TKB2L Round 17: Undefeated Cankaya loses their first game against Edirne - Feb 11, 2013

There will be only one (last) round of the Regular Season in TKB2L. There was no lack of interesting games this round. The round ended with defeat of the leader.

The most crucial game of the last round was the first loss of undefeated Cankaya (16-1) on the court of second ranked Edirne on Sunday night. Visitors were defeated by Edirne 62-57. It ended at the same time the 16-game winning streak of Cankaya. It may be a crucial game in the contest for the top position in Group C. The hosts trailed by 12 points after first quarter, but they rallied back and won the game by 5 points. Edirne dominated on the defensive end, holding Cankaya to just 7 points in third quarter. American power forward Susan Lester (188-88, college: Butler) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 13 points and 25 rebounds for the winners and guard Halime Uykan (165-89) chipped in 12 points. Edirne's coach used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. American power forward Tiffany Stansbury (191-83, college: N.Carolina St.) responded with a double-double by scoring 11 points and 19 rebounds. Edirne (15-2) have an impressive series of nine victories in a row. They maintain second place in Group C behind leader Cankaya. Cankaya at the other side still keeps top position with one game lost. Edirne are looking forward to face Tekkekoy (#6) in Samsun in the next round. Cankaya will play at home against Sakarya (#7) and is hoping to win this game.
Important game to mention about took place in Eskisehir. Seventh ranked Anadolu Univ. (4-11) saved a 1-point victory at home edging 5th ranked Asistanbul (8-8) 69-68 on Saturday evening. Forward Ceyda Isbirakmaz (-80) nailed a double-double by scoring 18 points, 10 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals for the winning side and Canan Karsavran accounted for 13 points and 4 assists. Center Arzu Ozyigit (190-72) came up with a double-double by scoring 23 points, 20 rebounds and 5 assists for Asistanbul in the defeat. Anadolu Univ. maintains seventh place in Group B with 4-11 record. Newly promoted Asistanbul keeps the fifth position with eight games lost. Anadolu Univ. will play against Nevsehir Uni. (#8) on the road in the next round. Asistanbul will have a break next round.

Newly promoted Orman keeps the second position with three games lost. They share it with Bursa BSB. Orduspor will meet at home Mersin Univ. (#6) in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Orman will play against Bursa BSB (#3) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

They maintain first place in Group A with 16-1 record. Newly promoted Yalova keeps the eighth position with 12 games lost. Altay Konak's next round opponent will be Nallihan (#3) in Ankara, which may be the game of the day. Yalova will play on the road against 55 Genclik (#6) in Samsun and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Bottom-ranked Harranspor (0-15) is still winless. This time they lost on the road their 15th consecutive match to sixth ranked Mersin Univ. (7-8) 69-39 on Friday evening. Rama Ndiaye stepped up with a double-double by scoring 17 points, 19 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. Mersin Univ.'s coach felt very confident using entire bench and allowed the starting five to rest. Mersin Univ. maintains sixth place in Group B with 7-8 record. Harranspor lost their fifteenth game in a row. Newly promoted team still closes the standings with 15 games lost. Mersin Univ. will face league's leader Orduspor on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Harranspor will play against Izmir BSB (#4) and hopes to get finally their first victory.

There were no shocking results in the rest of the games of round 17:
In Group A 55 Genclik lost to Burhaniye Bld on the opponent's court 75-80. Dizdar outscored Celtispor in a home game 136-19.
In Group B Nevsehir Uni. was rolled over Izmir BSB on the road 97-62.
In Group C Gure crushed Tekkekoy on its own court 98-57. Sirince beat Balcova in Hatay 85-76. Winless Nigde T.T. lost to Bigaspor at home 61-71.
The most impressive stats of the last round was 28 points, 14 rebounds and 6 assists by Cansu Meryem Altay of Burhaniye Bld.



Group A
Burhaniye Bld - 55 Genclik 80-75

Everything could happen in Balikesir at the game between two tied teams. Both sixth ranked Burhaniye Bld and 5th ranked 55 Genclik had identical 8-8 record. This time Burhaniye Bld used a home court advantage and beat the opponent from Samsun 80-75 on Saturday night. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 24-19. But 55 Genclik won second period 22-21. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. 55 Genclik was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. Cansu Meryem Altay (-95) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 28 points, 14 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners and Hande Celebi (-90) chipped in 23 points and 5 rebounds. They dropped to the sixth position with nine games lost. Burhaniye Bld will face higher ranked Dizdar (#4) in Istanbul in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. 55 Genclik will play at home against Yalova and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Dizdar led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Celtispor to just 2 points in first quarter and to 8 points in first half. Dizdar held Celtispor to an opponent 11.9 percent shooting from the field compared to 59.0 percent accuracy of the winners. Dizdar forced 34 Celtispor turnovers and outrebounded them 60-30 including a 40-20 advantage in defensive rebounds. No shocking result in a game when eighth ranked Bigaspor (5-12) won against on the road bottom-ranked Nigde Turk Telekom (0-17) 71-61 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Bigaspor. Nigde Turk Telekom was better in fourth quarter 15-14. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Muge Gozde Inan (-88) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 10 rebounds for the winners and Derya Erdogdu (-87) chipped in 10 points and 12 rebounds. Five Bigaspor players scored in double figures. Nevriye Ozbinar (-93) responded with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 10 rebounds and Cabuk Gulcan scored 18 points. Newly promoted Bigaspor maintains eighth place in Group C with 5-12 record. Nigde Turk Telekom lost their seventeenth game in a row. They still closes the standings with 17 games lost. Bigaspor will face higher ranked Sirince (#4) in Hatay in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Nigde Turk Telekom will play on the road against Harran Uni. (#9) in Sanliurfa and looks forward to get finally their first victory.
