss small forward Olivier Giacomelli (198-95, agency: Players Group) from Valsesia Basket. In 38 Serie B games he recorded 6.2ppg, 2.1rpg and 1.0apg last season. He helped them to make it to the group semifinals. Starwings Basket Regio Basel (LNA) re-signed 23-year old forward Philippe Sager (197-93). He played there last season. But in 30 LNA games he averaged just 1.8ppg and 1.6rpg. The previous (14-15) season Sager played at BC Alte Kanti Aarau (LNB) where in 25 games he had 4.4ppg, 5.7rpg and 1.2spg. Fuchs re-signs at Starwings - 12 hours ago

Starwings Basket Regio Basel (LNA) confirmed in their roster 27-year old ex-international point guard Joel Fuchs (189-89). He has played there for the last eight seasons. In 30 LNA games he had 11.2ppg, 2.7rpg, 2.1apg and 1.1spg last season. Fuchs' team made it to the Swiss Cup Final Four in 2014.
