Derrick Low gets MVP of the Week award for Ukrainian Superleague - Dec 15, 2012

American Derrick Low (188-PG-86) put on an extraordinary performance in the last round for Dnipro and that's him to receive a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 28.
The 26-year old playmaker got a double-double of 19 points and twelve assists, while his team edged out BC Kyiv (#14, 4-16) in overtime 83-82. The game was not the highest importance and did not have significant influence on the top of the standings. Dnipro is placed at 13th position in Ukrainian Superleague. The season is in a full swing, so it's only a dream for the team to make it into top half of the standings. For contrary they may face relegation if the situation turns from bad to worse. Dnipro have already lost 14 games and recorded just five victories. In the team's last game Low had a remarkable 55.6% from 2-point range. It's his second year at Dnipro and it's hard to imagine this team without him. Washington State University graduate has very impressive stats this year. Low is in league's top in points (9th best: 15.9ppg) and assists (3rd best: 6.2apg).

The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was young American forward Jarrod Jones (205-F-90) of BC Kyiv. Jones impressed basketball fans with a double-double of 26 points and 11 rebounds. Bad luck as BC Kyiv was edged in overtime by slightly higher-ranked Dnipro (#13, 5-14) 83-82. The game was between two teams which are definitely not main contenders for the title. BC Kyiv is still at the dead bottom 14th position. 16 lost games are too many comparing to just four victories BC Kyiv managed to get this year. Jones is a newcomer at BC Kyiv and it seems he did not have too much trouble to become one of team's leaders.

The third best performed player last round was another Dnipro's star - Australian Daniel Kickert (208-C/F-83). Kickert scored 17 points and grabbed twelve rebounds (!!!). He was another key player of Dnipro, helping his team with a 83-82overtime win against slightly lower-ranked BC Kyiv (#14, 4-16). Dnipro can only dream about fighting for top spots in the league. They have rather bad season and 5-14 record places them close to the bottom of the standings. Too bad for Kickert he does not play for a better team. But maybe if he did, his season stats would not be that high. Kickert has a very solid season. In 17 games in Ukraine he scored 15.6ppg. He also has 5.2rpg and FGP: 53.5%.

Other top performing players last week:
4. Vernon Goodridge (206-F-84) of Khimik - 17 points and 11 rebounds
5. Aleksey Adediran (204-C-82) of Mykolaiv - 16 points and 7 rebounds
6. Kyndall Dykes (190-SG-87) of Hoverla - 18 points and 9 rebounds
7. Artur Drozdov (200-SF-80) of Budivelnyk - 17 points, 7 rebounds and 2 assists
8. Jarrod Jones (205-F-90) of BC Kyiv - 18 points and 10 rebounds
9. Dario Hunt (203-F-89) of BC Odessa - 15 points and 7 rebounds
10. Michael Lee (207-F-86) of Halychyna - 18 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists

The Player of the week is choosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3*(REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4*(2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3*(2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3*(3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
