Superleague round 23 caused change at the leadership position. Fourth defeat of league's leader Budivelnyk (11-4) against fifth ranked Hoverla (10-5) 81-80 was the most important game of the last round. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Budivelnyk. Budivelnyk was tied after three quarters but could not keep up in the last quarter eventually losing the game. American players dominated the game. Forward Ryan Pearson (198-90, college: George Mason) saved the victory by scoring 18 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Guard Eugene Lawrence (184-86, college: St.John's, agency: Two Points) contributed with 15 points and 8 assists for the winners. Forward Leo Lyons (206-87, college: Missouri, agency: Edge Sports) answered with 18 points for Budivelnyk. Budivelnyk's coach Ainars Bagatskis rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Hoverla have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They maintain fifth place with 10-5 record. Budivelnyk at the other side dropped to the second position with four games lost. They share it with Ferro-ZNTU. They were replaced at the leadership position by Khimik. Budivelnyk will play next round against strong Ferro-ZNTU trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Hoverla will try to continue on its current victory against twelfth ranked Dnipro in Dnepropetrovsk.
Mykolaiv (#10) forced the game against Kryvbasbasket (#9) into an overtime, but lost by seven points 70-77. American players dominated also this game. It was a great evening for power forward Callistus Eziukwu (208-85, college: Grand Valley St.) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 30 points and 15 rebounds (on 13-of-17 shooting from the field). James Florence helped adding 23 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists. Kryvbasbasket's coach Karlis Muiznieks allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. Guard Josh Mayo (182-87, college: Ill.-Chicago, agency: Stanislav Ryzhov) responded with 11 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists. Kryvbasbasket (7-8) moved-up to eighth place. Mykolaiv at the other side keeps the tenth position with ten games lost. Kryvbasbasket will play against BC Kyiv (#13) on the road in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Mykolaiv will play against BC Odessa and hopes to get back on the winning track.
Worth to mention about the upset in a game between Halychyna (9-6) and BC Kyiv (4-11), which took place in Lviv. Higher ranked Halychyna lost at home to thirteenth ranked BC Kyiv 73-79 on Sunday. It was an exceptional evening for Vyacheslav Bobrov who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 13 points and 10 rebounds. Darrel Mitchell came up with 25 points, 5 assists and 4 steals for Halychyna in the defeat. BC Kyiv moved-up to twelfth place, which they share with Dnipro. Loser Halychyna keeps the sixth position with six games lost. BC Kyiv will meet at home higher ranked Kryvbasbasket (#8) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Halychyna will play against DniproAzot in Dniprodzerzhynsk and hope to secure a win.
The game between fourth ranked Azovmash (10-4) and 11th ranked Dnipro (4-11) in Mariupol ended with biggest points difference. Azovmash outscored guests from Dnepropetrovsk 89-63. The best player for the winners was Tadija Dragicevic who scored 21 points and 6 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Azovmash maintains fourth place with 10-4 record. Dnipro at the other side dropped to the twelfth position with 11 games lost. Azovmash's next round opponent will be BC Donetsk (#7) at home. Dnipro will play against Hoverla (#5) in Frankivsk.



Kryvbasbasket - Mykolaiv 77-70 OT

Mykolaiv (#10) forced the game against Kryvbasbasket (#9) into an overtime, but lost by seven points 70-77. Mykolaiv was ahead by 4 points at the halftime before a 16-9 third quarter run of Kryvbasbasket. They tied the game at the end of regular time. Then they were better in overtime eventually winning that period 16-9. Kryvbasbasket dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Mykolaiv's 34. Mykolaiv was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. American players dominated also this game. It was a great evening for power forward Callistus Eziukwu (208-85, college: Grand Valley St.) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 30 points and 15 rebounds (on 13-of-17 shooting from the field).
