Higher League Round 9: Musson beats Kirovograd by one after a very close game - Nov 12, 2012

Fifth-ranked Kirovograd (3-5) used its home court advantage to challenge leader Musson (8-0) on Sunday. The visitors from Symferopil managed to secure only one-point victory 75-74. However their fans expected much easier game. The guests trailed by 19 points after three quarters before their 28-8 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Musson made 32-of-42 free shots (76.2 percent) during the game. They also forced 22 Kirovograd turnovers. 30 personal fouls committed by Kirovograd helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was a good game for forward Dimitri Shevchenko (197-85) who saved his team from a defeat with 16 points (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line). Guard Oleksei Zhuk (187-85) contributed with 12 points and 4 steals for the winners. Musson's coach used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Guard Ivan Gusarov (190-87) answered with 18 points and 9 rebounds for Kirovograd. Undefeated Musson have an impressive series of eight victories in a row. Newly promoted Musson maintains first place with 8-0 record. Kirovograd at the other side keeps the fifth position with five games lost. Musson are looking forward to face Tornado (#4) in the next round. Kirovograd will play against BK Kremen in Kremenchuk and is hoping to prove to their supporters that this time they can win.
Bottom-ranked Ternopil-TNEU is still unable to win any game. This time they could not use their home court advantage losing their sixth consecutive match to fourth ranked Tornado (4-2) 94-80. Guard Sergey Lapenko (196-85) stepped up and scored 20 points, 7 rebounds and 8 assists for the winners and Igor Meshcheryakov chipped in 17 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Tornado's coach allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. The best for the losing side was center Nikita Lange (202-92) with a double-double by scoring 32 points, 13 rebounds and 5 assists. Tornado maintains fourth place with 4-2 record. Ternopil-TNEU lost their sixth game in a row. They still closes the standings with six games lost. Tornado will play against league's leader Musson in Symferopil in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Ternopil-TNEU will play on the road against VolinBasket (#6) in Lutsk and hopes to get finally their first victory.

Aleksander Kolomiychuk nailed 18 points and 8 rebounds for the winning side. Bogdan Sosoi came up with 11 points and 6 assists for BK Kremen in the defeat. Koksokh-Stal moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Pulsar. BK Kremen lost their fourth game in a row. They still closes the standings with four games lost. Koksokh-Stal will meet higher ranked Avantazh-Politekhnik (#3) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. BK Kremen will play against Kirovograd (#5) and looks forward to get finally their first victory.
The game between leader Avantazh-Politekhnik (4-0) and 7th ranked BC-93 Pulsar (2-6) in Kharkov ended with biggest points difference. Avantazh-Politekhnik beat guests from Rovno 92-75. The best player for the winners was Anton Rochnyak who had a double-double by scoring 22 points, 16 rebounds and 4 assists. Avantazh-Politekhnik's coach Valentin Kulibaba allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Avantazh-Politekhnik. They maintain third place with 4-0 record having 4 victories less than leader Musson. BC-93 Pulsar at the other side keeps the seventh position with six games lost. Avantazh-Politekhnik's next round opponent will be Koksokh-Stal (#8) in Alchevsk which should be theoretically an easy game. BC-93 Pulsar will play against the league's second-placed Khartsyzsk.

In the last game of round 9 VolinBasket was beaten by Khartsyzsk on the road 91-83.



Ternopil - Tornado 80-94

Bottom-ranked Ternopil-TNEU is still unable to win any game. This time they could not use their home court advantage losing their sixth consecutive match to fourth ranked Tornado (4-2) 94-80. The game was mostly controlled by Tornado. Ternopil-TNEU was better in second period 19-18. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Tornado players were unselfish on offense dishing 28 assists. Guard Sergey Lapenko (196-85) stepped up and scored 20 points, 7 rebounds and 8 assists for the winners and forward Igor Meshcheryakov (204-86) chipped in 17 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. No shocking result in a game when second ranked Khartsyzsk (7-1) beat at home 6th ranked VolinBasket (2-2) 91-83. Khartsyzsk dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to VolinBasket's 32. Khartsyzsk forced 23 VolinBasket turnovers. 25 personal fouls committed by VolinBasket helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was forward Evgen Korovyakov (197-88, agency: New Trend Agency) who scored 21 points and 6 rebounds. Swingman Mikhailo Nasennik (200-83) chipped in 16 points. At the other side the best for losing team was point guard Yuri Zozulia (189-81) who recorded 13 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists and guard Bogdan Karebin (191-78) added 18 points respectively.
