The most exciting game was a derby match between two local teams from Mersin: Mersin (#5) and Tarsus Bld (#4). Mersin (12-5) won against visiting Tarsus Bld (11-6) 71-65. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Tarsus Bld. Tarsus Bld was tied after three quarters but could not keep up in the last quarter eventually losing the game. American forward Erlana Larkins (185-86, college: N.Carolina) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 15 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists. Russian center Oksana Zakalyuzhnaya (198-77) contributed with 14 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Israeli Shay Doron (175-85, college: Maryland) answered with 22 points and 4 assists (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line) for Tarsus Bld. Mersin have an impressive series of eight victories in a row. They moved-up to fourth place. Tarsus Bld at the other side dropped to the fifth position with six games lost. Mersin are looking forward to face Ceyhan Bld (#6) in Adana in the next round. Tarsus Bld will play at home against Antakya in Hatay and is hoping to win this game.
Another exciting game was again a derby between two teams from Istanbul: Fenerbahce (#1) and Istanbul Universitesi (#6). Istanbul Universitesi was defeated at home 59-68 and even the advantage of their own court did not help. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Istanbul Universitesi. American Angel McCoughtry (187-86, college: Louisville) stepped up and scored 19 points for the winners and Cappie Pondexter chipped in 15 points and 5 assists. Fenerbahce's coach Roberto Iniguez allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Russian center Irina Osipova (196-81) responded with 12 points and 8 rebounds. Defending champion maintains first place with 16-1 record. Istanbul Universitesi at the other side dropped to the seventh position with nine games lost. They share it with Botas. Fenerbahce will play against TED Ankara (#9) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Istanbul Universitesi will play against the league's second-placed Galatasaray in Istanbul and hopes to get back on the winning track.
Very important is a road loss of third ranked Kayseri (13-4) against twelfth ranked Besiktas (4-13) on Sunday night. Visiting Kayseri was defeated by Besiktas in Istanbul 84-71. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Kayseri. Gulsah Akkaya nailed 20 points and 9 rebounds for the winning side. Asjha Jones came up with 22 points and 8 rebounds for Kayseri in the defeat. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Besiktas. They maintain twelfth place with 4-13 record. Loser Kayseri keeps the third position with four games lost. Besiktas will meet bottom-ranked Edremit (#14) in the next round. Kayseri will play against Botas (#7) in Adana and hope to secure a win.
The game between ninth ranked Botas (8-9) and 12th ranked Samsun (3-14) in Adana ended with biggest points difference. Botas outscored guests from Samsun 106-48. The best player for the winners was Courtney Paris who had a double-double by scoring 22 points and 17 rebounds (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field). Botas' coach felt very confident using 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Botas moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Istanbul Univ. Samsun lost their third game in a row. They dropped to the thirteenth position with 14 games lost. Botas' next round opponent will be higher ranked Kayseri (#3) on the road and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Samsun's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Samsun Canik Bld.

There were no big surprises in other games of round 17: TED Ankara beat Antakya on the road 76-65. Canik Bld lost to Ceyhan Bld on its own court 74-80. Bottom-ranked Edremit was outscored by Galatasaray in Istanbul 33-88.


Antakya - TED Ankara 65-76

We could consider it a predictable result in the game between close teams when tenth ranked TED Ankara (7-10) beat 9th ranked Antakya (7-10) in Hatay 76-65. The game was mostly controlled by TED Ankara. Antakya was better in second period 15-13. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Antakya 40-28 including a 36-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was American center Marcedes Marie Walker (191-86, college: Pittsburgh, agency: LBM Management) who had a double-double by scoring 19 points and 15 rebounds. Montenegrin swingman Ana Dabovic (183-89) chipped in 19 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Five TED Ankara players scored in double figures. American Jolene Anderson (175-86, college: Wisconsin) produced 16 points and center Naile Cirak (185-85) added 12 points respectively for the hosts. TED Ankara moved-up to ninth place, which they share with defeated Antakya. Antakya lost their fourth game in a row. TED Ankara's next round opponent will be league's leader Fenerbahce in Istanbul and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.

Galatasaray led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Edremit to just 2 points in fourth quarter and to 8 points in second half. Galatasaray held Edremit to an opponent 20.0 percent shooting from the field compared to 48.6 percent accuracy of the winners and made 17-of-22 charity shots (77.3 percent) during the game. The best player for the winners was American center Courtney Paris (191-87, college: Oklahoma) who had a double-double by scoring 22 points and 17 rebounds (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field). Her fellow American import forward Christi Thomas (191-82, college: Georgia) chipped in a double-double by scoring 18 points and 15 rebounds (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field). Four Botas players scored in double figures. Botas' coach felt very confident using 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Forward Selvin Turkmen (173-80) produced 15 points and forward Doga Comba (185-94) added 6 points and 10 rebounds respectively for the guests. Botas moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Istanbul Univ. Samsun lost their third game in a row. They dropped to the thirteenth position with 14 games lost. Botas' next round opponent will be higher ranked Kayseri (#3) on the road and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Samsun's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Samsun Canik Bld.
