Turin will be turned into a Turkish and Spanish battleground tonight for the ULEB Cup Final Eight. At first Turkish Besiktas and Galatasaray open the campaign and then Spanish sides DKV Joventut and Pamesa Valencia face each other. Besiktas Cola Turka beat Crvena Zvezda in the second game in Turkey 81:69. Rick Apodaca (192-G-80, agency: World Sport Agency, college: Hofstra) scored 24 points, made 7 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners while Preston Shumpert also had 24 points but with 6 rebounds. Elmedin Kikanovic was the best in Zvezda finishing the game with 17 points and 5 rebounds. Galatasaray advanced to a ULEB Cup Final Eight despite an 88:79 loss to Gran Canaria. After a 25-point first-leg win, Robert Hite (188-G-84, college: Miami, FL) 's 20 points and 8 rebounds led four Galatasaray players. Carl English tallied 24 points in a losing effort. Spanish Pamesa Valencia reached the Final 8 last as the team overcame Croatian Zagreb tonight 93:70. A fascinating second half for the hosts had nothing to do with Zadar's hopes to advance. Ruben Douglas (193-G-79, college: N.Mexico) paced Pamesa with 29 points. Fred House netted 16, while Dejan Milojevic ended up with 14 points. Juby Johnson finished the game with 20 points in the losing cause. In an offensive opening quarter both teams exchanged the baskets, but Pamesa was glad to take a 14:7 lead. After three three-pointers the hosts held their seven, 28:21. An 11-0 run in the beginning of the second did not upset Zadar as they started to play better. Corey Brewer and Johnson got Zadar within 47:40. Both teams disappeared in the lockers with 47:43. In the third quarter it became clear that Zadar would not advance to the Final 8. After some points from Dejan Milojevic and then Ruben Douglas Pamesa had 59:46 lead. Another Ruben Douglas's triple made it 68:51. A 25:8 and 21:9 were too much for the Croatian team to stay in the game. Spanish squad benefited from it and won the encounter. DKV Joventut beat Khimki of Russia 69:54. Rudy Fernandez (197-G-85) led the winners with 18 points, including 4 three-pointers. Jan-Hendrick Jagla added 16 points, while Lubos Barton had 9 and 5 rebounds. Khimki got 13 points each from Clay Tucker and Mike Wilkinson.

He'll meet again Vincent Collet, who coached him 2 years ago in Le Mans. This year, he played in Israel, at Hapoel Holon, where he won the championship versus Maccabi Tel Aviv. Turk Telekom continues with signings after the end of the season. This time the team signed point guard Baris Ermis (194-G-85) on a two-year deal. Ermis came from Pinar Karsiyaka where he averaged 8.7 ppg, 3.1 rpg and 3.3 apg for 31 games in Turkish TBL. He was a member of Turk Telekom on season 06/07 when he was loaned from Efes Pilsen. He didn't have a lot of chance to play at that time in Turk Telekom as he averaged only 2. [read more]

'It is fantastic feeling when you return to the team who always has the highest targets and expectations. I would be glad to play with Tutku Acik and I hope we will be the best point guard duo in TBL as well as in ULEB Cup' - said Ermis.
Ermis was a member of Turkish National Team in 2004 and 2006. Two years ago he won National Cup while a year earlier his Efes captured the title in TBL.
Turk Telekom also announced that Bekir Yarangume (198-F-79) signed one-year contract extension. Yarangume joined Telekom in 2007 from Banvit. He played 11 games for his team this season in ULEB Cup averaging 3.4 ppg and 1.6 rpg. During his career he has played for Ulker, Besiktas and Kombasan. As Ermis, Yarangume also was a member of Turk Telekom in the past, before he rejoined the team in 2006. Actually he played there two seasons, from 2002 to 2004.

Dewar arrived to ASVEL from another Pro A team, Entente Orleans 45, where he spent last 3 years. Previous season Ben Dewar had 30 appearances for Orleans averaging 12.9 ppg, 4.3 rpg and 1.5 spg. Mostly owing to him Orleans avoided relegation with score 12-18 in regular season. [read more]

Actually it was his first year with Orleans 45 when the team made one more great success and it was the final of French National Cup. In the past he also used to play for Pro B team Quimper UJAP as well as for Danish team Sjaelland. He was one of the best scorers in Danish championship with 24.1 ppg. Ben Dewar graduated at Lake Superior State Unversity (NCAA2) where he at the senior season averaged 23.9 ppg.
