The Greek guests dealt a fatal 9-24 blow to Fener in the first period and cruised to victory. Curtis Jerrells led Ulker with 12 points, Roko Ukic added 11 and Kaya Peker scored 10 for the hosts.
Mike Batiste got Panathinaikos going in the first minute. Kaya Peker responded, but Ulkers offense struggled after that and Bastiste and Kostas Kaimakoglou supplied the guests with 0-13 run. After 7 minutes of play, Roko Ukic broke the silence for Fenerbahce with a pair of three throws: 4-15. Back to back three-points by Kaimakoglou increased the Greek lead to 9-24after 10 minutes.
Panathinaikos was the first team to score again in the second quarter, answered by a basket by Curtis Jerrells. After 15 minutes of playing time, a layup-plus-foul by Ian Vougioukas made it a 19-point game, the biggest margin of the game. Fenerbahce looked to turn things around with a three-pointer by Engin Atsur and a lau up by Kaya Peker, 18-32, but Panathinaikos closed ranks. Kaya Peker's basket put the halftime score on the board: 22-36.
The third period was kicked off with a Greek score again, but Roko Ukic replied and James Gist added a three-pointer: 27-38 after 23 minutes. Curtis Jerrells brought Fenerbahce back to 34-45 after 25 minutes, but a free throw foursome by Panathinaikos gave the guests some breathing space. Kaimakoglou restored a 41-55 Panathinaikos margin with a three-pointer, and moments later a score from downtown by Dimitris Diamantidis fixed the score at 43-58 at the third period buzzer.
Oguz Savas opened the score for Fenerbahce in the fourth period, followed by a lay up by James Gist, 47-58, but Panathinaikos once again replied well and increased the lead again to 47-64 after 34 minutes. After a Fener time out, Ukic, Turkcan and again Ukic gave Ulker some hope: 54-66 with 3 minutes to go. Another three-pointer by Kaimakoglou and a fast break layup by David Logan sealed the Fenerbahce's fate, 56-71 with 2 minutes left. The hosts surrendered, and Panathinaikos cruised to a 56-77 victory.
Next week, Fenerbahce will travel to Greece for revenge, needing a win to keep the Euroleague dream alive.
