Fenerbahce Ulker lost the first quarterfinal game in the Beko Basketball League playoffs. Besiktas Milangaz beat the defending champion in overtime with 96-94. Ulker had a small lead during most of the game, but foul trouble (37 personal fouls) haunted Fener in the end. Top scorer for Ulker was Omer Onan with 24 points, James Gist added 16, Roko-Leni Ukic 15.

James Gist opened the score for Fenerbahce in the first period. After 6-6 equality Besiktas managed to create a small gap, but at 14-11 Ulker closed ranks. Pops Mensah Bonsu and Baris Hersek remained effective for the home side, but lead by James Gist Fenerbahce caught up with the hosts and took the lead again. A basket by David Hawkins closed the first period with 25-25 equality.

In the first minutes of the second period the balance in scores initially continued. Scores by Bonsu and Serhat and a three-point score by Zoran Erceg pulled up the advantage for the hosts to to 5 points, 36-31. Ulker took a break, broke the silence with a score by Bojan Bogdanovic, caught up again and finished the first half with a 42-45 lead.

In the beginning of the third period both teams had troubles finding the basket. David Hawkins finally opened the score for Besiktas, and shortly after the home team balanced the scores again: 47-47. Neither team managed to create a substantial gap after that, and Omer Onan's basket had Fenerbahce Ulker completed the third period ahead with 59-60.

In the fourth period Fenerbahce took a a 59-63 lead. Besiktas closed in to 65-67 within 37 minutes. James Gist and Emir Preldzic remained effective in the last minutes of the period, but a three-point score by Carlos Arroyo put the home crowd on fire and the game to overtime: 81-81.

In the extension period both teams were offensively effective. After 2.5 minutes, the scores were still balanced: 86-86. In spite of growing foul trouble for Fenerbahce equal ongoing baskets took the scores to 94-94, but in the end Besiktas delivered the final blow and sent a disappointed Fenerbahce home with a 96-94 defeat.

On Wednesday, Fenerbahce will try to equalize the series to 1-1 at home.

BSL Round 15: Besiktas are defeated by Anadolu Efes in a derby game - 2 hours ago
BSL is at the halfway of the Regular Season and there are still another 15 rounds left. The most exciting game was a derby match between two local teams from Istanbul: Anadolu Efes (#2) and Besiktas (#3). Besiktas was defeated at home 83-93 and even the advantage of their own court did not help. Anadolu Efes looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. It was a great evening for American forward Derrick Brown (203-87, college: Xavier) who led his team to a victory scoring 1...   [read more]

Dendy's double-double lands him TBL Player of the Week award - 2 hours ago
28-year old center LaRon Dendy (205-C-88) had a great game in the last round for Duzce Bld. and receives a Eurobasket.com TBL Player of the Week award for round 19. He had a double-double of 29 points and 13 rebounds, while his team beat Akhisar Bld (#11, 8-11) 80-65. The game rather meaningless between the teams, which do not have any influence on top of the standings. Duzce Bld. maintains the 16th position in Turkish TBL. Too late to salvage the team, which is currently ranked such low....   [read more]
