The most exciting game of round 16 in the TB2L took place in Ankara. This derby game ended with only three-point defeat on the road of 5th ranked Yesilgiresun (10-6) to third ranked Maliye Milli (13-3) 122-119 on Saturday evening. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Yesilgiresun. Maliye Milli forced 25 Yesilgiresun turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists. 37 personal fouls committed by Yesilgiresun helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. American guard Derek Williams (185-85, college: SMU, agency: Pro One Sports) fired 28 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners. The other American import guard Zach Graham (198-89, college: Mississippi) chipped in 16 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals. American center John Ofoegbu (206-84, college: Idaho St.) produced a double-double by scoring 22 points and 14 rebounds for lost side. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Maliye Milli have a solid three-game winning streak. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Selcuk Univ. and Usak. Newly promoted Yesilgiresun keeps the fifth place with six games lost. They share the position with 3 other teams. Maliye Milli is looking forward to face Vestel (#8) in Manisa in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Yesilgiresun will play at home against Akhisar Bld and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Konya. First ranked Selcuk Universitesi faced 4th ranked Darussafaka. Host Selcuk Universitesi (13-3) defeated guests from Istanbul (11-5) 84-79. Worth to mention a great performance of American Bill Clark (195-88, college: Duquesne) who helped to win the game recording 16 points and 8 rebounds. Jeremy Granger contributed with 18 points for the winners. Selcuk Universitesi's coach allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. Serbian center Aleksandar Petrovic (204-87) replied with 17 points and 5 rebounds for Darussafaka. Selcuk Universitesi maintains first position with 13-3 record, which they share with Usak and Maliye Milli. Darussafaka at the other side keeps the fourth place with five games lost. Selcuk Universitesi will play against Baskent Genclik (#15) in Ankara in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Darussafaka will play at home against Gelisim (#9) in Izmir and hopes to get back on the winning track.

We should mention about the upset which took place in Balikesir, where higher ranked Balikesir (7-9) lost at home to fifteenth ranked Baskent Genclik (6-10) 65-78. The game was dominated by American players. The winners were led by Aubrey Reese who scored that evening 28 points and 5 rebounds. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Baskent Genclik have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to thirteenth place, which they share with Pertevniyal and Istanbul B.B. Newly promoted Balikesir keeps the eleventh position with nine games lost. Baskent Genclik's next round opponent will be league's leader Selcuk Universitesi in Konya and they do not belong to the favorites in that game.

Rest of the games of round 16 were quite predictable and ended without any surprises. Here they are:
Pertevniyal was defeated by Akhisar Bld in a road game 73-68. Istanbulspor was beaten by Trabzonspor at home 62-76. Vestel won against Istanbul B.B. on the opponent's court 80-67. Pi Koleji was outscored by Bandirma Kir. in a home game 59-84. Final Genclik recorded a loss to Gelisim on the road 71-67.
The best stats of 16th round was 30 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists by Justin Knox of Vestel.


Usak - Izmir BSB 88-61

Third ranked Usak blasted bottom-ranked Izmir BSB (0-16) in Usak 88-61 on Sunday evening. Izmir BSB is still unable to win any game. The game without a history. Usak led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. Usak outrebounded Izmir BSB 47-26 including a 38-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists comparing to just 10 passes made by Izmir BSB's players. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Usak made 7 blocks. Worth to mention a great performance of American forward Eric Buckner (208-90, college: Georgia St., agency: David Lee services) who helped to win the game recording 15 points and 6 rebounds and center Mehmet Emre Boztepe (205-86) who added 9 points and 11 rebounds during the contest. However just five-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Pertevniyal was ahead by 4 points after three quarters before a 21-12 charge of Akhisar Bld, which allowed them to win the game. 25 personal fouls committed by Pertevniyal helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Very expected game when 14th ranked Istanbul B.B. (6-10) was defeated at home by eighth ranked Vestel (10-6) 80-67. The game was mostly controlled by Vestel. Istanbul B.B. was better in second period 18-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The winners were led by American forward Justin Knox (205-89, college: N.Carolina) who scored that evening 30 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists (on 13-of-17 shooting from the field) and guard Serhat Ugur (192-85) supported him with 13 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Knox is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Even 10 points and 9 rebounds by Metecan Birsen (205-95) did not help to save the game for Istanbul B.B.. American power forward Arthur Johnson (206-81, college: Missouri) added 13 points and 5 rebounds for lost side. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Vestel moved-up to fifth place, which they share with 3 other teams. Istanbul B.B. lost fourth consecutive game. They dropped to the thirteenth position with ten games lost. Vestel's next round opponent will be higher ranked Maliye Milli (#3) in Ankara and it may be quite challenging game. Istanbul B.B. will play on the road against Final Genclik (#10) in Bursa.

