Katerina Dorogobuzova's 39 points make her top Ukrainian player abroad of the week - Apr 16, 2012

We bring you last week's top performances from Ukrainians who are playing abroad and who all have had prior experience of national team duties at youth or senior level.
#1. This week's number one is an international forward Katerina Dorogobuzova (187-90, agency: LBM Management), who plays in the Bulgarian NBL. She could not help Neftochimic (18-6) in their last game. Despite Dorogobuzova's very good performance Neftochimic was edged 87-86 on the road by the lower-ranked (#3) Montana 2003.
She was the top scorer with 39 points. Dorogobuzova also added 4 rebounds (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line) in 40 minutes on the court.
Dorogobuzova is ranked third on the list of the top scorers in the league and also on the list of best rebounders (first place).
She has individually a very good year with high stats. Dorogobuzova averages: 22.0ppg, 9.7rpg, 1.3spg, 2FGP: 57.0%(199-349), 3FGP: 48.6%(53-109) and FT: 83.3% in the 31 games she played so far.
She is currently a member of the Ukrainian senior national team.
#2. Second place goes to an international guard Olga Dubrovina (170-87, also represented by LBM Management) is a teammate of previously mentioned Katerina Dorogobuzova. But that was another game of her team in Bulgarian NBL which we would like to mention.
Dubrovina led Neftochimic to a victory over the closely-ranked Montana 2003 (15-9) 89-72.
She was MVP of the game. Dubrovina recorded a double-double by scoring 24 points and getting 14 rebounds. She also added 3 assists and 4 steals.
It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. Neftochimic 2010 Burgas (18-6) is placed second in the NBL.
It's Dubrovina's first season with the team.
Dubrovina is currently eighth on the league's list of top scorers and also on the list of best passers (fourth place).
This season she has very high stats. Dubrovina averages: 15.5ppg, 4.4rpg, 4.6apg, 2.6spg, 2FGP: 51.5%, 3FGP: 27.4% and FT: 77.4%.
She is in the roster of the Ukrainian senior national team.
#3. The Ukrainian player who performed third best last week abroad was an experienced international power forward Olena Zherzherunova (191-78, another player represented by LBM Management). Zherzherunova was the major contributor in a 1-point CSM Targoviste's victory against the closely-ranked Timisoara (21-7) 66-65 in the Romanian D1 on Thursday night.
She had a double-double by scoring 20 points and getting 12 rebounds. Zherzherunova also added 3 blocks in 30 minutes.
It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. CSM Targoviste (29-1) is placed first in the D1.
It was her team's 13th consecutive victory in a row.
Zherzherunova has relatively good stats this year: 11.9ppg, 7.4rpg, 1.7apg, 1.2bpg, 1.6spg, 2FGP: 52.7%, 3FGP: 38.9% and FT: 75.9% in the 25 games.
Ex-Kozachka-Zalk Zaporozhye player is also a member of the Ukrainian senior national team.
#4. Center Valeriya Berezhynska (193-86, agency: Josep and Nicolas, college: Rice), who plays in the French LFB was not able to help Charleville-Mezieres (23-8) in their last game on Wednesday. Despite her very good performance Charleville-Mezieres was defeated 71-67 on the opponent's court by the much lower-ranked Arras (#11).
Berezhynska was the top scorer with 17 points. She also added 8 rebounds.
The Regular Season already ended.
Berezhynska's overall stats this season are: 9.3ppg and 5.0rpg.
She used to play for the Ukrainian national team
back in 2010.
#5. International guard Inna Kochubei (174-82) contributed to an Odra Brzeg's victory against the closely-ranked Widzew (9-17) 71-65 in the Polish PLKK last Wednesday.
Kochubei recorded 12 points and had 4 steals in 33 minutes.
Odra Brzeg (5-21) is placed second from the bottom (#13) in the PLKK.
This year Kochubei has relatively solid stats: 13.7ppg, 4.0rpg, 3.2apg and 2.1spg in the 33 games.
She plays currently for the Ukrainian national team.
#6. Center Viktoria Mircheva (190-87) managed to help ZVVZ USK Praha to win in overtime against the fourth-ranked VS Praha (19-13) 82-74 in a derby game in the Czech Republic ZBL on Wednesday night.
Mircheva scored 5 points and grabbed 4 rebounds.
ZVVZ USK Praha (32-0) is placed first in Group A1.
So far her team won all games in the Semi-Finals.
Mircheva's overall stats this season are: 5.9ppg and 3.1rpg.
She is an international player who is currently on the senior Ukrainian National Team roster.
#7. Former international center Taisiia Bovykina (190-89, another player represented by LBM Management), who plays in the French LF2 (12th division) was not able to secure a victory for Dunkerque (10-14) in their last game. Despite Bovykina's good performance Dunkerque lost 45-51 on the opponent's court to the leading Limoges.
