LNB Round 14: Vevey beat Meyrin Basket in the most crucial game of the week - Jan 29, 2017

An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Vevey. Second ranked Vevey faced 3rd ranked Meyrin Basket. Host Vevey (11-3) smashed guests from Geneve (9-5) 80-51. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Meyrin Basket. The hosts trailed by 5 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 11-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 80-51. Vevey dominated on the defensive end, holding Meyrin Basket to just 7 points in second quarter. Vevey keeps a position of league leader, which they share with BBC Nyon. Meyrin Basket at the other side keeps the third place with five games lost. They share the position with Pully.
Leader BBC Nyon delivered the eleventh victory. This time they beat 5th ranked Villars (8-6) 79-69. BBC Nyon (11-3) have an impressive seven-game winning streak. They maintain first position, which they share with Vevey. Villars at the other side keep the fifth place with six games lost.
Bottom-ranked Lug.Tigers U23 (0-14) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 69-51 loss to seventh ranked Academie Fribourg (4-10) in Fribourg on Sunday evening. Academie Fribourg moved-up to sixth place, which they share with GC Zurich. Loser Lug.Tigers U23 still closes the standings with 14 games lost.

In the last game of round 14 GC Zurich was defeated by Pully in a road game 75-58.

Acad.Fribourg - Lug.Tigers U23 69-51

Bottom-ranked Lug.Tigers U23 (0-14) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 69-51 loss to seventh ranked Academie Fribourg (4-10) in Fribourg on Sunday evening. The game was mostly controlled by Academie Fribourg. Lug.Tigers U23 managed to win second period 20-18. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Lug.Tigers U23 to just 5 points in first quarter. Academie Fribourg moved-up to sixth place, which they share with GC Zurich. Loser Lug.Tigers U23 still closes the standings with 14 games lost.

Pully - GC Zurich 75-58

There was no surprise when 6th ranked GC Zurich (4-10) was defeated on the road by fourth ranked Pully (9-5) 75-58 on Saturday. The hosts trailed by 1 point at the halftime before their 47-29 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Pully have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to third place, which they share with Meyrin Basket. GC Zurich lost fifth consecutive game. They keep the sixth position with ten games lost. They share it with Acad.Fribourg.

Villars - BBC Nyon 69-79

Leader BBC Nyon delivered the eleventh victory. This time they beat 5th ranked Villars (8-6) 79-69. The game was mostly controlled by BBC Nyon. Villars was better in second period 17-13. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when BBC Nyon won last quarter 26-18. BBC Nyon (11-3) have an impressive seven-game winning streak. They maintain first position, which they share with Vevey. Villars at the other side keep the fifth place with six games lost.

Union Neuchatel Basket (LNA) signed 25-year old Dominican guard Bryan Colon (181-92). It is actually his comeback to Neuchatel as he has played here before. Colon played this summer at Indios de San Francisco in LNB league in Dominican Republic. But in only one game he did not score anything. The last season Colon played at Union Neuchatel Basket where in 29 LNA games he had 4.9ppg, 1.3rpg and 1.0apg. He helped them to make it to the Supercup final. Lions de Geneve announced the new head coach. Vedran Bosnic , after eight season as head coach of Sodertalje Kings, moves to Switzerland. He signs with Ginevra Lions.
