After 5 rounds played we can already see who rules in the TBL and who belongs to weaker ones.

The most crucial game of the last round was the first loss of undefeated Fenerbahce Ulker (4-1) on the court of fourth ranked Karsiyaka on Sunday night. Visitors were defeated by Karsiyaka 72-66. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Fenerbahce Ulker. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 20-10. But Fenerbahce Ulker won second period 17-12. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Nigerian center Alade Aminu (210-87, college: Georgia Tech) stepped up and scored 18 points and 5 rebounds (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field) for the winners and American guard Jon Diebler (198-88, college: Ohio St.) chipped in 12 points and 7 rebounds. The former international guard Omer Onan (194-78) responded with 20 points (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Fenerbahce Ulker's coach rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Karsiyaka moved-up to second place, which they share with 3 other teams including defeated Fenerbahce Ulker. Karsiyaka is looking forward to face Gaziantep (#15) on the road in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Fenerbahce Ulker will play against Tofas (#10) in Bursa and is hoping to win this game.
Bottom-ranked Mersin (0-5) is still winless. But it was rather predictable considering how strong their opponent was. This time they lost on the road their fifth consecutive match to fifth ranked Banvit BK (4-1) 71-60. Dominican guard Sammy Mejia (198-83, college: De Paul) nailed a double-double by scoring 12 points, 11 rebounds and 7 assists for the winning side and Charles Davis accounted for 15 points. American forward Omar Sneed (198-76, college: Memphis) came up with a double-double by scoring 11 points and 13 rebounds for Mersin in the defeat. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Banvit BK have a solid series of four victories in a row. They moved-up to second place, which they share with 3 other teams. Mersin at the other side still closes the standings with five games lost. Banvit BK will play against Besiktas (#6) in Istanbul in the next round. Mersin will play on the road against Hacettepe (#8) in Ankara and hopes to get finally their first victory.
A very close game took place in Bursa between Turk Telekom and Tofas. Thirteenth ranked Turk Telekom (2-3) got a very close victory on the road over 10th ranked Tofas (2-3). Turk Telekom managed to escape with a 1-point win 67-66 in the game for the eighth place. The best player for the winners was Drago Pasalic who scored 15 points. Can Altintig produced 18 points for the hosts. Turk Telekom moved-up to eighth place, which they share with 4 other teams including defeated Tofas. Turk Telekom will meet at home league's second-placed Anadolu Efes in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Tofas will play against Fenerbahce Ulker (#4) in Istanbul and hope to secure a win.
Seventh ranked TED Kolejliler (3-2) crushed at home 9th ranked Hacettepe (2-3) by 24 points 84-60, which is the biggest margin this round. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Hacettepe. Nedim Yucel orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 15 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. TED Kolejliler moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Besiktas. Hacettepe at the other side dropped to the eighth position with three games lost. TED Kolejliler's next round opponent will be league's leader Galatasaray in Istanbul and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Hacettepe will play at home against Mersin (#16) in Akdeniz.

There were no shocking results in the rest of the games of round 5: Aliaga lost to Anadolu Efes on the opponent's court 67-83. Besiktas managed to outperform Gaziantep in a home game 83-69. Galatasaray rolled over Erdemir on the road 85-62. Olin Edirne defeated Antalya on its own court 83-65.

Anadolu Efes - Aliaga 83-67

Rather expected game in Istanbul where 8th ranked Aliaga (2-3) was defeated by fifth ranked Anadolu Efes (4-1) 83-67. It was a very close game until the last quarter, when Anadolu Efes's pressure prevailed and they won that period 19-7 extending their advantage to 16 points. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Aliaga to just 7 points in fourth quarter. Anadolu Efes players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. 24 personal fouls committed by Aliaga helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities.