She had a double-double by scoring 10 points and getting 11 rebounds. Bovykina also added 2 blocks in 31 minutes.
There are only two games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be critical.
Bovykina has reliable stats this year: 10.6ppg, 5.4rpg, 1.6apg and 1.3spg in the 20 games.
She used to play for the Ukrainian national team
two years ago.
#8. Power forward Olesia Malashenko (189-91, another player represented by LBM Management) contributed to an easy victory against the closely-ranked Spartak St.Petersburg (8-9) 77-60 in the Russian PBL last Friday.
Malashenko recorded 6 points.
Vologda-Chevakata (10-8) is placed fifth in the PBL.
Malashenko's overall stats this season are: 7.8ppg and 3.0rpg.
She used to play for the Ukrainian national team
back in 2010.
#9. Former international power forward Katia Levitsky (190-85, agency: Data Plus Group, college: Villanova) contributed to a 1-point Elitzur Ramla's victory against the closely-ranked Ramat Hasharon (14-6) 60-59 in the Israeli D1 on Wednesday night.
Levitsky recorded only 4 points and grabbed 5 rebounds in 15 minutes.
It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. Elitzur Ramla (15-5) is placed second in the D1.
This year Levitsky's overall stats are: 7.5ppg, 4.4rpg and 1.9apg in the 21 games.
She used to play for the Ukrainian national team
two years ago.
#10. Guard Anna Sokolan (178-84) is a teammate of previously mentioned Katerina Dorogobuzova and both played together in the last Bulgarian NBL game.
Sokolan couldn't help Neftochimic (18-6) in their game against Montana 2003 (15-9).
She scored 5 points and grabbed 5 rebounds.
Neftochimic was edged 87-86 in Montana by the lower-ranked 2003 (#3).
Sokolan is one of the most experienced players in a team as it's her sixth year in Neftochimic's roster.
Sokolan's total stats this season are: 7.1ppg, 3.2rpg, 1.7apg and 1.2spg.
She is an international player who is currently on the senior Ukrainian National Team roster.
#11. International center Aleksandra Khomenchuk (200-89) contributed to an easy victory against the second-ranked Minsk-2006 crushing them 96-47 in a derby game in the Belarusian Premier League last Saturday.
Khomenchuk recorded 14 points and grabbed 8 rebounds in 24 minutes.
She is currently third on the list of top scorers and also on the list of best blockers (third place).
Khomenchuk has very reliable stats this year: 12.6ppg, 7.4rpg and 1.1apg in the 20 games.
Despite she played previously for the Russian national team, Khomenchuk is currently in the Ukrainian national team roster.
#12. International center Lyubov Alyoshkina (203-81), who plays in the Belarusian Premier League couldn't help Olimpia GrGAU (19-5) in their last game on Wednesday. Despite her good performance the first-placed Olimpia GrGAU was edged 64-61 on the opponent's court by the second-ranked Minsk-2006 in the Group A.
Alyoshkina recorded a double-double by scoring 10 points and getting 12 rebounds.
She is currently second on the list of best rebounders.
Alyoshkina's total stats this season are: 8.9ppg and 10.1rpg.
Despite she played previously for the Russian national team, Alyoshkina is currently in the Ukrainian national team roster.
#13. International forward Anna Pokoiova (188-87) is a teammate of previously mentioned Lyubov Alyoshkina. However that was another game of her team in Belarusian Premier League which brought her to that list.
Pokoiova was the main contributor in a Olimpia GrGAU's victory against the fourth-ranked Berezina-RCOR crushing them 86-46.
She was the best player in that game. Pokoiova recorded 12 points and grabbed 4 rebounds in 20 minutes.
This year her total stats are: 8.5ppg, 3.2rpg and 1.2spg in the 16 games.
Despite Pokoiova played previously for the Russian national team, she is currently in the Ukrainian national team roster.
#14. Former U20 international guard Victoria Shmatova (170-87) is a teammate of previously mentioned Lyubov Alyoshkina. She played also in the last Belarusian Premier League game facing Anna Pokoiova (above) in the other team.
Shmatova contributed to an easy victory against the fourth-ranked Berezina-RCOR crushing them 86-46.
She recorded 9 points and added 5 passes.
Shmatova averaged so far 10.3ppg, 2.9rpg, 1.9apg and 1.1spg.
Despite she played previously for the Russian national team, Shmatova is currently in the Ukrainian U20 national team roster.
#15. Former U20 international center Alina Iordan (190-88) is a teammate of previously mentioned Lyubov Alyoshkina. She played also in the last Belarusian Premier League game facing Victoria Shmatova (above) in the other team.
Iordan contributed to an easy victory against the fourth-ranked Berezina-RCOR crushing them 86-46.
She recorded 5 points and grabbed 5 rebounds in 15 minutes.
Iordan has averaged so far 4.2ppg and 3.8rpg in the 18 games.
She used to play for the Ukrainian U20 national team

