LNA Round 16: Neuchatel beats BBC Nyon by two after a very close game - Jan 28, 2013

Eighth-ranked BBC Nyon (3-13) used its home court advantage to challenge sixth ranked Neuchatel (8-8) on Saturday. The visitors from Neuchatel managed to secure only two-point victory 77-75. However their fans expected easier game. BBC Nyon was tied after three quarters but could not keep up in the last quarter eventually losing the game. Worth to mention a great performance of naturalized Senegalese forward Jules Aw (200-86) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 17 points and 14 rebounds. American power forward Thomas Coleman (205-88, college: N.Carolina A&T) contributed with 12 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. American forward Justin Rutty (200-89, college: Quinnipiac) replied with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 11 rebounds for BBC Nyon. Neuchatel have an impressive five-game winning streak. Newly promoted Neuchatel maintains sixth position with 8-8 record. BBC Nyon lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the ninth place with 13 games lost. They share the position with SAM Massagno. Neuchatel are looking forward to face higher ranked Monthey (#4) at home in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. BBC Nyon will play against the league's second-placed Geneve Lions (#2) and is hoping to prove to their fans that they can break losing series.
Very important is a road loss of third ranked Monthey (10-6) against fourth ranked SAV Vacallo (11-5) on Saturday night. Visiting Monthey was defeated by SAV Vacallo in Chiasso 90-76. At the losing side Bosnian forward Adnan Hodzic (203-88, college: Lipscomb, agency: Pro One Sports) responded with 16 points and 5 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field). SAV Vacallo moved-up to third place. Monthey at the other side dropped to the fourth position with six games lost. SAV Vacallo will play against bottom-ranked SAM Massagno (#10) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Monthey will play against Neuchatel (#6) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

LNA top team - Fribourg (14-2) managed to deliver another win. This time they beat seventh ranked Boncourt (6-10) 84-75. Arizona Reid fired a double-double by scoring 32 points, 15 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Fribourg maintains first position with 14-2 record. Boncourt lost third consecutive game. They keep the seventh place with ten games lost. Fribourg's next round opponent will be Lugano Tigers (#5) at home. Boncourt will play against Starwings in Basel and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
The game in Lugano was also quite interesting. Second ranked Geneve Lions (12-4) played at the court of 5th ranked Lugano Tigers (9-7). Geneve Lions managed to secure a 5-point victory 87-82 on Saturday. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Lugano Tigers. It was a very good performance for Andrej Stimac who helped to win the game recording 18 points and 5 rebounds. Geneve Lions' coach Ivan Rudez used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Geneve Lions have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 12-4 record having just two points less than leader Fribourg. Defending champion Lugano Tigers keep the fifth place with seven games lost. Geneve Lions will face BBC Nyon (#9) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Lugano Tigers will play against the league's leader Fribourg (#1).



SAV Vacallo - Monthey 90-76

Very important is a road loss of third ranked Monthey (10-6) against fourth ranked SAV Vacallo (11-5) on Saturday night. Visiting Monthey was defeated by SAV Vacallo in Chiasso 90-76. Monthey was ahead by 11 points at the halftime before a 55-30 second half run of SAV Vacallo. They made 20-of-23 charity shots (87.0 percent) during the game. They also forced 19 Monthey turnovers. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 28 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of American power forward Matt Schneiderman (204-81, college: N.Iowa) who helped to win the game recording 24 points and 5 assists (made all of his eight free throws) and the other American import guard Larry O'Bannon (194-83, college: Louisville, agency: Interperformances) who added 22 points and 5 rebounds (made all of his seven free throws) during the contest. Bottom-ranked Starwings managed to get a fourth victory, breaking the three-game losing streak on Saturday night. This time they won against ninth-ranked SAM Massagno in Basel 83-74. SAM Massagno trailed by 16 points after 3 quarters before a 28-21 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 74-83 at the end of the game. They outrebounded SAM Massagno 44-28 including a 31-20 advantage in defensive rebounds. American players dominated the game. The winners were led by guard Brandon Jenkins (190-85, college: Louisville) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 17 points, 7 rebounds and 10 assists and power forward Justin Dobbins (203-87, college: E.Michigan, agency: Pro Partner Sports Management) supported him with 22 points and 11 rebounds (made all of his eight free throws). Villars Basket (LNB) strengthened their roster with addition of 22-year old American forward Bobby Hain (208-109kg-94). Hain just graduated from Youngstown State University (NCAA).
