Lance Williams (206-C-80, college: De Paul) Banvit Basketbol Kulubu
Ugur TURKER : This is your 5th season in Turkey and your 4th season in Banvit. What is your feeling about Turkey and Turkish people ?
Lance Williams : Of course, i like turkey and turkish people, there is a great atmosphere around us. We have a great coach, and all players live like a family in the club, that is main reason behind our success.
U.T : In your first two seasons, you were the most important player of the team, but last two seasons your minutes shortened and numbers down. What is your comment ?
L.W: I think, we have been better team last two years. Every player are sharing minutes and our rotation is in very good shape. All players are playing avr. 20 25 min. That is why we are winnig more games. Besides, it is good for my leg and knee since i am 31. Of course, i respect every decision taken by coach whether i play 5 or 30 min. since we keep winning more games and being at the top of the league, it is the important thing for me.
U.T: There is law that if players play three consecutive year in Turkey and spent two of them in same club, they gain to have Turkish Citizenship and as you know, having TC affects game time, rotation, clubs etc.. And your teammate and friend Keith Simmons (196-G-85, agency: Interperformances, college: Holy Cross) is playing as Turkish player status in TBL. What is your thought about this rule ? Do you want to use your right ?
L.W: Up to now, nobody came to me and as about it. If my team will be stronger, our rotation will get deeper, i can use my right. Keith Simmons situation is better for the team and i do not have any problem.
U.T: For next season, if there will be offer from other team which ask you to gain TC , what will your reaction be ?
L.W: Right now, my main aim is to finish regular season in best position in TBL and get be ready for Play-offs. I just focus on this season and to win championship since we have great opportunity that we never had.
U.T: How do you evaluate your chances to win championship ? Because you are second position in TBL and have home court advantage against Efes Pilsen, most probable opponents of you in Semi Finals.
L.W: We have chances like other play off teams which have goals to reach Championship. Main thing is to focus on every games and try to harder and harder to do it better. I think most focused team will win.
U.T: Last week, i had phone call with your coach, Orhun Ene . He said that we are playing in our limits and if we give up to play harder, others can beat us. What do you want to say ?
L.W: I agree with my coach %100. If we do not play as a team in defense or offense, we can lose any team. Main thing is staying focuced for whole season.
U.T: At the beginning of the season, Banvit loaned some young players to Bandrma Krmz. Have you followed their development since you know them well from last years ?
L.W: They found a chance to show what their potentials are and they gain more experience than here because they played more. Next year, i think they will be important part of our rotation.
U.T: Lets come to names; What about Safak Edge (188-PG-92) who is one of the most promising playmaker of Turkey, is he able to reach level of Kerem Tunceri (190-G-79), most important playmaker of our history ?
L.W: He is very talanted, fast and hard worker, if he keeps to train hard, he has big future on him. Kenan Sipahi (192-PG-95) is also very important young talent for Turkish Basketball.
U.T : Thank you Lance, see you in finals, in Istanbul..
L.W: Inallah ( hopefully ) ...
