There was no lack of interesting games this round. The round ended with change at the leadership position and favorites losing the games.

There was a change at the TBL leadership position after last games. Round 9 most important game was a defeat of league's leader Galatasaray (8-1). They were edged by fifth ranked Karsiyaka (7-2) 72-69 on Saturday night. It ended at the same time the eight-game winning streak of Galatasaray. The hosts trailed by 7 points after three quarters before their 20-10 charge, which allowed them to win the game. American point guard Bobby Dixon (178-83, college: Troy, agency: Beo Basket) stepped up and scored 27 points and 7 rebounds for the winners and forward Bora Pacun (210-87) chipped in 12 points and 10 rebounds. The best for the losing side was international point guard Ender Arslan (190-83) with 20 points and 6 assists. Galatasaray's coach Ergin Ataman rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Karsiyaka moved-up to third place, which they share with Anadolu Efes and Banvit BK. Galatasaray at the other side still keeps top position with one game lost. They were joined at the leadership position by Fener.Ulker who have the same record. Galatasaray will play next round against Tofas trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Karsiyaka will try to continue on its current victory against fifteenth ranked Antalya on the road.
The game had a very big importance for third-ranked Fenerbahce Ulker as it allowed them to take a leadership position after previous leader's (Galatasaray) loss. Fenerbahce Ulker smashed 4th placed Banvit BK in Istanbul 89-69. It ended at the same time the seven-game winning streak of Banvit BK. It was a key game for the top position in the league. The former international guard Omer Onan (194-78) nailed 22 points (perfect from the field making all nine shots !!!) for the winning side and David Andersen accounted for 15 points (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field). Dominican guard Sammy Mejia (198-83, college: De Paul) came up with 18 points (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) for Banvit BK in the defeat. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Fenerbahce Ulker have a solid series of four victories in a row. As mentioned above they are at the top of the standings, which they share with Galatasaray. Banvit BK at the other side dropped to the third place with two games lost. They share the position with Anadolu Efes and Karsiyaka. Banvit BK will play next round against Gaziantep trying to get back on the winning streak. Fenerbahce Ulker will try to continue on its current victory against fourteenth ranked Hacettepe at Ankara.
Very important is a road loss of third ranked Anadolu Efes (7-2) against ninth ranked TED Kolejliler (4-5) on Monday night. Visiting Anadolu Efes was edged by TED Kolejliler in a tough game in Ankara 85-86. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Anadolu Efes. The best player for the winners was Kirk Penney who scored 25 points and 5 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was Jordan Farmar who recorded 19 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Anadolu Efes' coach Oktay Mahmudi tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. TED Kolejliler moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Tofas and Aliaga. Loser Anadolu Efes keeps the third position with two games lost. They share it with Karsiyaka and Banvit BK. TED Kolejliler will meet Olin Edirne (#10) on the road in the next round. Anadolu Efes will play against Mersin (#12) in Akdeniz and hope to secure a win.
Bottom-ranked Gaziantep managed to get a second victory, breaking the series of four consecutive loses. This time newly promoted Gaziantep won against ninth-ranked Turk Telekom 81-69. It was a good game for Isaiah Swann who led his team to a victory with 22 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. Gaziantep (2-7) moved-up to fourteenth place, which they share with Antalya and Hacettepe. Turk Telekom at the other side dropped to the tenth position with six games lost. Gaziantep's next round opponent will be higher ranked Banvit BK (#5) in Balikesir and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
An interesting game took place in Aliaga where higher ranked Aliaga (4-5) was upset on its own court by thirteenth ranked Mersin (3-6) 82-73 on Sunday. Ali Karadeniz stepped up with a double-double by scoring 30 points and 12 rebounds for the winners. Aliaga's coach Burak Biyiktay let to play ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Mersin moved-up to tenth place, which they share with 3 other teams. Loser Aliaga dropped to the seventh position with five games lost. Mersin will face higher ranked Anadolu Efes (#3) in Istanbul in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.

There were no shocking results in the rest of the games of round 9: Antalya lost to Besiktas on the opponent's court 69-86. Erdemir unfortunately lost to Olin Edirne in a home game 82-91. Hacettepe recorded a loss to Tofas on the road 79-87.
The most impressive stats of the last round was 28 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists by Mehmet Yagmur of Olin Edirne.

