The biggest surprise of round 7 was guest Banvit BK's (6-1) road victory over 3rd placed Karsiyaka (5-2) 68-66 on Saturday evening. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Karsiyaka. It was a key game for the second position in the league. The guests were tied at the half but managed to speed up in last two quarters eventually winning the game. American guard Keith Simmons (196-85, college: Holy Cross, agency: Interperformances) fired a double-double by scoring 13 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. American-Azerbaijani center Charles Davis (205-84, college: Alabama) chipped in 11 points. Banvit BK's coach Orhun Ene used an eleven-player rotation in such tough game. American point guard Bobby Dixon (178-83, college: Troy, agency: Beo Basket) produced 25 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists for lost side. Banvit BK have an impressive series of six victories in a row. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Anadolu Efes and Fener.Ulker. Karsiyaka at the other side dropped to the fifth position with two games lost. Banvit BK is looking forward to face Tofas (#9) in Bursa in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Karsiyaka will play on the road against Hacettepe (#11) in Ankara and is hoping to win this game.
Undefeated leader Galatasaray delivered the seventh consecutive victory. This time they beat 16th ranked Mersin (1-6) 84-73 in Istanbul. Worth to mention a great performance of American guard David Hawkins (194-82, college: Temple) who helped to win the game recording 14 points and 6 assists. Ersin Dagli contributed with 10 points, 13 rebounds and 5 blocks for the winners. Galatasaray's coach Ergin Ataman allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Naturalized American forward Ali Karadeniz (203-80, college: Arizona) answered with 20 points and 9 rebounds for Mersin. The victory was the seventh consecutive win for Galatasaray. They maintain first place with 7-0 record. Mersin at the other side stay at the bottom position with six games lost. They share it with Gaziantep. Galatasaray will play against Besiktas (#6) in Istanbul in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Mersin will play on the road against Antalya (#14) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
A very close game took place in Bursa between Tofas and Gaziantep. Eleventh ranked Tofas (3-4) got a very close home victory over 15th ranked Gaziantep (1-6). Tofas managed to escape with a 1-point win 77-76 on Saturday evening. It was a great evening for Joshua Heytvelt who led his team to a victory scoring 19 points and 9 rebounds. At the losing side Charles Rhodes responded with 20 points and 8 rebounds. Tofas moved-up to seventh place, which they share with 3 other teams. Gaziantep lost their third game in a row. Newly promoted team keeps the fifteenth position with six games lost. They share it with Mersin. Tofas will meet higher ranked Banvit BK (#4) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Gaziantep will play against Fenerbahce Ulker (#3) in Istanbul.
We should mention about the upset which took place in Ankara, where higher ranked TED Kolejliler (3-4) lost at home to fourteenth ranked Antalya (2-5) 89-93. It was an exceptional evening for Jordan Theodore who led the winners and scored 20 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. TED Kolejliler's coach Ercument Sunter rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Antalya moved-up to eleventh place, which they share with 3 other teams. Newly promoted TED Kolejliler dropped to the seventh position with four games lost. Antalya's next round opponent will be bottom-ranked Mersin (#16) in Akdeniz which should be theoretically an easy game.

Other games of round 7 were quite predictable and ended without any surprises. Here they are:
Hacettepe was defeated by Besiktas in Istanbul 69-63. Olin Edirne was beaten by Anadolu Efes at home 66-72. Aliaga lost to Erdemir on the opponent's court 61-71.

Besiktas - Hacettepe 69-63

There was no surprise in Istanbul where 11th ranked Hacettepe (2-5) was defeated by sixth ranked Besiktas (4-3) 69-63 on Monday. However just six-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. The hosts trailed by 2 points after three quarters before their 21-13 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Bosnian-Croatian forward Damir Markota (209-85) fired a double-double by scoring 17 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. American guard Curtis Jerrells (185-87, college: Baylor) chipped in 18 points. American forward Michael Glover (200-87, college: Iona) produced 14 points and the former international center Huseyin Besok (212-75) added 7 points and 8 rebounds respectively for lost side. Four Hacettepe players scored in double figures. Hacettepe's coach Alp Bayramoglu tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Defending champion maintains sixth place with 4-3 record. Hacettepe lost their third game in a row. They keep the eleventh position with five games lost. Besiktas will face league's leader Galatasaray in Istanbul in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Hacettepe will play at home against Karsiyaka (#5).