Poland needs two overtimes to beat Ukraine in Day 1 of the international Tournament Zloty Sokol. The hosts of the tournament grabbed an 87:83 win over Ukraine in their opener.

Poland needs two overtimes to beat Ukraine in Day 1 of the international Tournament Zloty Sokol. The hosts of the tournament grabbed an 87:83 win over Ukraine in their opener. Both teams posted 20 points in the first period as the battle continued until the end. Poland managed to take 1-point lead at the halftime due to 13-12 rally in the second frame. Ukraine however needed a 26-21 surge in the third quarter for their lead, but Poland tied the game after 13-9 in the fourth quarter. In the first extra time both teams scored 7 points, while Poland grabbed the victory due to 13-9 in the second overtime. Agnieszka Skobel (179-F-89) top-scored for the winners with 19 points and Magdalena Leciejewska (191-C-86) netted 15. Magdalena Skorek (177-G-84, agency: Data Plus Group) delivered 14, while Agnieszka Majewska (195-C-82) had 11. Tomorrow Ukraine will take on Belarus, while Poland will play against Lithuania.

Olga Dubrovina (170-G-87, agency: LBM Management) and Anna Sokolan (178-G-84) finished the successful season abroad as their Neftochimic finished second in Bulgaria. Dunav 8806 triumphs at NBL Finals as they won the series against Neftochimic 3-1.
Dunav 8806 led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Neftochimic's 32 [read more]

Worth to mention a great performance of American forward Kristina Santiago who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 19 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists. The former international forward Radostina Dimitrova contributed with 19 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. Four Dunav 8806 players scored in double figures. Dunav 8806's coach Georgi Bozhkov felt very confident using 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Ashley Gayle replied with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 13 rebounds and Estonian forward Viive Kai Rebane added 14 points in the effort for Neftochimic. Olga Dubrovina averaged 16.3 points per game this season. Anna Sokolan showed 9.9 points per game.

Belinda Snell contributed with 20 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Tina Charles replied with 17 points and 9 rebounds and Australian point guard Erin Phillips added 21 points in the effort for Wisla Can-Pak. Four Wisla Can-Pak players scored in double figures. In 2012-2013 for CCC Polkowice (Poland-PLKK) Valeriya Berezhynska averaged 8.9ppg, 4.3rpg, FGP: 52.6%, 3PT: 12.5%, FT: 88.9% in EuroLeague. In Polish League her stats read 8.8 points per game.