TED Kolejliler - Anadolu Efes 86-85

Very important is a road loss of third ranked Anadolu Efes (7-2) against ninth ranked TED Kolejliler (4-5) on Monday night. Visiting Anadolu Efes was edged by TED Kolejliler in a tough game in Ankara 85-86. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Anadolu Efes. The hosts trailed by 7 points at the halftime before their 29-18 charge in the third quarter, which allowed them to win the game. Strangely Anadolu Efes outrebounded TED Kolejliler 44-28 including a 17-6 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. The best player for the winners was New Zealand guard Kirk Penney (196-80, college: Wisconsin, agency: Duran International) who scored 25 points and 5 assists. Serbian power forward Vanja Plisnic (207-80, agency: Beo Basket) chipped in 18 points and 6 rebounds. Four TED Kolejliler players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was American point guard Jordan Farmar (188-86, college: UCLA) who recorded 19 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists and international Kerem Gonlum (208-77) added 19 points and 8 rebounds respectively. Anadolu Efes' coach Oktay Mahmudi tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Besiktas - Antalya 86-69

Very expected game in Istanbul where 14th ranked Antalya (2-7) was defeated by seventh ranked Besiktas (5-4) 86-69 on Sunday. The hosts trailed by 6 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 10-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 86-69. Besiktas shot the lights out from three sinking 15 long-distance shots on high 57.7 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. Bosnian-Croatian forward Damir Markota (209-85) stepped up and scored 13 points and 6 assists for the winners and the former international power forward Cevher Ozer (206-83, agency: 1x1 Sports) chipped in 17 points. Five Besiktas players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was American forward Jermareo Davidson (208-84, college: Alabama) with 33 points (!!!) and 7 rebounds and the other American import guard Ron Lewis (193-84, college: Ohio St.) scored 11 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Defending champion moved-up to sixth place. Loser Antalya keeps the fourteenth position with seven games lost. Besiktas will face Aliaga (#8) on the road in the next round. Antalya will play against Karsiyaka (#4).

An interesting game took place in Aliaga where higher ranked Aliaga (4-5) was upset on its own court by thirteenth ranked Mersin (3-6) 82-73 on Sunday. Mersin made 17-of-22 free shots (77.3 percent) during the game. They also forced 19 Aliaga turnovers. Naturalized American forward Ali Karadeniz (203-80, college: Arizona) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 30 points and 12 rebounds for the winners and American guard J.P. Prince (201-87, college: Tennessee) chipped in 13 points and 8 rebounds. The best for the losing side was American center Torin Francis (210-83, college: Notre Dame) with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 17 rebounds (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line) and the former international forward Ersin Goerkem (195-77) scored 14 points and 7 rebounds. Bottom-ranked Gaziantep managed to get a second victory, breaking the series of four consecutive loses. This time newly promoted Gaziantep won against ninth-ranked Turk Telekom 81-69. The game was mostly controlled by Gaziantep. Turk Telekom was better in third quarter 25-21. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Gaziantep had a 32-17 advantage in offensive rebounds. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. It was a good game for American guard Isaiah Swann (188-85, college: Florida St.) who led his team to a victory with 22 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. His fellow American import power forward Joey Dorsey (206-83, college: Memphis, agency: FCM) contributed with a double-double by scoring 10 points, 15 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Croatian power forward Drago Pasalic (208-84) answered with 13 points and 8 rebounds and American point guard Dee Brown (185-84, college: Illinois, agency: Priority Sports) added 12 points and 6 assists in the effort for Turk Telekom. Five Gaziantep and four Turk Telekom players scored in double figures. Gaziantep (2-7) moved-up to fourteenth place, which they share with Antalya and Hacettepe. Turk Telekom at the other side dropped to the tenth position with six games lost. Gaziantep's next round opponent will be higher ranked Banvit BK (#5) in Balikesir and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.

There was a surprise result when fourteenth ranked Olin Edirne (3-6) defeated on the road higher ranked Erdemir (3-6) 91-82 on Saturday. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 22-19. But Erdemir won second period 24-22. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Point guard Mehmet Yagmur (188-87) stepped up and scored 28 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field) for the winners and Belarusian center Artsiom Parakhouski (210-87, college: Radford) chipped in 14 points and 7 rebounds. Five Olin Edirne players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was American guard Gerrod Henderson (192-78, college: Louisiana Tech) with 29 points (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line) and the other American import swingman Sean Marshall (198-85, college: Boston Coll.) scored 10 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists. Erdemir's coach Hakan Demir gave the chance to play for ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Olin Edirne moved-up to tenth place, which they share with 3 other teams including defeated Erdemir. Olin Edirne will face higher ranked TED Kolejliler (#7) in Ankara in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.

Hacettepe trailed by 20 points after 3 quarters before a 28-16 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 79-87 at the end of the game. Tofas made 17-of-20 free shots (85.0 percent) during the game. Tofas outrebounded Hacettepe 36-21 including 23 on the defensive glass. American-Ukrainian guard Steven Burtt (185-84, college: Iona) stepped up and scored 21 points and 7 assists for the winners and American power forward Joshua Heytvelt (210-86, college: Gonzaga) chipped in 15 points and 8 rebounds. Five Tofas players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was swingman Polat Kaya (197-86) with 15 points and Muhammed Baygul (191-92) scored 8 points and 7 assists. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Tofas moved-up to seventh place, which they share with TED Kolejliler and Aliaga. Hacettepe lost fifth consecutive game. They dropped to the fourteenth position with seven games lost. Tofas will face league's second-placed Galatasaray in Istanbul in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Hacettepe will play at home against the league's leader Fenerbahce Ulker (#1) where they are definitely not considered as a favorite in this game either.
