Smith came to Bornova last season after Kedrick Brown's serious knee injury, played 10 games and averaged 18.6 points, 6.1 rebounds and 4.4 assists. After a problematic period at University of Tennessee on senior year, Bornova phrase helped Smith to put his name in the radar of NBA teams, but he did not hear his name at draft night. Despite numerous offers in Europe, Smith decided to come back to Bornova where he had good experience both on and off the court. After Michael Roll and Zvonko Buljan, Smith will fill the third foreigner spot in the team as Izmir side will close the transfer campaign by adding a center due to sources around the club.

Turkey opened the third frame with 7-0 run and Can Korkmaz (187-G-92) reduced to 41:38. Dario Saric later increased the lead to 52:42, while Samet Geyik (206-F-93) closed the third stanza at 57:51. Muhammed Baygul (191-G-92) kept the intrigue at 59:55 as the player made two free throws. Barac again scored for Croatoa to bring back 10-point advantage. Again Muhammed Baygul scored for 72:69 and Can Korkmaz made it 74:72 with 2 minutes in the game. The teams exchanged the baskets again as Muhammed Baygul brought 80:77. Stefan Zadravec made last two free throws in the game for the final success. Toni Katic collected 21 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists. Stefan Zadravec netted 19, while Dario Saric added 14. Muhammed Baygul responded with 19 points in the losing effort as Turkey fell at 1-4. Samet Geyik nailed 15, whilst Can Korkmaz scored 13.
