What up everybody?! I know it's been a while since I last blogged, but this summer has been really busy. As I go to the gym here in Houston and talk with my guys, all I hear is how stressful the summer has been looking for a place to play for this season coming up. Its mid August and there are so many guys who don't have jobs right now. It's a lot of guys are feeling like Cuba Gooding Jr, and want their agents to show them the money! But what players have to realize is that it isn't the agents' fault, the market is the worst it's ever been! I know guys hate hearing that, but it's the truth. And another problem that players have is they don't have their game film online! They leave their future and livelihood in the hands of their agents, and that may be fine, if you make 20 or 30k a month, but most of the guys reading this don't make that, and need to have a better hold of their career. The fact of the matter is, most agents have more than just 2 or 3 clients, so they are essentially trying to get jobs for all of their guys, but there's only 24 hours in a day. It's impossible for 1 agent to spend an equal amount of time on all of his guys. So what I suggest guys to do is get their game film online, if your agent has it on his site perfect, as long as you have access to the site. But there are jobs out there but guys who don't have film online, or just have their dvd's can't get seen by teams and scouts. Nobody sends sends DVD's in the mail anymore, so that's out, and its way too expensive to mail out dvd's overseas to these teams. Another thing I might add is no European coach wants to see a 5 minute Youtube highlight link with Rick Ross' B.M.F playing in the background. THEY WANT TO SEE FULL GAMES. Theballerspot.com is a place where you can send your game links to this site and it uploads FULL GAMES, and adds a pic and bio for you. Moral of the story, in times like these, you need an edge, and that's getting your game film online.
GET YOUR GAME DVD's ONLINE FOR TEAMS & COACHES TO SEE!- Jun.16, 2010 (by Marcus)
The summer is always a great time for guys who play overseas! You're back home, you get to hang out with friends, and most importantly, go to 'Jack in the Box' after you leave the club!! On the other hand the summer is also the time where guys don't have any income coming in, and blow through their money faster than Usain Bolt in the 100m! Summertime is also when guys are waiting on that call from their agent on what's going on for next season[read more]

On the other hand the summer is also the time where guys don't have any income coming in, and blow through their money faster than Usain Bolt in the 100m! Summertime is also when guys are waiting on that call from their agent on what's going on for next season. This is probably the most stressful part of the summer as most guys have no clue, and the players who just finished college and are looking to play overseas, stress out even more. Many guys don't know where to start in the whole 'getting overseas' process, and the ones that do, usually don't have any of their game dvd's for the agent's to show new teams for next season. This next season will be my 5th year playing in Europe and Ive seen so many guys not get jobs because they can't find their game dvd's or more importantly, they can't get them online for people to see them! No one mails dvd's to overseas anymore, it takes way too long to get there, if they even make to the final destination! So, I wanted to let players, and agents a like know that if anyone is interested in getting game film online, I have a solution! I'm just trying to give back to guys, because I know how it is to have to worry and stress about finding a gig overseas. So again, if any players/coaches or agents want to get game dvd/film online, please email me at BIGSLOAN32@GMAIL.COM.

I know what you did last summer!!- May.7, 2010 (by Marcus)
As the season winds down, many players, coaches, teams, are already looking forward to next season. As the season winds down, many players, coaches, teams, are already looking forward to next season. Even though the 'countdown' for most guys is less than a month away, you always would rather know where you're going next season. It makes for a stress free summer, and guys don't have to penny pinch all summer, not knowing when or where they may be going. But the worst part of not having an idea of where your going to play next season, is having people ask you EVERY SINGLE DAY, 'Hey, where you goin next season?' Some guys had to wait all summer to find a team, and many signed out of desperation! And I've been hearing that market will be just as a bad as it was this past season! There were so many players who've had successful careers overseas, who found themselves without a job this year. We're talking about guys who had NBA experience on their resumes, still waiting on a call from their agents. And the excuse all summer was, 'the market is bad'! Well for all of you guys who fired your agent, because you thought he was full of it, or wasn't doing his job, it wasn't the agent's fault, blame it on Bush, uhhhh I mean the 'Economy'! (Did I say Bush out loud?!)
I guess you could say the economic crisis of the world has even shifted to the professional basketball landscape this season. Many players made less money this year than they ever have! Teams have fewer sponsors, and even fewer fans, and like I said earlier, several good players are still home, waiting for that call to come play overseas, knowing it may never come due to the poor basketball market. Some guys decided they weren't going to take less money, and it cost them a whole season, but the way I figure, if you made 10k a month last season, and team offered you 7k, 7+7+7 is a lot more than ZERO!! Because some guys wouldn't take less money, many teams in Europe played without imports this season. Some of them didn't even want to spend money on domestic players, but stack their rosters with juniors and cheap second rate players. Needless to say that these teams dont really belong on the highest level, but they are allowed there anyway because there is no alternative.
So what is going on? Sure, there is a crisis and there is much less money than last season. No one saw it coming but most players are now ready to accept a lesser salary than normal. But that is only a small detail, I think the real problem is that teams have so little money that they no longer can afford to have 12 professional players on the roster, so they now only have 6 or 7. The other spots are filled up with junior players and amateurs who dont get any salary but do get an apartment or car. This means that there were 40-60% less available jobs! In addition, for those jobs that were available teams are payed much less than they did last year.
Players and their agents are trying to adapt to this new situation by lowering their salary demands, but that just makes the problems bigger and their chance of getting a job smaller! It is a typical phenomenon in the economy and it is called consumer strike. It basically means that when the prices are dropping, then the consumers are not going to buy anything. Why should they buy anything today when they know that it will be even cheaper tomorrow or next week? As a result, they dont buy anything and just wait till the prices drop further and further, and the US Dollar is starting to get weaker and weaker because of the economy. To make matters worst the weak US dollar makes American players cheaper and more attractive for European teams. Many European teams tried to save a month salary by not signing import players in August/September but rather in October/November. There are signs that Europe is starting to recover from the crisis. For some teams, that could mean additional sponsors during the season and an additional demand for players. The scary fact about the crisis is that no one can predict when it will be over! But I know what I won't be doing this summer, and that's waiting... So the first good offer I receive, I'm taking it!
Thanks for letting me bore you guys again this week! Follow me on Twitter @Bigsloan32, and help support a good cause http://www.shoot2scorehoops.com!
