Naturalized American LaToya Sanders (191-PF-86) had an amazing evening in the last round for league's second-best Kayseri and that's her to receive a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 16. The 26-year old power forward had a double-double of 13 points and thirteen rebounds, while her team edged out Galatasaray (13-3) 72-68. The game was between two of the league's top four teams. Kayseri is placed at 2nd position in American TKBL. They are still close to the very top. Kayseri would have been even better if they kept winning the games like in the last round. They have a solid 13-3 record. It was one of impressive evenings for Sanders as usually she does not deliver so high stats. LaToya Sanders averages this season 11.9ppg and 8.3rpg.
The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was 31-year old Russian center Irina Osipova (196-C-81) of Istanbul Univ.. Osipova impressed basketball fans with a double-double of 18 points and 12 rebounds. Of course she lead Istanbul Univ. to another comfortable win 83-68 over the lower-ranked Edremit (#14, 1-15) being unquestionably team leader. This victory allowed Istanbul Univ. to move up to 6th position in the standings. Her team lost some distance to top teams. But 8-8 record is not bad and everything may still change. Osipova is a newcomer at Istanbul Univ. and it seems she did not have too much trouble to become one of team's leaders.
The third best performed player last round was American Chante Black (195-C-85) of Samsun (#12). Black scored 21 points and grabbed thirteen rebounds (!!!). Despite Black's great performance Samsun lost 72-73 to Besiktas (3-13). But her team cannot count on just a single player as she also needs help of the other teammates. Samsun can only dream about fighting for top spots in the league. They have rather bad season and 3-13 record places them close to the bottom of the standings. Too bad for Black she does not play for a better team. But maybe if she did, her season stats would not be that high. Black has individually a great season in Turkey. After 15 games, she made it on the list of the league's leaders in rebounds with 11.7rpg (4th best). She also has 1.5bpg and FGP: 51.9%.
Other top performing players last week: 4. Courtney Paris (191-C-87) of Botas - 17 points, 18 rebounds and 2 assists 5. Anna Vadja (191-F/C-84) of Samsun - 19 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists 6. Erlana Larkins (185-F-86) of Mersin - 11 points, 18 rebounds and 3 assists 7. Milka Bjelica (193-F-81) of Besiktas - 24 points, 12 rebounds and 2 assists 8. Shay Doron (175-SG-85) of Tarsus Bld - 27 points, 3 rebounds and 4 assists 9. Essence Carson (183-G-86) of Istanbul Univ. - 25 points and 6 rebounds 10. Cheryl Ford (191-F/C-81) of Canik Bld - 24 points and 13 rebounds
The Player of the week is chosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc. The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy. The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
