TB2L Round 21: No surprise as #1 Selcuk Universitesi defeats Pertevniyal - Feb 13, 2013

There was no lack of interesting games this round. The round ended with derby games and favorites losing the games.

TB2L top team - Selcuk Universitesi (16-5) managed to deliver another win on Wednesday. This time they beat fifteenth ranked Pertevniyal (7-14) in Konya 77-66. The hosts trailed by 4 points at the halftime before their 47-32 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Selcuk Universitesi forced 19 Pertevniyal turnovers. American Bill Clark (195-88, college: Duquesne) stepped up with a triple-double by scoring 15 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists for the winners and forward Hadi Ozdemir (203-83) chipped in 19 points. Selcuk Universitesi's coach used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The best for the losing side was American forward Anthony Brown (203-86, college: Oklahoma St., agency: KMG Sports Management) with 19 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. Selcuk Universitesi have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain first place with 16-5 record, which they share with Usak. Pertevniyal lost third consecutive game. They keep the fifteenth position with 14 games lost. Selcuk Universitesi is looking forward to face Yesilgiresun (#4) in Giresun in the next round. Pertevniyal will play at home against Gelisim (#8) in Izmir and is hoping to prove to their supporters that they can break losing series.
The game in Balikesir was also worth to mention about. Fourth ranked Yesilgiresun (15-6) played at the court of 8th ranked Balikesir (11-10). Yesilgiresun managed to secure a 7-point victory 88-81. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Balikesir. American guard Alex Gordon (184-85, college: Vanderbilt) nailed 34 points (!!!) and 4 assists for the winning side and Oguz Erdogan accounted for 15 points. American point guard Robert Lowery (188-87, college: Dayton) came up with 25 points for Balikesir in the defeat. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Yesilgiresun have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They moved-up to third place, which they share with Maliye Milli. Balikesir at the other side, also newcomer in the league, dropped to the tenth position with ten games lost. Yesilgiresun will play against league's leader Selcuk Universitesi in Konya in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Balikesir will play on the road against Akhisar Bld (#5) and hopes to get back on the winning track.

The best player for the winners was Kerem Ozkan who scored 20 points and 7 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was Raymond Sykes who recorded 17 points and 8 rebounds. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Vestel moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Akhisar Bld. Loser Bandirma Kir. keeps the eleventh position with 11 games lost. They share it with Baskent Genclik. Vestel will meet Trabzonspor (#9) on the road in the next round. Bandirma Kir. will play against Final Genclik in Bursa and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
An interesting game took place in Ankara where higher ranked Akhisar Bld (13-8) was upset on the court of sixteenth ranked Pi Koleji (6-15) 87-79. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Akhisar Bld. It was a good game for Vincent Grier who led his team to a victory with 22 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals. Pi Koleji's coach Levent Lule allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Pi Koleji maintains sixteenth place with 6-15 record. Akhisar Bld at the other side keeps the fifth position with eight games lost. Pi Koleji's next round opponent will be league's second-placed Usak on the road and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Akhisar Bld will play against Balikesir.
17th ranked Istanbulspor (3-18) was outscored at home by second ranked Usak (16-5) with the biggest margin this round 73-41 on Wednesday night. Justin Carter stepped up and scored 11 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. Usak's coach felt very confident that he used 10 players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Usak keeps a position of league leader, which they share with Selcuk Univ. Istanbulspor lost their twelfth game in a row. They keep the seventeenth place with 18 games lost. Usak will face Pi Koleji (#16) in Ankara in the next round which should be another easy win for them. Istanbulspor will play at home against Maliye Milli in Ankara.

There were no shocking results in the rest of the games of round 21: Darussafaka lost to Maliye Milli on the opponent's court 82-97. Istanbul B.B. unfortunately lost to Trabzonspor in a home game 66-71. Baskent Genclik managed to beat Final Genclik on the road 67-59. Gelisim defeated Izmir BSB on its own court 96-78.
The most impressive stats of the last round was 29 points and 11 rebounds by Jermaine Dearman of Gelisim.


Vestel - Bandirma Kir. 65-63

A very close game took place in Manisa between Vestel and Bandirma Kir.. Sixth ranked Vestel (13-8) got a very close home victory over 11th ranked Bandirma Kir. (10-11). Usak held Istanbulspor to an opponent 22.8 percent shooting from the field compared to 39.1 percent accuracy of the winners.