There was a minor upset when higher ranked Aliaga (3-4) was defeated on the road by twelfth ranked Erdemir (3-4) 71-61 on Saturday. Aliaga was trailing by 3 points at halftime but managed to get 4-point lead after three quarters before a 21-7 charge of Erdemir, which allowed them to win the game. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Aliaga to just 7 points in fourth quarter. Aliaga was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. The game was dominated by American players. Tofas - Gaziantep 77-76

A very close game took place in Bursa between Tofas and Gaziantep. Eleventh ranked Tofas (3-4) got a very close home victory over 15th ranked Gaziantep (1-6). Tofas managed to escape with a 1-point win 77-76 on Saturday evening. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Gaziantep won third quarter 21-19. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. It was a great evening for American power forward Joshua Heytvelt (210-86, college: Gonzaga) who led his team to a victory scoring 19 points and 9 rebounds. American-Ukrainian guard Steven Burtt (185-84, college: Iona) helped adding 14 points and 7 assists. At the losing side American power forward Charles Rhodes (203-85, college: Mississippi St.) responded with 20 points and 8 rebounds and the former international power forward Mutlu Akpinar (203-83) scored 17 points. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Tofas moved-up to seventh place, which they share with 3 other teams. Gaziantep lost their third game in a row. Newly promoted team keeps the fifteenth position with six games lost. They share it with Mersin. Tofas will meet higher ranked Banvit BK (#4) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Gaziantep will play against Fenerbahce Ulker (#3) in Istanbul.

Galatasaray - Mersin 84-73

Undefeated leader Galatasaray delivered the seventh consecutive victory. This time they beat 16th ranked Mersin (1-6) 84-73 in Istanbul. The game was mostly controlled by Galatasaray. Mersin was better in third quarter 23-14. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Mersin 42-28 including 30 on the defensive glass. Worth to mention a great performance of American guard David Hawkins (194-82, college: Temple) who helped to win the game recording 14 points and 6 assists. Naturalized American power forward Ersin Dagli (203-81, college: Alabama, agency: Interperformances) contributed with a double-double by scoring 10 points, 13 rebounds and 5 blocks for the winners. Galatasaray's coach Ergin Ataman allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Naturalized American forward Ali Karadeniz (203-80, college: Arizona) answered with 20 points and 9 rebounds and American guard Willie Solomon (187-78, college: Clemson) added 15 points and 4 assists in the effort for Mersin. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. The victory was the seventh consecutive win for Galatasaray. They maintain first place with 7-0 record. Mersin at the other side stay at the bottom position with six games lost. They share it with Gaziantep. Galatasaray will play against Besiktas (#6) in Istanbul in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Mersin will play on the road against Antalya (#14) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

TED Kolejliler - Antalya 89-93

We should mention about the upset which took place in Ankara, where higher ranked TED Kolejliler (3-4) lost at home to fourteenth ranked Antalya (2-5) 89-93. TED Kolejliler was ahead by 5 points after three quarters before a 24-15 charge of Antalya, which allowed them to win the game. They made 19-of-22 charity shots (86.4 percent) during the game. It was a great shooting night for Antalya especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 55.6 percentage. It was an exceptional evening for American point guard Jordan Theodore (182-89, college: Seton Hall) who led the winners and scored 20 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. His fellow American import guard Ron Lewis (193-84, college: Ohio St.) accounted for 22 points for the winning side. Serbian center Jovo Stanojevic (208-77, agency: Beo Basket) came up with 25 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists (on 10-of-12 shooting from the field) and Serbian power forward Vanja Plisnic (207-80, agency: Beo Basket) added 11 points, 15 rebounds and 4 assists respectively for TED Kolejliler in the defeat. Five Antalya and four TED Kolejliler players scored in double figures. TED Kolejliler's coach Ercument Sunter rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Antalya moved-up to eleventh place, which they share with 3 other teams. Newly promoted TED Kolejliler dropped to the seventh position with four games lost. Antalya's next round opponent will be bottom-ranked Mersin (#16) in Akdeniz which should be theoretically an easy game.
