Mike James
It is not easy in European basketball to climb from 2nd divison in Italy to Euroleague Final Four but Mike James (185-PG-90, college: Lamar) did it. In 2014 summer, when he signed with Kolosso, i was told that Mike James could be a star one day. Now, after he became one of most important part of Laboral Kutxa Vitoria in Final Four journey, Mike James gave an exclusive interview Eurobasket.com Turkey

This is 4th year in professional basketball; you started with a small Croatian team, and then reached the top of European basketball. How have you keep improving?

I just work on my game everyday. I keep the mindset that I can always improve on something and just work hard. I used to watch Euroleague games and always think I could play in this league and when I got my chance I didn't let it slip away.

You are about to finish your second season in Laboral Kutxa Vitoria and the team achieved to make Final Four after 8 years. At the beginning of the season did you, i mean all team, expect this from yourselves?

At the beginning of the season we didn't really know what we could do or be but we just focused on the time at hand. We went game by game and every time we looked up throughout the year we were atop of Europe.

What is the main factor of this success so far?

I think our defense and our chemistry. We are a tight knit group and we all get along. I think that shows on the court. We are always communicating on the court and sharing the ball, which helps us win.

Personally, you are having a great season, your numbers got better compared to last season, your influence in the team is much more visible. How do you describe your position in the team?

I'm kind of the person who comes in to give a spark. I take some responsibility with the ball in my hands and just do what I can. I think my teammates and coaches just trust me to make good decisions and I try to do that.

You have a green light of shooting, creating for yourself and mates. Having a green light for any player in Eurolague level is very rare situation. How did coach Perasovic get the best out of you for the team?

I think he just trusts me to make decisions and when you have the trust and you get to go into the game and have confidence you play better that way.

In european basketball, teams have two good point guards to complete each other. But in Laboral Kutxa Vitoria, situation is quite different. You and Darius Adams have similar character and style. How do you evaluate this situation and how is your relationship with him?

I think we play similar but we are also different in a lot of ways as well but me and him are like brothers. So having someone like that in your team and we are successful it is nice.

Now, there is a Euroleague F4 in front of you. You will play against Fenerbahce Ulker Istanbul, they swept Real Madrid in quarter finals. How do you see your chance to reach final?

I think it's 50/50. We are both good teams and we both have had great seasons. We just have to go play our game and we will be fine.

Fenerbahce Ulker Istanbul is one of best defensive team in Euroleague this season. It is for sure coach Obradovic will prepare a defensive set for team and especially you and Adams. Who is going to win? Defense of Fenerbahce Ulker Istanbul or offensive power of Laboral Kutxa Vitoria?

Well I think we play pretty good defense ourselves so I don't think it's between those two factors but I think as well as we play our game we will beat Fenerbahce Ulker Istanbul and will get the outcome we want.

Whoever i interviewed or spoke with an American basketballer, they always called NBA as a dream. We know that last summer you were in Vegas with Phoenix. What is your career plan? Will you puh yourself to go NBA?

I don't know what it is at this point. This summer I will decide what I will do going forward but right now I just want to focus on finishing this season on a high note.

Tekin's double-double lands him TBL Player of the Week award - 4 days ago
24-year old center Ramazan Tekin (214-C-93) put on an extraordinary performance in the last round for Istanbulspor and receives a Eurobasket.com TBL Player of the Week award for round 3. He had a double-double of 22 points and 10 rebounds, while his team beat Bandirma Kir. (#15, 0-3), the league's bottom-ranked team 85-80.