Maliye Milli - Yesilgiresun 122-119

The most exciting game of round 16 in the TB2L took place in Ankara. This derby game ended with only three-point defeat on the road of 5th ranked Yesilgiresun (10-6) to third ranked Maliye Milli (13-3) 122-119 on Saturday evening. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Yesilgiresun. Maliye Milli forced 25 Yesilgiresun turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists. 37 personal fouls committed by Yesilgiresun helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. American guard Derek Williams (185-85, college: SMU, agency: Pro One Sports) fired 28 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners. The other American import guard Zach Graham (198-89, college: Mississippi) chipped in 16 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals. American center John Ofoegbu (206-84, college: Idaho St.) produced a double-double by scoring 22 points and 14 rebounds and forward Ismail Cevik (206-81) added 16 points and 10 rebounds respectively for lost side. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Maliye Milli have a solid three-game winning streak. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Selcuk Univ. and Usak. Newly promoted Yesilgiresun keeps the fifth place with six games lost. They share the position with 3 other teams. Maliye Milli is looking forward to face Vestel (#8) in Manisa in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Rather predictable result in Ankara where fourteenth ranked Bandirma Kir. (7-9) outscored 17th ranked Pi Koleji (3-13) 84-59. It looked good early as Pi Koleji took an 2-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Bandirma Kir. had a 25-14 second period charge getting the lead and Pi Koleji was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 59-84. Bandirma Kir. dominated down low during the game scoring 44 of its points in the paint compared to Pi Koleji's 22. They outrebounded Pi Koleji 43-26 including 32 on the defensive glass. It was a great shooting night for Bandirma Kir. especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 53.3 percentage. 24 personal fouls committed by Pi Koleji helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The winners were led by Ahmet Cantitiz (193-92) who scored that evening 17 points and 8 rebounds and American power forward Raymond Sykes (206-86, college: Clemson, agency: Three Eye Sports) supported him with 19 points and 6 rebounds. Four Bandirma Kir. players scored in double figures. Even 12 points and 5 rebounds by Halit Serdar Gungor (-77) did not help to save the game for Pi Koleji. Guard Yusuf Berkcan Yananer (191-90, agency: EM-PA) added 11 points for lost side. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Bandirma Kir. moved-up to eleventh place, which they share with Balikesir. Pi Koleji lost eleventh consecutive game. They dropped to the sixteenth position with 13 games lost. Bandirma Kir.'s supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Balikesir Balikesir.

The hosts were ahead by 4 points but lost the second period ending it with a 4-point deficit before their 26-18 run, which allowed them to win the game. The winners were led by American guard Michael Porrini (187-89, college: Kent St.) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 18 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists and the other American import power forward Jermaine Dearman (202-80, college: S.Illinois) supported him with 16 points and 8 rebounds. Four Gelisim players scored in double figures. Even 9 points and 14 rebounds by American forward Marshall Moses (198-89, college: Oklahoma St.) did not help to save the game for Final Genclik. Forward Muratcan Esen (195-90) added 19 points for lost side. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. Gelisim moved-up to ninth place, which they share with defeated Final Genclik. Gelisim's next round opponent will be higher ranked Darussafaka (#4) in Istanbul and they do not belong to the favorites in that game.
